Last week was a rough one and one of firsts. The next few may be some of the hardest. 

Before getting into what happened I want to say a big thank you to my family, friends, clients, colleagues and the medical staff.

I’m so lucky and very grateful for my family. Especially my wife Joanna. I don’t even have words that can describe my appreciation and love for you. This wasn’t the plan and I don’t know what’s ahead but thank you for being there, to support and take care of me.  I love you. ❤️

To the medical personal starting from the 911 call and ambulance crew to all the nurses, hospital staff, doctors, and Dr. Nicole Stevens, at Winthrop Hospital thank you for your care, concern, communication, and support. You patched me up and while I know there is a lot left to go, you made me feel like I was the only patient in your care. For that I thank you.

Onto what happened…

I broke my leg Tuesday night, had surgery to repair it on Wednesday, sent home on Thursday.

I broke my tibia in multiple spots and they inserted a titanium rod through it so it would heal correctly. With some additional screws in my ankle and knee, I’m now to be completely off my feet for the next couple of weeks. After that, I imagine some physical therapy, lots of pain, and ups and downs. 

Never thought I’d find myself at 48 on crutches for the first time or having major surgery. I guess no one at any age does. But I truly am lucky for the ones around me who love and support me. I’m forever in your debt and will never forget all you have done for me and my family.

I just got off my second customer onboarding call for Trckly, and I'm still shaking a little.

Not from nerves (okay, maybe a little). But from validation.

It's been 15+ years since I released any kind of software. Back then, "customer insights" meant scribbled notes and gut feelings. 

Now? 

I'm using Cursor and Claude Code to analyze call transcripts, pull exact quotes, uncover patterns I missed in the moment, and organize everything right in my codebase.

The best part? These insights live where I build.

Customer pain points → feature requests. 
Exact quotes → marketing copy. 
Workflow patterns → onboarding improvements.

All accessible while I'm literally writing the code.

Is this what modern product development feels like? Because I'm not going back.

More calls scheduled. Still early. Still learning.

But this time, every conversation makes the product better...not just my notes (and whatever I may remember 🤪).

As Director, I was tasked with taking the Cape Town arm of TouchBasePro and establishing a resounding footprint in Africa and abroad.

My focus was on strategic growth, operations, new region penetration, team and organisational leadership, partner and key stakeholder engagement and growth of the brand.

Another vital function of this position was as the key customer service liaison and champion, ensuring sound strategic guidance for customers and application of digital and industry best-practice advice to an array of corporate and commercial entities, and SMEs.

So, what do I actually do, you may ask? By day, my official role is Commercial Lead at Prebo Digital. We're one of Africa's premier digital performance agencies, where our team of experts and I help companies in various industries, both B2B and B2C, create returns from their paid media, SEO, marketplace advertising, and conversion-rate enhancement.

My role in the organisation is to lead and solve problems for our team and customers while looking after client relationships, both locally and internationally. We do this by providing expert digital strategy and guidance, helping brands and businesses solve problems in creating measurable returns on their digital marketing.

In addition, I also ensure the company reaches its revenue and expansion goals by opening doors with partners and clients, along with strategically assisting in the company's marketing and vision. This all leads to Prebo Digital's growth and my getting paid to do what I'm (pretty) good at.

By night...though I'd love to call myself the Batman- I help businesses and content creators make the most out of their email learning and communication. Having been in the digital and marketing space for more than 13 years, and having studied my marketing BBA, I put my skills to use by helping businesses and content creators with email advice, strategy and resources designed to help them grow.
