A theme for 2026 is emerging:
𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗵𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽.

2025 was a rite of passage.
Hard, personally confronting, and liberating.

Relationships began, relationships ended,
and I came home to myself,
in ways I couldn't have imagined when the year began.

What I learned:

1️⃣
Healing old wounds is possible when you're willing to turn towards discomfort instead of clinging to certainty and the ways you protect yourself from feeling.

2️⃣
Doing the work of healing in community is transformative when you're willing to reveal yourself honestly and allow others to see you for who you really are.

3️⃣
The courage to be disliked is a game-changer in leadership.

It allows a yes to be a yes, and a no to be a no,
even if it might disrupt the harmony of a group.
Spoiler alert: It usually doesn't.

Why this theme in 2026 - the 𝗥𝗵𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽?

As I coach more leaders, 
facilitate more groups, 
and participate in the work of organizational strategy, 
it's become clear: 

The foundation that makes all valuable and purposeful work possible
is the quality of relationships in a group -

The rhythm at which trust forms, 
difficult conversations happen, 
and insight moves to action.

Plus, I'm a big music nerd, 
so this theme gives me an excuse to share more about what lights me up.

In 2025, I discovered the "bands" I want to gig with.

In 2026, we're taking the show to new levels:

→ Inside-Out Leadership: AI-enhanced mindful leadership development for post-PMF startup founders and their teams

→ cocreation.loft: Exploring the healthy practice of self-organization and learning to thrive in complexity while staying true to the soul of our purpose

→ Warmspace: A soulful tech platform that elevates connection in large companies by automating rhythms of relationship as an organizational nervous system

And of course, I continue to grow Art of Unfolding: 

A next-generation organizational development firm, 
helping mission-driven technology companies adopt self-organization 
as a path to regenerating our global systems.

There is much more to come.

Me and a new friend who already feels like an old friend, Vishal Jodhani.

It doesn't get more soulful and warm than a connection with him.

He, along with many other healers, leaders, and space-holders,
give me a tremendous amount of hope—
even during times that feel dark.

They are doing the work,
revealing their light,
and helping others do the same.

One connection at a time.

has done their 10,000 hours.

10,000 hours sitting in silence.
10,000 hours integrating their shadow.
10,000 hours counting their breath.
10,000 hours learning to set boundaries.
10,000 hours letting go of the need to be a leader.
10,000 hours of hard, direct conversations.
10,000 hours of failing and learning to get back up.
10,000 hours mastering the art of starting with a blank canvas.
10,000 hours dying, and being reborn.

The path of the inside-out leader is narrow indeed.

The fruits of the path is exactly what humanity needs.

In the end,
it's all about relationships. 

You're a leader? Cool.

You're in the relationship game. 

Which means you are in the game of love.

It's impossible to avoid when you're in relationship with others.

But I don't mean romantic love. 

I mean something deeper and wider. 

Something that calls forth that which is true in each of us.

Something that challenges us and grows us. 

What the Greeks would call "agape",
"the highest form of love, or charity."

Some may even call it (gasp!) - 𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲.

Yup, dropped the S-bomb on you.

There's a thread I'm going to be pulling on,
in my content this year. 

It's the thread that goes from the individual to the collective.

From the ME ME ME to the WE. 

How relationship is the cornerstone of it all,
and the art to master when one takes seriously the vocation of leadership. 

It's gonna be:
🌸 fun
🌸 juicy
🌸 illuminating
🌸 challenging
🌸 weird, sometimes
🌸 life-affirming, usually
🌸 educational, often, and -
🌸 an invitation to connect deeper with yourself and others.

More to come, but I'll leave you with a great passage,
by the poet Adrienne Rich on the 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲.

"An honorable human relationship — 
that is, one in which two people have the right to use the word “love” — 
is a process, delicate, violent, often terrifying to both persons involved, 
a process of refining the truths they can tell each other.

It is important to do this,
because it breaks down human self-delusion and isolation.

It is important to do this, 
because in doing so we do justice to our own complexity.

What does it mean, 
to lead inside-out?

It means to lead consciously,
from a place of depth,
and awareness.

