I'm Julien Paredes, a seasoned Blockchain & Metaverse Consultant and Strategic Advisor, deeply immersed in the digital transformation of today's business landscape. My journey in the metaverse reached a pinnacle as the Partnerships Manager at Boson Protocol, where we pioneered the world's first Metaverse Fashion Week, collaborating with iconic brands like Tommy Hilfiger, adidas, Lacoste, IKKS and more.

Before diving into the digital realm, I dedicated over a decade to empowering civil societies through NGOs, touching on education, governance, agriculture, healthcare, and the economy. My advocacy extended to the halls of the EU Parliament and the French Assembly, where I lobbied for citizen-centric policies.

As an entrepreneur, I co-founded a start-up that revolutionized fundraising for NGOs by harnessing the power of video games & eSports, leading to significant partnerships with industry giants like RIOT Games.

Since 2013, my blockchain odyssey has seen me don multiple hats as a Project Manager, Advisor, and Consultant, honing a robust understanding of blockchain mechanics and adoption strategies.

I launched Wikiverse, a community-led web3 educational directory, further cementing my commitment to making blockchain technology accessible and comprehensible to all.

During my time at Boson Protocol, I spearheaded partnerships in the Metaverse & Web3 spaces, leading to the groundbreaking launch of PORTAL in Decentraland and the inception of the first-ever Fashion Week in the Metaverse.

One month in at Buffer, and I’m finally at the point where I can take a step back and share some reflections. 

I now understand better why a small team of about 70 can compete so effectively with much larger companies, even those with hundreds of employees and sometimes listed on the public market. 

A few things stand out so far.

1️⃣ Onboarding here is treated like actual work, not admin. I had an actual Linear project with real tasks, clear outcomes, and strong expectations. It’s onboarding, but it’s also how you learn the Buffer way of shipping: documentation, async updates and clear alignement. Spoiler: I’m only halfway through it.

2️⃣ The documentation is here and living. No half-finished process doc that barely shares context. It's real writing, maintained by everyone. With 14 years of history (!??), it creates the feeling that you’re never starting from zero, even when you’re new.

3️⃣ Culture is taken (very) seriously. On day one, I was paired with a culture buddy (Hannah Voice 👋). We meet every week to talk about Buffer’s values and how they show up in practice.Transparency stands out: almost every conversations are in public channels. Even the rare few private channels are listed in Buffer's Notion with their descriptions. Sure, it required adaptation from my previous way of working, but the upside is real: less (haven’t experienced any) politics, faster alignment, and more people able to help since everyone see what’s happening, which leads to the next one, ownership.

4️⃣ There’s a strong entrepreneurial spirit, and I can see why so many Bufferoos have been here for 5, 7, even 10+ years, when SaaS turnover is usually around 2–3. Sure this is not the ONLY reason but everyone is just...committed, and this is great to experience that. 

5️⃣ Customer focus isn’t just a nice line either. You can see it in regular decisions that Buffer don’t optimise for short-term MRR: keeping a generous free plan, being willing to lose revenue when it’s the right thing for the customer, etc. The conversations are about solving real customer problems not how much can we extract from them. 

6️⃣ Remote finally done well. Buffer is quietly shipping 24/7. Linear tickets, slack messages, PRs, project updates, it never stops. At first, it was overwhelming, trying to catch everything that was going on. Now I've embraced it (and might have muted a few Slack channels). Also, how can I blame it? Excuse yourself for delivering too fast? lol. 

Anyway, that’s a mini-retro I wanted to share while I still have the “outside eyes” perspective. I’m (pleasantly) surprised by how intentional it all is.
