For years I worked in the creative industry, delivering multi-million dollar projects for design houses that fell short on delivering value and ingenuity for their brands.

Reporting to the President Rio Tinto Iron Ore Asia, this Singapore based leadership role was responsible for strategic direction of pricing mechanisms for ~USD20 billion revenue in a  rapidly evolving, increasingly complex iron ore market.  The role led a team of 6 people and coordinated the efforts of regional offices to maximise margins via high value, time critical negotiation of price structures. Elevated RTIO's price outcomes to clearly outperform our major competitors' publicly reported results over a 3 year term (Fe unit basis to remove quality differences):
- for the 3 years I was in this role Rio Tinto averaged 105% of the benchmark iron ore price whilst BHP averaged 103% and FMG averaged 91%
- for 2 years prior to my tenure Rio Tinto averaged 100% of the benchmark iron ore price whilst BHP averaged 105%  and FMG averaged 94%

General Manager Pricing & Chief Negotiator

QR National

Reporting to Executive Vice President - Commercial and Marketing this role led a team of 3 account managers, championed customer satisfaction and transformed the profit from Aurizon's coal haulage customer base.  It led rail corridor strategy and negotiations of rail haulage agreements, successfully securing $1.0 billion of rail haulage across 3 agreements and moving from legacy agreements to secure take or pay arrangements.

Vice President Marketing

Reporting to the Executive General Manager - Commercial and Marketing this role built, trained and led a team of 4 account managers, championed customer focus and successfully secured AUD1.6 billion revenue of rail haulage across 7 agreements under modern, secure take or pay arrangements.

Queensland Business Manager

Reporting to the General Manager - National Commercial and Marketing this role account managed 3 of Aurizon’s 4 largest customers during a period of transformation (Aurizon IPO).  I renewed AUD2 billion of rail haulage from a key accounts Queensland’s mines by being able to apply my coal sellers' perspectives to understand their needs, leading the team that was awarded the CEO’s Service Excellence GROWTH Award for the product design.

Group Account Manager

Rio Tinto Alcan

Reporting to General Manager Sales and Marketing this role was the functional lead for APAC primary aluminium sales (>150 customers, USD2 billion annual revenue).  It led production planning, logistics, customer service, IS&T, quality systems and business improvement functions, with a team of 4 direct reports and 22 staff members.  Achieved record stock reduction (24% YoY) in 2008 liberating USD21M in additional working capital and redesigned marketing structure for Rio Tinto Alcan Asia Pacific Sales & Marketing, centralising management and functionality and reducing FTE count from 57 to 52.  Transferred 36,000 tonnes of sales (~5%) from Rio Tinto Aluminium Ltd to Alcan Inc companies to generate additional EBIT of USD10 million and managed >USD50 million annual freight spend covering containers, break-bulk, truck and rail transportation modes.

Regional Manager Pricing & Service

Reporting to the Managing Director Primary Metal this role led 25 team members accountable for sales, technical, projects, production planning, logistics, customer service, IS&T, quality systems and improvement functions through the uncertainty of integration (Rio Tinto/Alcan).  Led team to achieve record sales volume, sales revenue and value add contribution margin in 2007 and setting a platform for further performance improvement in 2008.

General Manager Sales & Marketing (Acting)

Reporting to the General Manager Sales and Marketing this role led 2 local and 8 international team members accountable for business development, sales, logistics and customer account management for SE Asia, Australia & New Zealand Primary Aluminium Sales (>100 customers, >USD750 million revenue).

Rio Tinto Coal Australia

Reporting to the General Manager Sales and Marketing this role managed and optimised the  coal sales to Japan from 3 Queensland mines and 1 Indonesian mine (Kaltim Prima) for a total of >USD450 million in annual revenue.  The role had responsibility for market intelligence, divisional strategy and represented Pacific Coal on asset acquisition and development teams.