It means to lead powerfully,
making bold commitments to others,
and following through.

It means pulling the log from your own eye,
before removing a splinter,
from the eye of another.

The inside-out leader leads from the heart. ❤️

And with that,
the year is begun.

This past Saturday, 
many members of the cocreation.loft gathered.

We had a General Meeting,
which takes place just a handful of times per year.

It is an opportunity for us
to commune,
collaborate,
and co-create around what is most alive.

This being the beginning of the year,
two things felt most alive:

1. Connecting with the core of what makes the Loft so special,

and

2. Dreaming together what we could create in 2026. 

So that's what we did.

And it was a genuinely beautiful, soulful evening.

I find that I have fewer words these days,
to describe the things that matter to me. 

It feels more appropriate to sing a song,
or do an interpretive dance,
because words just don't do justice,
to what this place means to me.

What I do know is that it is a special community.

We co-work, and collaborate, and do life together.

It feels like the best of what I've experienced in spiritual communities,
but with a deep thread of common alignment between members -

the wish to co-create a more conscious society through our work. 

As a coach, facilitator,
and weirdo who's lived 100 years in the future since he was a kid,
being able to go somewhere each day and feel SEEN and VALUED,
is worth its weight in gold.

It has supercharged my business endeavors,
deepened my inner work practices,
and most importantly - brought me great joy. 

Joy in this work is so important.

It can feel heavy when we think about the state of the world,
and the rampant disconnection, fragmentation, and polarization,
of our current moment. 

But being at the Loft - it gives me hope.

Because I see every day how hard these souls work -

inside themselves,
in their relationships,
and in their work,
to bring change into the world that is desperately needed.

And I know there are many more of us out there.

Working to bring light into darkness.

One connection at a time.

Your value is innate,
not tied to your work.

You have inherent dignity and worth.

You - just being you,
not because of the numbers in your accounts,
are enough.

Now, let me make a prediction.

A Part of you just yelled, “BULLSHIT!”

Or the German equivalent.
Maybe the Spanish equivalent.

Ask that Part to step back for a second, gently.

Hear this.

We live in a global system that ties our worth,
to our economic value.

The World Economic Forum in Davos
is winding to an end,
and we’ve heard much from world leaders
about various states of affairs.

Including one very orange world leader,
who so blatantly ties his self-worth to power-as-possession,
that the only thing that will satisfy his endless need,
is a literal re-drawing of the map to represent his power.

“Look, Daddy.
Look how much I have.
Look how big and powerful I am.
Will you love me now?”

Hang in there, Greenland.

In this global system,
human beings are resources.

We skill, and upskill.
We polish our resumes.

We learn to regulate our nervous systems,
to stay calm in systems made to de-humanize us -
only to toss us to the side as soon as we become “redundant”.

No, my friends, breathwork won’t save us.
Neither will more leadership training.

Or God forbid, another LinkedIn Live about resume writing.

These systems and structures must crumble.
Decompose, like dead leaves in the fall.

New patterns and structures must emerge,
like new grass breaking up through the concrete.

In these new patterns and structures,
the human being is inherently dignified.

Worthy of care, love, and belonging -
simply because they exist.

In these new patterns and structures,
work is an expression of vocation,
innate purpose,
not just a means to pay the mortgage
and keep up with implicit cultural expectations.

In these new patterns and structures,
human beings belong to each other,
and they create together like children,
dreaming and making new, beautiful worlds.

This is not a fantasy.

We are birthing these new worlds now.

It’s only a matter of time before they come into being.

Some are already here.

A story.

One client of mine told me about a care-giving figure,
they loved dearly.

This person did what good Americans do -
40 year career,
mortgage,
a few marriages,
retirement.

Two weeks after retirement - bam.

Heart attack.
Gone.

Just a big number sitting in a 401K fund,
and a devastated family wishing for more time.

A life deferred until - when?

They were valuable enough?
Extracted from enough?

What happened to the dreams they had,
that never came into being?

The love that could have been shared?

Is that the kind of life we want for each other?
Our sons and daughters?

No.

No more.

No more.
