"Distribution is your moat" isn't just a line in my cover photo.

It's how I, a chemistry graduate with 0 writing background ended up working with founders, CTOs, and CMOs.

I wouldn't be here if I hadn't started sharing my stories during lockdown.

That simple act of consistent distribution led to my first client, then the next, and well, you get it.

Science taught me to experiment, to question everything, to look beyond the obvious.

Now I apply that same curiosity to content and ideas. Instead of chemical reactions, I study how stories travel, how narratives build authority, how consistency creates trust.

Every piece of content is an experiment in human connection.

From chemistry equations to LinkedIn narratives, from lab reports to viral threads - the principles remain surprisingly similar.

Test, analyze, refine, repeat. Just with words instead of molecules.

That scientific approach shows up in everything I do: crafting content that resonates, building distribution systems that scale, running my own 2 newsletters, and yes, even in how I approach my deadlifts at the gym.

Because at heart, I'm still that curious student who loves to explore, experiment, and share what I discover. Just mixing different elements now.

There are months where you feel like you’ve won at life... and then there are months like this where it feels like you’re back to square one.

That’s freelancing / solopreneurship / entrepreneurship for you.

For context, I’ve been self-employed for a little over two years now. I didn’t choose this route, it kinda chose me.

Someone reached out, offered me work, and one month after quitting my job, I accidentally entered this world.

Two years later, I’m back at the same phase I felt at the end of year one: starting again.

The ecosystem changes.
The market changes.
Service businesses (especially creative, skill-led ones) keep getting reshaped.

So you’re always pivoting. Always rebuilding.

That’s where I am now.

This time, I want to be more ruthless, disciplined, and proactive. Not treating this as “something I do,” but as an actual business.

I tried that in the last few months and failed gloriously but that’s okay. We start again.

I just hope writing this isn’t another fluff post.

I want to get to where I know I can be.

This isn’t a reminder for you.

It’s a reminder for me, to simply do better every day.

Not right. Not wrong. Just better.

I've been staring at Nikita's question, "a decision you took that paid off," for hours, and I don't have a decision I can confidently point to and say "yes, that one changed everything for the better."

She posted about her own decision earlier, and I sat down to write mine. Except... I'm stuck.

Not because I haven't made big decisions. I've made plenty:

- Dropped out of my MSc in Chemistry
- Did a remote MBA (that most people don't think is "valuable")
- Chose writing/social media management over a "stable" career
- Left my BLR job to pursue solopreneur-ship

But have they "paid off"?

I don't know yet. And I'm not sure I ever will.

I think that (in my case), most decisions don't have a clear ROI. There's no moment where you suddenly know "yes, this was worth it."

The things that I did, maybe I'll regret them in 10 years. Maybe it was the best decision I ever made. Right now, it's just... a thing that happened.

The solo business, on some days, feels like freedom. Other days, it feels like I'm one bad month away from panic. Has it "paid off"? Depends on the day you ask me.

We love the narrative of "I made this ONE decision and everything changed." It's clean. It's inspiring. It makes for great content.

But my reality is messier. It's not one decision, it's a series of them. And I won't know if they paid off until way later. Maybe never.

Every step led me somewhere. Don't know whether it's the "right" somewhere (still figuring that out).

Sometimes life doesn't work like a case study with a neat conclusion.

Sometimes you just make the choice that feels true in the moment and hope it makes sense later.

I made a discovery today. Instagram is changing how people discover Reels. 

Just this evening, while scrolling through my client's Instagram, I noticed that content (Reels) wasn't showing up randomly anymore. It was sorted by impressions.

That's when I started digging.

Instagram's been quietly testing a bunch of UI changes (which you might have already noticed if you are a beta user) that point to one big shift: Reels are becoming the core of Instagram.

Here's what's shifting/already shifted -

1/ Reels-first layout

Reels is becoming a primary tab. In some tests, you can swipe between Reels and DMs directly, treating Reels the same way Stories used to be central to the app.

2/ New sorting options inside Reels

Instagram has been testing this feature where you can filter your Reels tab by "Most Viewed" and "Latest." This means high-performing content gets surfaced first(?)

