I am working on the project of  evaluation of Surrogate endpoints in Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease  (COPD) and Asthma clinical trials. 

Asthma is a chronic disease characterized by recurrent attacks of breathlessness, wheezing, coughing, chest tightness or pain and causes the airways of the lungs to swell and narrow.
 My research involves data from different trials, and the main research question is whether we could replace the clinical endpoint by some intermediate endpoints.

COPD is a lung disease characterized by chronic obstruction of
lung airflow that interferes with normal breathing, and is not fully reversible. Its symptoms are breathlessness, wheezing, chronic cough and chest tightness.

These two obstructive lung diseases have many in common, and in a sense both reduce the lung function and could cause a high degree of disability and mortality. Therefore, there is high demands for a cheaper and faster production therapy compared to the current ones that could eventually prevent the progression of the symptoms in asthma and COPD. To this end many studies have been done on different Biomarkers for asthma and COPD with a hope of finding a potential surrogate endpoints that could be used as a replacement for true endpoints. My research involves intensive simulation, bootstrapping, permutation and model selection.
