A little re-introduction, in case you’re new here (or we’ve just never properly said hello).

I’m Katie. I’m a marketing strategist, but not the shouty, hustle-at-all-costs kind.

I help coaches and consultants who are great at what they do, have proper experience under their belt, and still find marketing harder than it feels like it should be. Usually, because they’re trying to squeeze it in around client work, life admin, and everything else.

A few things you might not know about me:

– I love a plan. A calm one. Preferably written down.
– Most of my best ideas arrive on walks (or in the shower, or whilst driving!), usually when I’m not trying to think about work.
– I enjoy marketing strategy far more than marketing noise (and I have very little patience for '£20k a month with just this one secret hack' nonsense.
– I’m always thinking about how to make things simpler, not bigger and moredifficult.
– And I firmly believe marketing should support your business - not feel like another job on top of the one you already have.

That's a bump to reality! 

First day back in my clients office today. Looking forward to catching up, but that commute this time of year? 

So grateful for flexible working! As I have the rest of the week solo parenting and supporting our 16 year old through mock GCSE's, so I'll be working from home.

No new years resolutions for me this year…

The first full week of January feels hard, after being cocooned in mince pies, Love Actually and endless cosy evenings in front of the fire.

Who needs to pile on New Year's resolutions on top? I’ll be happy to get my head down and do more of what I did in 2025 quite frankly.

And when it comes to work, I do have a plan of action, because I work better under deadlines.

Are you coming into January with a plan of action?
Or giving yourself a bit of time to ease in?

Either is OK, but if showing up again, finding new clients and generally putting yourself out there is filling you with dread, I’m here to let you know it’s OK.

January’s a tough time, and 2025 was a tough year for many, so it might be hard to know where to focus your energy and time to get the best results.

It’s very normal to feel like that, to feel a little lost with your marketing in the new year, especially when it comes to LinkedIn, which is an unpredictable beast at the best of times.

I’m also here to let you know it’s definitely not you; it’s simply a lack of foundations and systems that allow you to really focus your marketing on the areas that count.

LinkedIn's punishing me for taking a break over Christmas...😫

Post impressions are down, everything's dropped off a cliff....

But I've been here before. 

I saw a lot of people posting all through Christmas, good for them - I can't do it, but I know it makes January all the more painful after a long break.

And start getting clear on what they actually want to be known for.

Not just their services, but their point of view, the problems they solve best, and the conversations they want to lead. Once that’s clear, content decisions get much easier,  because everything has a filter.

2️⃣ They make one clear decision and stop constantly revisiting it.

That might be who they’re speaking to, how they position their offer, or the main message they want to reinforce. Instead of tweaking every few weeks or chasing new ideas, they give their marketing time to land and do its job.

3️⃣ They stop waiting to feel ready before showing up.

They don’t suddenly become more confident or inspired; they build a simple, repeatable rhythm that keeps them visible even when client work is full-on. Consistency comes from structure, not mood.

None of this is about clever tactics or posting tricks.

It’s about making a few grounded decisions and committing to them long enough for momentum to build.

I’ve realised I’m the anti-version of most marketing advice....

I’m anti-hustle.
Anti bro-sales.
Anti-overwhelm.
Anti-chasing viral trends that disappear as quickly as they arrive.
And very anti doing things in your business that make you uncomfortable, "because that’s what works”.

I don’t believe marketing should feel like a performance, a personality transplant, or a full-time job on top of the one you already have.

I’m much more interested in:

✔️ marketing that fits around real client delivery
✔️ decisions you don’t have to revisit every week
✔️ systems that still work when energy is low
✔️ and visibility that feels intentional, not performative

Tell me, what are you anti at the moment?

There was a real turning point for me when I realised something uncomfortable: I was spending hours on marketing, but not actually moving anything forward.

My posts were getting attention, but not action. I had bursts of visibility, but no reliable pipeline. And everything felt like it was requiring far more effort than it should have.

That was when I stopped trying to “do more” and started thinking differently about how marketing needed to fit into my life and business. Instead of chasing daily motivation, I focused on building a rhythm I could actually stick to (even on my unmotivated days!) - something steady, repeatable, and realistic alongside client work.