3/ A revamped "Following" tab

Instagram's testing filters like All, Friends, and Latest giving users more control over their feed, but also making it harder for brands to show up unless their content is genuinely engaging.

4/ "Impressions" are being phased out in favor of "Views"

This isn't just a metric rename. It's Instagram aligning its language with how people actually consume content and pushing creators to focus on watch time over reach.

The platform's shifting fast and I'm trying to keep up as I currently figure out Instagram growth for a med spa client.

What's clear is that performance varies wildly by industry. Educational content doesn't always win. What works for one niche flops in another.

Still learning. More insights soon as I test what actually moves the needle.

I've been self-employed for 2 years now and it feels like I have barely scratched the surface. 

Time to lock in, go deeper than wider.

I almost died from prawns. Here are 8 lessons about growing your startup:

1/ Unexpected reactions happen - Just like prawns attacked my immune system, market shifts will attack your business model. Stay alert. (Or just avoid shellfish.)

2/ Swelling is feedback - My face swelling was my body's way of saying "stop." Your customers ghosting you - same energy.

3/ Breathing is essential - Can't breathe = can't work. Can't acquire customers = can't grow. The metaphor writes itself.

4/ Medical help matters - I needed a doctor. Your startup needs advisors. (This comparison is reaching but we're committed now.)

5/ Prevention > Reaction - Should've read the label. Should've done market research. See what I did there?

6/ Recovery takes time - Healing isn't instant. Neither is building distribution. (Are you convinced yet?)

7/ Trust the process - My body knew prawns were bad before my brain did. Trust your gut in business too. (I'm so sorry for this.)

8/ Document everything - I documented my allergy. You should document your learnings. (We've officially run out of parallels.)

Note: None of this makes sense. Stop turning your personal life into forced business metaphors. It's okay to just... share something without extracting a "lesson."

(Yes, I see the irony of making this into content. That's the point.)

For solopreneurs, 0 → 1 isn’t as clear as it is for startups.

There’s no investor round, no PMF announcement, no team milestone.

So what defines it?

Is it that first paying client? Consistent monthly revenue? A repeatable system that runs without you?

Startups have product–market fit.

But what’s the equivalent milestone for a one-person business?

When do you know you’ve hit 1 from 0?

The worst you can do for your thought leadership on LinkedIn/socials is to agree with every person’s opinion on here.

The best thing you can do for your thought leadership is to pause on their idea, build your own perspective and then post/comment your insights.

After all, thought leadership is to become an authority in your industry.

And you can’t do that if you’re another sheep in the herd.

My favorite productivity hack is cleaning my room when I'm creatively blocked.

Sounds like self-help BS. It's not. It's just what my brain does when it refuses to work.

Normal people take a walk or make coffee. I start aggressively reorganizing my desk like I'm about to move countries.

And it works. Every time.

By the time I've decided whether to keep that random 2019 charging cable, my brain has figured out the content hook I was stuck on.

I don't know the science. Don't care. All I know is my subconscious needs me doing something physical, with my HANDS so it can work in the background.

Is this healthy? Questionable.

Does it work? Absolutely.

Is my room the cleanest it's ever been because I have commitment issues with content? Yes.

What's your weird, inexplicable thing that sounds fake but isn't?

Has anyone actually had any luck resolving anything with the Airbnb team?

My friends have been running an Airbnb for over a year; 500+ guests, great reviews, and consistently improving their guest experience.

Out of nowhere, Airbnb suddenly blocked their account.

At first, the support team said it was a glitch. Then they said it wasn’t.

And now there is no clear reason, no transparency, just silence and a ton of frustration.

If my friends had done something wrong, they’d want to fix it.

But losing their entire business overnight, when they’ve been running multiple units exclusively on Airbnb, feels incredibly unfair.

This one’s personal for me because I’ve been helping them improve the guest experience, so watching this happen has been really disheartening.

If anyone has any luck stories or knows how to actually get Airbnb to resolve issues instead of sending repetitive, templated responses, please, please, please help us out. 🙏
