At RSS Bookkeeping and Accounts, I’m drawing on all my diverse experience from the past 30+ years working with sole traders through to large multinational corporates. 

Robust bookkeeping and accounting underpin every business, large or small.

In this role, I am developing close relationships with my clients, taking away the pain and worry of not understanding their numbers. 

It’s easy to get your bookkeeping and accounting into a mess, especially if you have a transaction-heavy business. Within a month or two, you can have a large backlog of bookkeeping entries to process, receipts to find and bank transactions to match. 

My job is to move my clients from overwhelm and chaos to having timely, accurate management data for informed decision making. If you don’t know what your true cash position is, how can you make an affordability decision. If your bookkeeping is riddled with errors, this can lead to bad choices and fines with HMRC

Often this work requires sensitive handling with new clients who might have been using in-house admin staff or perhaps a family member for bookkeeping duties, so I work on building the relationship first before getting the client onboard to make changes which avoid similar problems in the future.

An accountant is not just about working with the numbers; it’s also about looking after the people in the business too!

Approached by a former bookkeeping client in need of a few hours a week support with bookkeeping, management accounts and payroll I agreed, with permission from Pay2U Limited, to take a part time, employed role with them, as my hours were already being reduced by Pay2U Limited.

•	All aspects of bookkeeping for a racehorse training yard using Sage 50 Accounts
•	Preparing and submitting VAT returns for the training yard and 3 syndicated horses.
•	Payroll for 12 staff using Sage One Payroll.
•	Preparation of quarterly management accounts.

Accounts Secretary (Finance Manager)

Originally joining One Consulting Limited until it ceased trading in October 2017, when I moved with the management team to their newly created business (The Network Effect Limited), I was then TUPE’d over to Pay2U Limited when they were engaged to provide payroll and accountancy services as part of the business. An overview of my duties and responsibilities during this time is as follows: 

•	Using a range of software, including email, spreadsheets, and bookkeeping and payroll software, to ensure the efficient running of the office.
•	Developing, implementing and maintaining administrative systems, such as record management.
•	Managing all aspects of bookkeeping for the business.
•	Preparing management accounts and ad hoc financial reports for senior management.
•	Supporting accountants and auditors regarding statutory accounts and tax returns.
•	Processing payroll for contract workers using Solutio software.
•	Mentoring less experienced staff.
•	Responding to customer enquiries and complaints.
•	Checking that anti money laundering laws are being adhered to where applicable.
•	Processing of the Auto Enrolment pension contributions files and submission to the pension provider, ensuring compliance with auto enrolment pension requirements.
•	Handling queries from workers on their payments.
•	Reconciling the PAYE and NI contributions to be remitted to HMRC.
•	Issue of P45 to leavers.
•	Onboarding prospective new clients, explaining the services offered and guiding them through the take on process.

INTERNATIONAL RACECOURSE MANAGEMENT LIMITED

Reporting to the Group Finance Manager I was responsible for daily financial management of Thirsk Racecourse including:

•	All aspects of bookkeeping up to trial balance level, including sales and purchase ledgers using Sage 50 software.
•	Raising customer invoices, managing the credit control process and reconciling receipts.
•	Posting supplier invoices and managing the payment process ensuring suppliers are paid within their terms.
•	Processing payroll using Sage Payroll software including both full time staff and occasional workers. 
•	Ensuring RTI reporting and NEST Pensions Data is submitted in accordance with the relevant deadlines.
•	Assessing the level of cash float needed by each entrance at the racecourse, ordering the cash for the floats in advance, and preparing the floats on the day of racing.
•	Reviewing the returns from the cash centre after the end of day including investigating any cash differences.
•	Preparation of the quarterly VAT return.
•	Preparation of various financial analysis requested by the Group Finance Officer in support of this role.
•	Liaising with the auditors to answer questions and provide supporting documents requested.

Accounts Manager  - Thirsk Racecourse

After returning to the UK in January 2010 I drew upon my extensive experience in administration, bookkeeping and preparation of management accounts to provide bookkeeping services to a number of local small and micro businesses including a racehorse trainer, an engineering company and a boutique hotel and restaurant business 

An overview of the duties and responsibilities held during this time is as follows (dates and further details can be provided if required):

•	All aspects of bookkeeping up to trial balance level, including sales and purchase ledgers using Sage and QuickBooks software
•	Posting supplier invoices and managing the payment process.
•	Managing the credit control process and reconciling receipts.
•	Bank reconciliations.
•	Processing payroll using Sage Payroll software including horse racing industry payroll governed by accordance with the National Trainers Federation guidelines.  
•	Ensuring that the RTI reporting and NEST Pensions Data is submitted in accordance with the relevant deadlines.
•	Production of monthly management accounts giving business owners accurate & timely information on which to base business decisions and monitor performance.
•	Preparation of VAT returns 
•	Maintaining all personnel files including the preparation of contracts of employment and maintaining staff registers 
•	Providing absence cover for the Race Secretary at the training yard, a specialist role which includes the entering of horses in the races selected by the trainer, booking jockeys and liaising with owners, racecourses and transporters.
•	Implemented programs of monthly management accounts.
•	Implemented cash flow planning tools to help seasonal businesses meet commitments during their quiet times.
•	Worked with the directors to help them prepare budgets for the first time and demonstrated the value of monitoring variance against budget as a financial management tool.

Freelance Finance Manager

Prior to returning to the UK in January 2010 I was based in the Isle of Man and held a number of accountancy and trust administration roles for companies including;

During this time my duties included;

•	Preparation of procedures manuals.
•	Identifying areas where procedures needed improving and controls introducing.
•	Handling bookkeeping, accounts preparation, VAT Administration and payroll services for a portfolio of around 40 clients ranging from sole traders to medium size limited companies including an advocates practice, a hotel and a recruitment agency.
•	Acting as Company Secretary ensuring compliance with all company secretarial requirements.
•	Preparing monthly client profitability reports for department managers.
•	Performing extensive statistical analysis to establish trade patterns allowing the accurate targeting or advertising and promotions, thus ensuring the maximum returns for investment in these areas.
•	Handling the day to day administration of a portfolio of around 90 trusts and companies, many in complex tax planning structures and covering areas as diverse as property and investment holding, stud farms and mining concessions.
•	Building up excellent working relations with my clients including some very high net worth individuals.

I’m Fina, an AAT Level 4 qualified bookkeeper, currently supporting small and medium sized business, particularly in the leisure and hospitality sector with all their finance needs. 

From microbusiness to corporate, I’ll provide robust bookkeeping and management accounting to help your clients achieve your goals.

My key strengths lie in a deep technical understanding of bookkeeping, and management reporting with an interest in cyber security to help diverse businesses meet their targets and safeguard their business assets.

Soft skills are often overlooked in finance roles but I’ve focused on developing strong negotiating and influencing behaviours enabling communication at senior and board levels.
