The role is to act as a catalyst for innovation and lead the development of the Design faculty's industry relevant course portfolio (building external relationships with companies, agencies, associations and industry boards) to make sure we meet the needs of not only the design industry, but business in general and ensure the employability of graduating students. The role covers Communication and Graphic Design, Photo Imaging, Digital Media, Games, Media Design, Branded Fashion and Interior Design (Commercial and Residential) at Campuses in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Auckland.

Key Achievements
•	Created and event managed the annual Torrens University national design exhibition (Intro) for graduating students across four campuses in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide
•	Organised various Hackathons for a number of charities that fitted in with Laureate International Universities global Here For Good strategy
•	Created a university-based design studio modelled on a traditional design agency where students were able to gain work integrated learning experience that went toward credits for their course. The Billy Blue Creative studio did creative work for both internal and external enterprises.
•	Established partnerships with Queensland Olympic Council, Channel 7, Ogilvy CommonHealth, Vodafone, the ABC, DDB and Johnson & Johnson.

Billy Blue Creative

I nurtured an ad hoc, on-campus group of designers into a fully functioning creative studio that is committed to designing engaging brand experiences and innovative solutions for clients’ marketing and communication challenges. 

Staying true to the original Billy Blue roots, and with the support of Torrens University Australia and Billy Blue College of Design, Billy Blue Creative is an atypical design studio. We believe in nurturing and inspiring the present and future generation of designers by facilitating their learning in a real-studio environment. BBC services both internal and external clients.

Design Director

Media Design School was rated the best graphic design school in the world and third best computer graphics school in the world in 2016. Headquartered in New Zealand, it now runs programmes in Milan, Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney.

Key achievements
•	Key role in the development of the Eight Common Core subjects
•	Member of a Learning and Teaching committee to approve two courses for the Education Vertical
•	Chaired an Examination Committee
•	Presented the Communication and Graphic Design degree programme to the PEARL Academy in India 
•	Was the driving force behind the successful Johnson & Johnson HaTCHathon that has been fundamental in developing an ongoing relationship with the global pharmaceutical company.

Programme Leader — Graphic, Motion and Interactive Design

I was responsible for the introduction, paper outlines, briefs and deliverables for a number of special topic papers with a focus on design and its role in business.

Key Achievements
•	Was the VCD representative at the ASoD QAC meetings to sign off the department’s marks, and sort any issues out ready for QAC in Wellington 
•	As Programme Leader ensured all course briefs were up to date and the learning outcomes matched those on the Paper Outlines and had equivalence with the College of Creative Arts in Wellington
•	In 2012 was the College of Creative Art’s representative on the Vice Chancellor’s steering committee for the development, structure, running order and speakers for the New Zealand Symposium
•	Key member of the planning team for the organisation and execution of the annual Exposure exhibition for graduating student’s work and helped plan the show as well 
•	Massey’s representative at the annual Westpac North Business Awards launch.

Author

Eric is an advocate for using the design process to innovate a human-centred approach to how we look at education, change management and leadership. He is a keen advocate of problem solving the root cause, rather than the symptoms. He also blends excellent relationship building skills with proven people leadership skills and sound business acumen in order to drive positive change initiatives for organisations. He has been a practicing designer for 30 years specialising in visual communication, brand and brand development and sense of place. More recently he has been involved in tertiary education developing design curriculum based on creative and design industry needs to ensure student employability. 

He has high standards and creates a great sense of purpose in the team around him, and the people who work indirectly with him. He also works positively with others to help guide them in their careers.

•	High Potential - Selected as one of 32 to be part of the Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific (EMEAA) region to join their talent development strategy for staff with high potential
•	Queensland Olympic Committee - Member sub-committee board for athlete transition from sport into careers
•	The Design Show, Brisbane - Member international panel to discuss how to get industry into the design classroom
•	Executive Director - Kokoda Trail Virtual Reality (VR) project released to one million Australian high school students showcasing how Australian service men halted the Japanese invasion during World War II
•	Executive Director - Thin Ice VR project showing adventurer Tim Jarvis recreating the famous events of polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton Antarctic trek where he discovered climate change has drastically impacted the region
