It’s been one month since I joined Microsoft, and the most common question I receive is:

“How did you prepare for interviews while working 5 days a week from office?”

Honestly, there’s no magic.
There’s no secret 10-hour study schedule.

What worked for me was consistency over intensity.

When I was preparing for SDE2 roles, I knew weekends alone wouldn’t be enough. After multiple trials, I created a routine that actually worked:

✅ 2 hours in the morning (before office)
✅ 1 hour in the evening (after work)
✅ Repeat. Every single day.

That’s it. 3 focused hours daily.

Some days were exhausting.
Some days I didn’t feel like studying.
But I showed up anyway.

Preparation with a full-time job isn’t about motivation.
It’s about discipline and systems.

In those 3 hours, I focused on:

Brushing up DSA fundamentals

Practicing problem-solving daily

Learning LLD & HLD concepts

Revising design patterns

Mock interviews & self-review


Small daily progress compounds.

If you’re working 5 days from office and thinking you don’t have time — you do.
You just need a structure.

Consistency beats weekend marathons. Always.
