Just another LinkedIn sales influencer... but funnier and better looking than most.

Born in 1994 in the roundabout filled town of Milton Keynes I was always the odd child at school. 

After getting the worlds most pointless degree at University of Brighton I decided to go “find myself” by working in a French Ski Resort, backpacking through south-east Asia, before temporarily settling down in Sydney Australia where I got work as a recruiter and then moving to Canada. 

Now in North America I was determined to work in SaaS sales because I saw on Reddit that you can make BANK selling software.

Just a couple of years later after trying to find my footing I was the top rep on my team.

This gave me time to open up TikTok and on April of 2021 I made my first video, then I made one everyday for 6-months. 

This opened up my love for content creation and led me to my current career in marketing, keynotes, book writing, and sales training.

My kids are 8 and 5 and still believe in Santa.

Well… they did. I told them the truth yesterday.

Many people will say that’s cruel.

I call it a kindness.

Why?

Because I don’t want my kids growing up thinking miracles happen without hard work.

Miracles don’t happen:

- When you’re short on quota
- When you're hit with an unexpected objection
- When your deals go dark

No one slides down the chimney in Q4 with a sack full of closed-won deals.

Reward doesn't come when you're tucked up in bed after a story and warm glass of milk.

Reward comes from late nights, sweat, toil and tears.

The calls you don't want to make.
The conversations you’d rather avoid.
The toys you put away the first time you're asked.

So yes, I ruined Santa.

But I taught them something more useful:

If you want reward, you don’t wish.

You do the work. 

Why are people still lying to their children?

This prospects OOO email said he was in Paris but I still called.

This is why you should always pick up the phone!

3 months living and working in Canada.

Today we fly back home.

It’s been an opportunity only 100% remote work could create.

For anyone who has the opportunity to work outside of the comforts of your typical routine, I’d encourage you to take it.

It’s not been plain sailing, but we travel home stronger as a family, with new experiences and my kids have a broader view of the world.

We also appreciate what we have at home more than ever and are keen to get back to the comforts of routine!

Highlights

- Long drives. Seeing epic scenery as Green turned to Orange turned to white.

- Experiencing nature. We ticked off all the Canada wildlife and stayed in some epic remote locations.

- Seeing my kids experience life in a different way. City life, The big yellow school bus and a different country. It’s been tough at times, but they’ve been incredible.

Don’t know if we’ll do it again. But if we do, a bigger apartment wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Already planning to comeback to Toronto in 2027.

Canada, you’ve been a blast.

Upset a lot of people with my posts. Made a lot of new friends.

500k impressions in 2 weeks - Here's what I learned.

Some context: 

👉🏼 I'm a video first creator, with about 15k followers. 
👉🏼 Impressions have been in the toilet.
👉🏼 Feeling a bit jaded - Wanted to experiment with some theories. 

1️⃣ JUST POST MORE
I'm inconsistent on here. Typically 3 times a week. Never on weekends.
Posted 23 times (early morning and afternoon 9/14 days)

✅ RESULT: Net positive. More posts = More impressions (duh). Highest impression post was on a Saturday.

✌🏼 LEARNING: If a post flops, no one (including the algorithm) cares. Just keep posting. You'll learn more about what is good. Weekends are good.

2️⃣ LINKEDIN PREFERS TEXT POSTS
I prefer posting video, but I believe text posts are preferred and are pushed to more people. I wanted to test the success of text posts.

✅ RESULT: All my highest impressions came from text posts.
✌🏼 LEARNING: I should continue to post text posts. But be careful what you post...

3️⃣ SATIRE IS GOOD FOR ENGAGEMENT
Creators are building audiences subverting LinkedIn 'bro/hustle energy'. I wanted to try it. Wrote some ragebait posts with enough humour that they wouldn't be taken too seriously

✅ RESULT: Lots of impressions, not an equal number of followers. Lots of angry/confused people.
✌🏼 LEARNING: TBC. Made enough people laugh that I'll probably keep doing them, but perhaps I'll up the humour so people know I'm joking.

4️⃣ VIDEO IS DEAD
Video numbers are in the toilet. Wondered if I should keep posting video and how it compared to text.

✅ RESULT: Impressions significantly lower, but engagement ratio is higher. Also saw my impressions on video increase from previous before. which I put down to increased audience engagement and more frequent posting
✌🏼 LEARNING: Video is not dead and is a trust multiplier. Engagement to follow is higher with video.

TL:DR Summary

Post more, try a mix of things, and remember that your content will be seen by more people you don't know than people you do, so be careful playing with fire.

Actual real Insights I received include:

- I shop at Amazon
- I have a joint account with my wife
- I purchased takeaway
- I went to the Zoo once

Can't wait for Tesco to join in next year and tell me:

"you bought a lot of loo roll that week you had D&V!!" 

Think I'm going to go back to buying CDs and using cash.

Many people don't know this, but I was raised in the North Pole.

And it led me to become a successful author. 

Many people are born into success.

Me?

I made it all by myself. Through grit, hard work and a lot of sugar.

If you want to tell stories that people want to read you have to live them yourself.

So that's what I did.

Abandoned as a child. Raised as an outsider.

Discovering my mother was gone. And my father didn't want me.

That would finish most people. But it didn't stop me.

I forced myself into a job, staying up late to do work that no one asked me to do.

Did they thank me? No

I didn't do it for thanks.

I did it for Santa.

Did I complain? 

Not once.

Because if you believe in your values with relentless conviction

People will join you.

And if you do it long enough, you'll get that dream job working at your rich and successful fathers publishing company.

Some people will do the hard work it takes to be successful.

Others are just a cotton headed ninny muggins.

Thoughts?

I saw something at school pickup that I can’t stop thinking about.

A Dad was collecting his son at the gates.

His son approached with a small group (~20%) of his classmates.

“Okay,” the Dad said. “Go ahead.”

The boy turned to the group and said:

“Hi everyone. I wanted to give you a quick update on a strategic reorganisation to my party plans this Saturday.”

He paused.

“After careful consideration, we've determined your role at my party is no longer required with immediate effect"

A few kids laughed, assuming it was a joke.

He kept going. Calm. Measured.

“This is not a decision we take lightly. we had to be thoughtful about capacity and friendship alignment"

"It doesn’t reflect the work you've delivered as classmates.”

Then added:

“We appreciate everything you’ve brought to the classroom this year.”

And walked back to his Dad.

No questions.
No follow-ups.
No Q&A.

Dad hugged him. Told him he did great.

You see, the kid wasn’t learning how to throw a party.
He was learning how to deliver bad news directly.
 
- How to maintain composure when faces fall.
- How to move forward without over-explaining.
- How to ensure birthdays retain maximum shareholder value.

Because one day, he won’t be managing guest lists.

He’ll be managing layoffs.

And his Dad wasn't being cruel.

He was just teaching him how leadership works.
