But I call it what it is — the truth.

Building a high-performing sales team isn’t about equality of roles.

It’s about alignment with your ICP.

You need variety across your sales team.

Different backgrounds, personalities, communication styles.

Because the cold truth is this:
👉 Many deals are lost simply because the prospect doesn’t like the rep.
👉 They don’t relate.
👉 They don’t trust them.

People buy from people they know, like, and trust. PERIOD!

At Ambitious Labs, our SDRs were trained to match prospects with the right closer — the one whose tone, background, or energy aligned best with that customer.

Some of our “almost lost” deals were won just by swapping the rep.

How we scaled to $250k/month with a team of 100% commission only sales reps...

We didn't pay our team a single $1 in base salary.

And we managed to retain some of our best reps for 2+ years.

Here’s the playbook we used 👇

1️⃣ We pay for the calls AND set them on the calendar. 
If you’re not generating demand, you’ll never attract killers.
Your job as the founder is to make the calendar full.
We ran ads to a book a call funnel. 

2️⃣ Hire the right mix of setters and closers.
- Setters (SDRs) take discovery calls, call opt ins, and set qualified leads for a closer. 
- Closers pitch the product and collect cash.

Both roles are clear. No confusion, no overlap. One person does one job VERY well. 

3️⃣ Align incentives.
- We paid $100 to get a qualified discovery call from ads
60% showed up → 70% set a closer call → 60% of those showed up.
✅ Cost per closer call: ~$400.

We closed 35% of those deals through better training, objection handling, and data-driven roleplays.

That's about a $1200 CAC..

Our job - make 3x that on the frontend.. that's a 3:1 ROAS 

4️⃣ Pay only for results.

We paid 10% commission on cash collected.
Our reps made between $4,500 and $10,500/month depending on performance.
