HiETA Technologies is a product design, development and production company based in Bristol Aztec West Business Park, exploiting Additive Manufacturing to develop world-class thermal engineering technology. A start-up in 2018 which initialised product commercialisation after work completed in previous role, with c. 70 staff, now part of Parker Meggitt. 

Serve as the CFD authority first as Senior CFD Engineer, promoted to Principal Aerothermal
Engineer & Analysis Lead in 2021 to lead a team of 10 talented engineers. Responsible for all strategic decision making on product improvement and IP.

► Lead, develop and mentor the team, and serve as main graduate mentor, mentoring over 1000 graduates in total to date
► Introduced CFD workflows and best practice into the team and work environment
► Adapted tools and developed 5-6 intellectual properties for the company
► Developed highly efficient air and heat transfer surfaces and dense, compact lightweight heat exchange architectures for the aerospace industry, F1 cars, and high-end commercially sold cars (in process of being patented)

Analysis Lead & Principal Aerothermal Engineer

University of Exeter

An entirely industrial project - Additive Manufacture for Automotive Fuel-Cell Systems (AMAFS) - for Hieta Technologies, above. Also supervised two PhD students as well as three 3rd year and eight 4th year project students. Project results: developed ground-breaking, efficient technologies and was invited to work for the company.

► Developed and implemented a phase change model to capture condensation in a HX using OpenFOAM
► Phase Change Modelling using Volume of Fluid coupled with Level Set Method 
► Predicted heat exchanger performance accounting for phase-change
► Accurately analysed fuel-cell system phase change to predict system performance
► Resolved complex geometries with a fully structured hexahedral mesh (Pointwise) 
► Conducted particle transport simulations using Euler-Euler and Volume of Fluid (VOF) methodologies 
► Implemented the four-way coupled turbulence model
► Derivation of boundary layer models for multiphase flows
► Derivation and implementation of dispersed v2-f multiphase turbulence model using OpenFOAM
► Applied mesh morphing methodology to resolve VOF interfaces
► Applied the Least-Square Method to Volume of Fluid Method to capture interface in OpenFOAM

Title: Advanced modelling of turbulent multiphase flow.

► Investigation of multiphase turbulent flow using Two-Fluid model
► The effect of particles in turbulence modulation in gas-solid flows is mathematically analysed using classical methods and software packages - Fluent, OpenFoam and Matlab
► Moreover, UDF code is developed in order to investigate coal gasification in bubbling and circulating fluidized bed reactors
► Finally, dimpled wall design is applied in order to increase efficiency of the reactors

Passionate about developing technologies to reduce emissions, proven in improving performance for the aerospace and high-performance automotive industries - responsible for numerous high-value pipeline initiatives that will change the course of these sectors over the next 10 years.

Designs up-to 50% lighter, lower volume, highly efficient compact heat exchangers which have led to several IPs and patents as well as products being used by 5 F1 world championship winning cars to date. 

Multilingual and communicative with team spirit, currently serving as main graduate mentor.