I wanted a way of marketing that didn’t rely on me feeling inspired, that gave me energy rather than drained it, and that kept working even in the weeks when my head was elsewhere. Once I had that system in place, everything started to feel calmer and more intentional.

That’s the same system I now teach inside my programme — and for the first time, I’m sharing it live.

You’re not flaky, lazy, or “bad at marketing”, even if it sometimes feels that way.

What’s usually happening is much more practical than personal. Your marketing is relying on motivation instead of structure. So when client work ramps up, life gets busy, or your headspace disappears, marketing is the first thing to fall away.

Then the pipeline slows.

Urgency kicks in.

And you push hard to get visible again — until the next busy spell.

I see this pattern constantly with smart, experienced coaches and consultants. Not because they don’t care about their marketing, but because they’re trying to run it on spare energy rather than a system that actually supports them.

It often shows up as reactive bursts of visibility, effort without a clear direction, and a heavy reliance on referrals - even when you know that isn’t sustainable in the long-term.

The issue isn’t that you need to post more.

Without a clear structure underneath, every post feels high-stakes.

That came up in the questions after 'From Reactive to Reliable' (the live masterclass I ran on Friday).

Things like:

“Why do my clients never seem to engage on LinkedIn?”
“Should I even be doing sales posts when they get so little traction?”
“Would having a structure help me stop worrying so much about how my content is received, because there’s a bigger plan behind it?”

What struck me wasn’t a lack of experience or confidence.

It was how much pressure people were putting on individual posts to work.

When there’s no bigger plan, it’s easy to read too much into engagement (or the lack of it), second-guess yourself, and quietly lose confidence - even when you’re good at what you do.

Once we talked about structure, having some priorities, a rhythm, and a way of deciding what actually matters, the anxiety dropped immediately.

We didn't fix the problem, as that takes time and effort, but we named the problem, and I shared the solution.

That’s exactly why 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺 exists.

Something you might not know about me...


Even though I’ve spent years working in marketing, marketing my own business didn’t come naturally at all.

Helping clients is one thing. You’re close enough to see what matters, what to prioritise, what to ignore. But not too close to lose perspective.

Doing it for yourself is different. You’re in it. Emotionally attached. Overthinking every decision.

𝗜 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺.

I built it by needing things to make sense.

I’m naturally someone who wants clarity before action, a plan before pressure, and systems that support me when life gets busy.

For a long time, I assumed that meant I lacked confidence. Or drive. Or whatever trait people like to credit success to.

What I eventually realised was simpler than that:

I just didn’t want a model that relied on constant output, hype, or being ‘on’ all the time.

Once I stopped trying to force myself into that way of working, everything changed.

That’s why the work I do now always starts with structure.

Not because structure is rigid, but because it’s what creates freedom.

When you have a plan and structure in place, decisions can feel lighter, executing feels do-able and marketing becomes something you actually start to enjoy.

One of the hardest parts of relying on referrals is that marketing never really feels urgent… until suddenly it is.

I’ve been there myself. You’re busy delivering for clients, which is non-negotiable. The work is good, you’re in demand, and marketing quietly slips into the background because everything feels fine.

Then a client contract comes to an end. Or a project wraps up. And all at once you realise how exposed you are.

You haven’t been talking about the work you’re doing. You’ve dropped off the radar a bit. And there’s no easy, reliable system for replacing that client without going into panic mode. You start wondering how many opportunities you might have missed along the way.

So you react. A short burst on LinkedIn. A half-formed plan. A promise to yourself to “come back to this properly”. But, of course, you don't.

Nothing is broken enough to force a real decision. And nothing feels settled enough to relax either.

What people don’t talk about enough is the mental load this creates. Marketing sits permanently in the background of your mind. You’re always half-thinking about it, half-worrying about it, but never quite trusting it to do its job. And that in-between state can be exhausting.

Record your calls.
All of them.

Not for compliance.
Not for content.

When you listen back, two things happen fast.

You see exactly where you’re strong.
You see exactly where you leak value.

Early 2024 forced me to dive deep into my meetings.
As I was booking them consistently.
But clients weren’t converting.

My first assumption was the obvious one.
“I must be bad on calls.”
Wrong.

The real issue was more subtle and more damaging.

