Managed day-to-day front-end web development needs for Tempur-Pedic’s online presence, tempurpedic.com. Worked with copywriters and designers to implement online content for interactive product landing pages, ongoing and seasonal promotions, and online web forms. Collaborated with a large and diverse team to  design, develop and release an all new and innovated web presence in November 2013.

👋 Hi, my name is Kris. 

I am 4’5’’ tall, and was born with dwarfism.

Doctors told my parents I would never make it.

After I survived, doctors then told my mom to place me into an institution because I’d never walk, talk, or live a “normal” life.

As you are figuring out, it didn’t turn out that way.

“Challenge accepted” has been my mantra.

So has a faith in God and His ability to help me through anything.

That has led me to …

→ Recovering from 20+ surgeries all under the age of 20
→ Graduating high school in 2001
→ Going to college
→ Teaching myself how to design, code and media production
→ Starting multiple small businesses
→ Building a career in tech as a developer and now a product manager
→ Getting married
→ Having 4 kids, 2 with dwarfism

Maybe the doctors were right about one thing, after all.

My life is far from “normal”.

And I am 💯 percent here for it.

You might say I have quite the story.

When I became a speech writer for Dave Ramsey, I’d never actually written a speech for anyone else.

I'd been in the radio industry for over 15 years. I’d written hundreds of radio scripts, I'd given plenty of speeches myself, but when it came to writing a full-blown keynote for someone else, I’d never done it.

What I quickly learned is that writing a speech can feel completely and totally overwhelming.

Where do you even start? 🤯

No pressure.

Seven years later, I’ve written (and helped others write) hundreds of speeches. 

Regardless of how big the story, how long or short the time (don’t be fooled by a short speech, they can be harder because you have so little time!), or how much there is to cover, I rarely get overwhelmed.

That’s because I have a process.

The truth (and good news) is that when you break it down into a series of steps, the entire process feels manageable. Take it a step at a time and, before you know it, you’ll have a speech you can deliver.

This series of steps works regardless if you have an hour to prep, a month, or a year. You CAN write a great speech.

7 Ways to Master Off the Cuff Speaking

A personal low was the holiday season in which I was very single and my dad offered to pay for eHarmony. 😂 

I didn't take him up on the offer. 

So, as your friendly speech coach, here are 10 speeches NOT to give to anyone at any holiday gathering this season. 

This is meant to be humorous and to give you a laugh.

And just remember if you're on the receiving end of one of these speeches be grateful for the family you have, don’t dwell on the one you don’t have, and raise your glass to another year spent spinning around the sun (and if needed, spike the cider!).

Today was one of those where I got to lean back on the 15 years I spent in radio and podcasting. 

It was amazing working with Theresa Harper Bruno recording a couple episodes of her show. 

(Also fun to meet Lindsay Lawler and Dave Barnes and to see the Dark Horse recording studios!).

Today made me miss my first professional love of producing interviews deep in my soul.

Radio. Podcasts. Interviews. All will forever be my first professional love.

I pass “Cow Chow” on the way to my favorite coffee shop and it's some of the best marketing I’ve seen in awhile. Here’s why…

It’s fun to say. 

Go ahead. Say it out loud. Cow chow, cow chow, cow chow. 

Two words, and yet I know exactly what is being sold.

Even though I don’t know who is selling it, it feels totally on brand for the seller. I bet the seller of “cow chow” doesn’t have a slick website, an email marketing series to go along with this, or is spending ANY time working on his personal branding on Linkedin. 

I know who the buyer is. An owner of cows that needs some chow for them.

Clear call to action. Call if you need it. 

Honestly, I think it’s easy to overcomplicate my marketing as a small business owner. I think i need a bit more “cow chow” and a bit less polish.
