As the Founder, I use a comprehensive approach to help transform existing conflict or reluctant agreement into healthy conflict that yields collaborative, multidisciplinary team members who create more innovative solutions that fit different perspectives and get people on the same page.

Academic Coaching For World Changers

Academic Coaching For World Changers helps counselors and social workers who are planning to sit for a licensing exam develop study strategies, understand complex content, and gain critical thinking skills needed to pass. 

As an Associate Coach (and, eventually, Lead Coach), I offered 1:1 and small group coaching. I also conducted live, interactive training for a larger group. All this was online.

I was acclaimed for finding ways to re-organize content and apply different learning styles and strategies to help clients overcome learning disabilities. This led to some very popular YouTube videos I created for that channel. 

I also briefly took on leadership responsibilities, such as training and evaluating coaches and making policy recommendations.

Emerald Empowerment LLC, currently Conflict Options LLC, offered leadership coaching, communication training, and facilitation among executives and management.

As its Founder, I presented at regional professional association conferences on topics such as collaborative negotiation, building rapport, and building agreement. I also provided leadership coaching, presented training, conducted employee communication style interviews, and recommended changes to improve communication, training, and feedback.

Outcomes included:
	Increased understanding and trust between exec's and mid-management
	Improved deliverable rate to comply with contracts
	Reduced mid-manager's workload by getting his team on the same page to get the work done

Morris Management Inc

Morris Management, Inc provides non-profit leadership consulting and financial management for homeowner and condominium associations. 

I built collaborative agreements among board members, homeowners, developers, vendors, professionals, and city officials in order to complete projects and resolve challenges. I also provided financial oversight, developed budgets, and enforced rules and collection agreements.

Additional responsibilities not associated with the position included mediation, ombuds services, coaching, sales, moderation/de-escalation, and survey design.

Outcomes achieved include:
	After 1 session, a manager I coached won the award for most improved in client satisfaction
	One client from another portfolio rescinded a termination notice 
	Receiving client acclaim and referrals after de-escalating high emotions during community mtgs

Lakeside-Milam Recovery Centers

Lakeside-Milam Recovery Centers provides both inpatient and outpatient support for youths, adolescents, and adults recovering from substance use disorders.

As an associate counselor at an inpatient recovery center for youths and adolescents, I supported a collaborative approach to their recovery among the community, staff, and family members. This included facilitating groups, conducting entrance interviews with the client and their family, communicating with parents, encouraging clients to stay in treatment, and responding to critical situations including fights and threats of self-injury or suicide.

It’s a catalyst for growth; teams get stronger, innovation speeds up, and scaling is accelerated.

It’s time to embrace conflict and leverage it as a tool. 

Companies may bring me in when an acute situation needs to be addressed, yesterday.

However, I’ve never found an acute conflict. 

Instead, it’s been smoldering beneath the surface for a while, fueled by many things…competing policies, overly tolerant environment, unhealthy culture, team chaos.

Not a rap list many organizations want to be associated with, but few are immune.

And if I just diffuse the acute situation, patch it up, and go on my merry way, the acute situation will die down...

Until nearby sparks cause it to start smoldering again, at which point it escalates into a 5 alarm fire, worse than the first. And, we would miss an opportunity to strengthen the team and its ability to scale. 

This is why my work just starts with addressing that one conflict.

It’s a symptom of dis-ease that can disable the company if not addressed.

To leverage conflict for growth instead, your team and I dig deep to transform the way team members relate and communicate with each other and with external stakeholders (donors, clients, and investors) in order to prevent and solve problems more effectively so you can propel the company to a new level - a level embracing and encouraging healthy conflict.

My process was inspired by a variety of incidents involving high-stakes conflict, including a life-threatening hostage situation where people around me froze and it was up to me to end it safely. 

In that moment, I realized how paralyzing challenging moments can be and I never want impact-focused companies to be paralyzed by conflict or taken off course from changing the world. 

My process came from my background as a lawyer, mediator, coach, ombudsperson, and legislative advocate - all of which had me facing and leveraging conflict daily.

It's called 1Decision (TM). Rather than the typical plan of trying to get back to normal, it helps people leverage healthy conflict to move forward in three steps:  
1. Perspective
2. Performance
3. Persistence
 
These steps dig into the root of conflict, create changes in the company to leverage conflict, and then create a resilient company culture viewing conflict as an opportunity instead of a debilitation.