I was allowing my prospects to treat the meeting like an open advice line.
Which is helpful, generous but also super unfocused.

One of the best things about the way we work now?

I can be on serious business calls all day.

I came up in a world where “real work” meant sitting in an office all day.

Do good work.
Be clear.

We’ve finally reached a point where output matters more than optics.

I defined the floor.

For me, that meant.

• five outbound conversations started
• zero days with no pipeline activity

Same workload. Same constraints.
Just fewer decisions left open.

Within the first full week:
3 new clients closed
10 meetings booked

Not because January is special.
But because momentum shows up when rules are clear.

If January feels slow, do not push harder.
Set the floor and remove the choice to drift.

Chasing new leads feels productive, but it’s usually just avoidance.

Most founders assume slow growth means they need more leads.

So they.
→ Start new outreach
→ Target new people
→ Switch content topics
→ Reset the cycle

What they don’t do is build depth.

Instead of chasing new conversations, follow up with someone you spoke to months ago who already knows how you think.

Instead of posting about a brand new idea, revisit a topic you’ve already covered, from a sharper angle, with clearer judgment.

If you think sales is just about how much effort you put in.
You are wrong.

These things lead to more stress.

But if deals only move when you are actively forcing them forward.
That is not a motivation issue and it is not a market issue.

“I do not want to post consistently.
I hate seeing those people who are always in my feed.
It feels cringey.”

And they are not wrong.
Some of the content is awful.

But here is what is actually happening.

You do not remember people because they post a lot.
You remember them because they show up at all.

The ones you complain about are the ones you can name without checking LinkedIn.

That is not an accident.

Consistency is not what makes content cringe.
Lack of thinking does.

Posting badly and posting often are not the same thing.
But they get lumped together because it is convenient.

Here is the trade-off most agency owners never say out loud.

You can protect your taste and stay invisible.
Or you can risk mild discomfort and be remembered.

There is no upside to being unknown with high standards.

Clients do not buy from the best hidden thinker.
They buy from the person they trust and can recall.

And recall only comes from repetition.

If someone needs to see your name five times before they take you seriously, that does not mean you are cringey.

It means you are human.

Avoiding consistency does not protect your brand.
It just protects your ego.

And egos do not build pipelines.

I have a big smile on my face this morning.

Not because of a launch or a viral post.

Because of two emails.

I sent two newsletters this week.
Each one took about 15 minutes to write.
Both were content-heavy and genuinely useful.

The result?
👉 5 replies to each email
👉 3 calls booked from each one
👉 6 calls total from 30 minutes of writing

That is not normal email marketing.
That is nurture working.

Usually, I get one or two replies per newsletter.
This time, more people responded and booked calls.

And this is exactly why I keep repeating the same thing to friends, clients, and anyone who will listen.

If you are not sending emails, you are making growth harder than it needs to be.

Newsletters nurture and sales emails convert.

When you stay consistently in your audience’s inbox.
→ You stay in their head.

When you stay in their head.
→ You get picked when the timing is right.

Most businesses do not do this because they underestimate the power of email.

Remember 30 minutes got me 6 calls.
The ROI on my time is crazy.

That is leverage.

If your pipeline depends entirely on chasing, this is your reminder that attraction exists too.

Attention is not a nice-to-have anymore.
It is the currency your pipeline runs on.
And every month, it gets more expensive.

Ever feel like content is a game of cat and mouse?

You can’t catch a mouse without putting some cheese out.

Most people continue to chase leads with empty content.
No hooks, no insight, nothing worth stopping for.

Then they blame the algorithm… or worse, the audience.

But it’s not a lead problem.
It’s a cheese problem.

Your market isn’t ignoring you.
They’re just not hungry for what you’re serving.

When your content actually hooks attention, shares something useful, and demonstrates genuine thought.

You stop chasing.
You start attracting.

That’s when the algorithm bends in your favour.

It was never about catching the mouse.
It was about becoming the cheese.

Sometimes a simplified marketing process beats a complicated one.

Posting consistently, engaging properly, and connecting with the right people on one platform will outperform a scattered strategy almost every time.

Yet we keep seeing the same pattern.

3 landing pages.
25 long-form videos.
TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn.
Now YouTube is added to the list.

