Starting a marketing agency whilst at university changed my life forever.

2023 I started a marketing agency LABS Media

- I had no clue what I was doing
- Wasted a tonne of time

2024 I got my act together.

 1. sleep 8hrs
 2. work alone
 3. stay hydrated
 4. keep a 'to-do' list
 5. avoid sugary foods
 6. turn off your notifications
 7. use earplugs to help focus
 8. make time for the real work
 9. put your phone in another room
10. say 'no' more than you say 'yes'
11. plan your next day the night before
12. use noise cancelling headphones to help focus

Do you have to do these to get stuff done?
↳ No.

Does doing them make it easier to get stuff done?
↳ Yes.

Helping financial advisers book 3-5 qualified appointments a week using my ‘LinkedIn LeadGen Funnel’ | Founder @ LeadGenFS

My 1st week on LinkedIn:
No likes. No comments. 1 lead (fluke).

My 2nd week on LinkedIn:
Nothing. Pretty much radio silence.

My 3rd week on LinkedIn:
Couple of likes from family. DM from a recruiter.

My 4th week on LinkedIn:
More likes from friends. 2-3 comments. 0 DMs.

The first few weeks of posting took some thick skin!

But then after that?

Week 5: My first few inbound leads.
Week 6: My first paying client.

Sometimes when you start on LinkedIn, you won’t get any leads from your content.

But that’s a good thing.

It means you’re getting closer to the posts that will!

Last April I was stuck growing my business

- I had no clue how to get past 3 clients a month
- I was incredibly low on confidence
- I'd do 'busy work' to feel 'productive'

To get to where I wanted felt impossible.

I knew I had more in me.

- But to get in front of more clients
- Start marketing every single day
- Felt like moving a mountain.

Until I saw a LinkedIn post by Alex Hormozi.

All it said was:

"It just takes work. Loads and loads of work. Every time I try to dress it up or cut a corner I get brutally reminded: The work just needs doing."

And that was it. It just changed something in me.

The next day I wrote this plan on what to do:

1. Block out the first 2 hours of my day for marketing
2. Write one LinkedIn post 
3. Connect with 20 ideal clients
4. Start 10 conversations in the DMs
5. Follow-up with everybody at least twice

So I did it. Everyday for the whole month of April.

30 days straight. No breaks.

What happened?

- I closed TEN clients
- I became fully booked
- I had my biggest month ever

All because I saw ONE LinkedIn post from Alex Hormozi that sparked something in me.

My big takeaway?

Just do the real work.

- It isn't the most interesting 
- It isn't the most fun
- It isn't the easiest

But it's ALWAYS the most productive.

And usually what stands between you and your goals.

The advice in that post was exactly what I needed.

I'm a 22yr old with an online marketing business.

But I have ZERO social media on phone.

Here's why I removed socials form my life:

Before I deleted social media I was hooked

I found myself:

- Feeling like I had no time
- Not being present with friends & fam
- Always rushing to respond to messages

I'd spent 4hrs+ a day on my phone.

Mostly on LinkedIn, Youtube & instagram.

But when I actually looked at what I used them for...

...None of it was a productive use of my time.

So I removed every social media app:

- Deleted LinkedIn
- Deleted Youtube & Instagram
- Even deleted my emails

Now my phone doesn't control my time.

Plus I've got an extra 3hrs to get stuff done.

- I use LinkedIn only at work to grow my biz
- I no longer get distracted every 2 mins
- I'm actually present in conversations

Best decision I ever made.

Just have to rip off the plaster and do it!

How to pick a niche on LinkedIn as a financial adviser

(after helping advisers in 30 different niches):

Everyone and their dog screams 'pick a niche' in FS.

- You can laser target your ideal client
- Quickly build trust with an audience
- Stand out by talking to a smaller crowd

But while everyone is telling you to pick a niche
No one shows you how to pick a good one.

So after 2 years posting on LinkedIn...
And working with advisers in 30 different niches

Here's what I'd ask to find the right niche on LinkedIn:

1. What groups of people have you helped before?
2. Have you got those people good results?
3. Did they make a good advice client?
4. Could they afford what you're worth?
5. Can you target them on LinkedIn?

The key is picking a niche you understand.

Because then:

→ You know their problems
→ You know how to solve them
→ You have proof you can solve them
→ And you know where to target them 

Everything you need to:

1) Find clients on LinkedIn
2) Make content that converts

All from a few coaching calls and the right plan in place.

That's the difference between winning & losing LinkedIn

I've analysed 100s of advisers LinkedIn posts.

Here's why some get 1 like and others get 100s:

The posts that get 1 like (bad content):

1. Focuses on advisers interests 
2. Gets complex & technical
3. Avoids being personal
4. Tries to be perfect
5. Has weak hooks
6. Lacks structure
7. Is inconsistent
8. Lacks proof

The posts that get 100 likes (good content):

1. Focuses on client interests
2. Stays simple & clear
3. Feels personal
4. Embraces imperfection
5. Has strong hooks
6. Follows a structure
7. Is consistent
8. Shows client results

If you want 1 like, keep doing the bad stuff.

If you want 100s, start doing the good stuff.

That's it really 🤷‍♂️

The best financial advisers I've worked with?

They're not just good at giving advice.

They:

→ Are transparent
→ Communicate clearly
→ Manage their time well
→ Keep learning and improving
→ Care deeply about their clients

And if I’m being honest, when I work with advisers, those things can matter more to clients than the financial advice itself.

Because giving good advice is great, but trust and dedication are what really make an adviser worth working with.

- Label it 'real work'
- Sit at your desk 5 minutes before
- Put your phone in another room
- Turn off all other notifications
- Do the 'real work' that moves the needle
- Carry on with the rest of your day

You show up on time for your clients every single day.

Why not yourself?

I got chatting to a financial adviser the other week

He books 5 appointments per week on LinkedIn

Do you know how he spends most his time?

- Not going to networking events
- Not having long client lunches
- Not stuck on the M25

Prospecting on LinkedIn:

- Connecting with Ideal clients
- Writing content for them
- Sending DMs

He spends about 60 minutes per day on LinkedIn.

That's 1 appointment per hour.

Which is a way better ROI on his time then:

- Spending 4 hours mingling at networking events
- Chatting over a deconstructed sandwich
- Staring at a line of taillights

Just to 'hope' he gets a client.

The work may be harder.

But it he has way more leverage.

That's why I guess he spends his time on LinkedIn 🤷‍♂️

When I find business tough and feel like quitting

I remind myself of this:

Starting a business is hard.
↳ This is just what hard work feels like.

Strangely calms me down.
