- I have bipolar disorder and occasionally post about it and its impact on my life. I’m quite vocal about mental wellbeing in general

- I’ve been teetotal for three years and I’m always happy to chat to people who are concerned about their drinking habits or considering cutting back

Since joining the industry as a Marketing Assistant 5 years ago, I have fallen in love with its fast paced, competitive nature. 

… so I stayed, and I am grateful to have had many great opportunities to work on very exciting projects.

At the start of 2023 I left it all to go and see some world. 

At the end of 2023 I began consulting, copywriting, content creation and social strategy planning for a number of recruitment businesses - while continuing to fulfil my dream of travelling! I found remote work drives me to do the best work…

Let’s call this what it is: a £120,000 fine for becoming a mother in the UK.

That’s not a lifetime figure… it’s the earnings a woman loses in just a decade after having children. 

 Over 100k lost simply for choosing to start a family. 

Meanwhile, men in the same households are statistically more likely to get promoted the moment they return from parental leave. 🤠🤠🤠

Why? Because our workplaces still run on outdated, biased assumptions about women’s roles, and the scale of financial punishment for motherhood goes mostly unchallenged.🤫

The real cost of motherhood isn’t just childcare, it’s lost pay, blocked promotions, career stagnation, and a system that expects women to “catch up” while applauding fathers for minimal participation…

If this makes you uncomfortable, it should.  

Is it time for UK organisations to radically rethink the way we value work, care, and equality, or are we happy letting the ‘motherhood penalty’ close more doors for half our workforce?🤝

If we want to talk about closing pay gaps, retaining female talent, and making workplaces truly inclusive, we have to start with the invisible economics of motherhood.