None of them mastered.
None of them consistent.

That is not ambition.
That is dilution.

You are not behind because you are missing tools.
You are behind because you are splitting attention.

I had a call recently with a prospect who is not active on social at all, but wants to build a following, run cold email outreach, and launch YouTube content in two months without any foundation.

I told him the truth.

That is not a strategy.
That is a full-time job pretending to be a side project.

The fastest way to grow is not being everywhere.
It is focusing on being somewhere for a long enough time.

So just keep it simple.
1. Master one platform.
2. Build proof.
3. Create momentum.

Everything else comes after.

Authority or virality?
Which is best, and which do you want more of?

Most founders say they want both.
That answer is usually the reason their content does nothing.

Virality optimises for attention.
Authority optimises for trust.

Attention feels productive.
Trust books meetings.

Viral content is designed to be shared by people who will never hire you.
Authoritative content is designed to be recognised by the few people who can.

So ask yourself this before you post anything.
• Who do I want to recognise this?
• What decision do I want them to make after reading it?
• Would the right buyer see this and think “this person understands my world”?

If the answer is no, the post is noise, even if it performs.

A recruiter with 3 inbound conversations a month from the right companies beats a recruiter with 30,000 views every time.

So decide what you are building.

A bigger audience
Or a smaller group of people who already trust your judgement

Because content that is not built around that decision is not neutral.

It is quietly training the wrong people to pay attention.

Starting the year slowly used to be my default.
And it used to kill my momentum from the year before.

I’d tell myself January didn’t really count.
People were still easing back in.
Decision makers weren’t fully switched on yet.

In reality, it was just an excuse to underperform.

So this year, I scrapped that thinking.

Instead of setting “January targets”, I set targets based on what the business actually needs to hit the outcome I want for the year. No easing in. No soft runway.

We’ve only really been back since January 5th.
That is only 3 days.

In that time.
• 3 new clients closed
• 10 meetings booked

Same market. Same people. Same calendar.
Different mentality. Different actions. Different result.

When you limit time and remove optionality, your actions rise to meet it.
When you stretch the goal and stop negotiating with yourself, you discover you were capable of more all along.

January isn’t quiet.
It’s revealing.

Just thought I’d share.

Most services fail because they make your client’s life harder.

No matter what you sell, your real job is simple.
Make your client’s world lighter.

If you run a recruitment business, your job is not to send CVs.
Your job is to reduce stress, indecision, and wasted interviews.

If you run a content service, your job is not to “support visibility.”
Your job is to remove thinking entirely. What to post. When to post. Why it matters. All handled.

If you are a consultant or strategist, your job is not to impress with ideas.
It is to make decisions obvious and execution frictionless.

Here is the standard most people avoid asking themselves.

Does working with me save my client time, money, or energy?

Because if the answer is no, you are not adding value.
You are outsourcing stress.

The bar should be this high.
When someone works with you, they should feel relief.

If your service adds complexity, it needs refining.

And if it adds stress, it does not matter how good it looks on paper.
Because you are bringing new propblems to your clients door.

I had one of my free trials convert into a long-term client yesterday.
But at the start of us working together, he was sceptical.

He wasn’t convinced the goal we set would actually happen.

Within 24 hours of us starting, he changed his mind.

When we spoke after, he said he was genuinely surprised.
Not just impressed by the offer.
Not just sold on the vision.

Surprised that what I said would happen… actually happened.

That’s why he became a client.

Not because I promised something big.
But because I set a clear target, explained what was and wasn’t possible, and delivered inside the timeframe we agreed.

There was no hype, no ego.
I never said to him, “Just trust the process”.

Just data, boundaries, and execution.

Here’s the lesson I keep relearning:

Overpromising doesn’t build trust.
Underselling doesn’t either.

Clarity does.

You should know what you can realistically achieve.
Say that.
Then do exactly that.

That’s it.

The best way to create your best content is to reduce the friction between the idea forming and you capturing it.

I use voice notes sent to myself on WhatsApp.
Or I dump ideas straight into the iPhone Notes app.

I don’t wait to write them down later.
I don’t try to write a polished version first.

I want the raw context while the idea is alive.
Refinement comes later.

That raw capture is your advantage.
Don’t dilute it.
