Providing bespoke reporting solutions for internal customers. The final products often take the form of Superset dashboards or Excel workbooks. Base toolset is Dremio, Superset, Hex and Jupyter notebooks (using Python).

Verisys Corporation

My team was responsible for exploring and implementing new tools to serve as the base for the next generation of Verisys’ credentialing products. Also performed ad hoc analysis as requested.

• Learned to use Dremio to connect databases and other data storage across platforms.
• Learned AWS basics in order to support existing processes, and help design/implement new ones. 
• Created standalone SageMaker Notebook instances with lifecycle configuration scripts. Migrated work to the SageMaker Studio environment, in anticipation of implementing ML models.
• Researched name matching algorithms. Prototyped code in Python, in Jupyter Notebooks, using Git for version tracking. Assembled Miro boards to share concepts with the team. Collaborated in basic sprints to complete related exploration/research tasks, and improve a full name and address matching process.
• Explored Apache Superset as a potential open source replacement for Power BI and Tableau, including installation, basic configuration, connecting to Dremio. Recreated some existing Power BI dashboards as a proof of concept.
• Analyzed legacy code written in R to identify and explain algorithms used in a provider matching process. Documented and summarized this process for multiple audiences of varying technical levels.
• Rewrote a manual reporting process, originally in R, to make it more turnkey. Collaborated across teams to ensure a related process could be adopted/integrated into another system.

Curriculum included Python, statistics, visualizations, narrative analytics, experimental design, machine learning concepts. Coursework primarily used Python, in Jupyter Notebook.

Each major section of the course concluded with a capstone project to reinforce concepts:
• Statistics/visualizations: analyzed Nice Ride’s (bike sharing) public data.
• Narrative Analytics/Experimental Design: analyzed Minneapolis Police Department public data.
• Supervised Learning: entered a Kaggle competition to detect online credit card fraud.
• Unsupervised Learning: scraped FIFA2019 data using Beautiful Soup, and used clustering techniques to choose a starting 11 for a fantasy soccer team.
• Completed a unit on NLP for a specialization topic, mostly using SpaCy, with some work with NLTK.
• Final Capstone: Used both supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, and geospatial data, to select candidate sites for wind farms.

Development and support of an app that tracks customer solicitation preferences, including the ETL batch processes that created data for scrubbing, and the scrubbing application itself. Use of EPSS was obligatory for marketing, surveys, and collections groups across all business lines within the company--it ensured state/federal Do Not Solicit laws were followed, as well as internal business rules regarding solicitations, surveys, collections, etc.
• Served in three main support roles:
A 24/7 on-call rotation for ETL batch support;
Primary technical contact during business hours, collaborating with the team’s user liaison;
Managing the schedule for uploading new external (state/federal) Do Not Contact lists.
• Researched questions and issues raised by users, business analysts, auditors.
• Often played multiple roles on incremental projects (technical designer, developer, tester).
• Collaborated with my team’s three business analysts to provide details for functional specs.
• Wrote technical designs for both large and small projects.
• Designed/developed rewrites of existing functions, to improve performance and make jobs more maintainable.
• Developed and maintained code, primarily in a Unix environment with SQL Server and Teradata database interaction. Basic SDLC practices are followed (designing, coding, testing, deployment).
• Primary languages/tools: Ab Initio, shell scripts, perl, SQL scripts, Syncsort, C#, Datastage; version control tools included Subversion, TFS, Ab Initio EME. Packaging/deployment tools included processes developed in-house, Harvest, Jenkins, Anthill, uDeploy. Job scheduling tools were Autosys and Cronacle.
• Satisfied change control requirements for documentation, testing, peer review, security review.
• Documented processes, both as part of larger projects, and for day-to-day operations.
• Trained new team members.
• Served as technical lead for a few larger migration projects--collaborated with and delegated tasks to contract developers.

Provided support and some development for the AIMS data warehouse for mortgage marketing teams.
• Support included responding to questions and research from our business sponsors and internal customers during business hours, and participating in my team’s 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Completed incremental projects to accommodate changes to upstream sources of data.
• Primary development languages/tools: Korn shell, DB2 SQL scripts; IBM Clear Case for version control. Job scheduling was handled by a scheduler developed in-house.
• Completed a data lineage project that gave developers and business analysts on subsequent projects more detailed information about the sources and transformation of data.
• Mentored a new hire.

Data enthusiast with a solid background in software engineering. My experience includes end-to-end development, maintenance, root cause analysis, and exceptional support. 

The mix of programming, statistics, and storytelling that typifies a data scientist's role is a recently discovered passion, after more than 20 years of satisfying a need for challenge and accomplishment through designing, writing, and maintaining applications related to consumer solicitations, marketing, and retail.

I am a voracious life-long learner and imaginative problem solver, and am excited about becoming a part of (and ideally shaping!) the future of analytics.

Outside of my professional life, I have a long-standing love for music across a wide variety of genres, live and recorded. Over the years I've learned to play a few instruments, and learned the basics of writing and recording.

I am also a cycling enthusiast--you will likely find me rolling down an exurban road or trail with a friend or two on weekends, and during the week, I prefer to commute by bike as weather and time permit. I've also used my passion for cycling to raise funds for a number of organizations over the years, most frequently the Minnesota MS-150 and the Red Ribbon Ride.
