There's something about a good founder dinner.

Last night was one of those. Only a handful of people in the room. The conversation was one of the best I've had in a while. A mix of exited founders, someone about to close an 8-figure seed round, another who joined a startup at seed stage and drove it to a $400m + valuation before starting his own thing, people from HSBC Innovation Banking supporting the ecosystem, a few others in stealth.

What I loved most: it was one of the few rooms where I didn't feel the need to self-deprecate. Talking about big ambitions and scale felt normal, not out of place. That's rare in the UK.

The conversation that stuck: why does the UK offer so much less breathing room for entrepreneurs to start, scale, stumble, and then succeed?

I remember my school having adverts at local train stations showing a split screen. A kid studying hard then the same person a decade or so later working in middle management. Caption: "A Stable Future." Nobody put up a poster of someone who built something from nothing.

The US has produced over 800 unicorns. The UK has approximately 55. The US is only 4.8x bigger by population. So what explains the rest of that gap?

The American Dream is a real cultural force. The British equivalent is... "don't get too big for your boots."

Within 2 years, Dwelly has reached the top 15. 

Huge congrats to Dan, Ilia and the team on their $93M raise. It's been great seeing the company grow. Dwelly is a textbook AI-enabled roll-up: acquire independent property agencies, integrate their best-in-class AI operating system, and deliver a service the incumbents simply cannot match.

The results speak for themselves. Maintenance resolution times cut from 50 days to 20. Time to find a tenant down from three weeks to under two. An average of 10 validated offers per property where a traditional agency might generate one or two.

It’s the morning after the two days of Reset Connect North and I am knackered! 

So many amazing conversations and moments but here a few where I had to pinch myself to make sure they where real:

1. My talk on “The innovation gap in sustainability teams” was several lines deep standing room only. Which was pretty awesome!

2. Two (yes two) unicorn companies told us that the Virtual Impact Team was amazing and we are arranging follow ups because we can “help” them… Us!! Little Ltt Group Limited  can really help them.

3. Our new tech partner Vizibli amazed everybody. They all saw what we know. It is going to change the carbon calc world FOREVER!! 

4. We got selected to pitch VIT to a panel of investors. And although we came 2nd we are incredibly proud of the feedback by the likes of Patric Wong, EMBA FCA and getting beat by Jimmy Cockerton and the guys at Impact Advantage is nothing to be ashamed of! We are so proud!

Tomorrow, I and about 600 other men will be taking part in a Men’s Charity Walk for Dorothy House, an amazing hospice near Bath. 

Dot House does incredible work and every penny raised goes to helping people with end of life care. 

We’re always advised to talk about men’s health, both physical and mental. Which we do. For a few minutes. 

It’s a great time to walk and talk with It’s a great time to walk and talk with friends, watch rugby and drink beer.

In March I'll be taking part in the 2026 Men's Walk to Support Dorothy House - an incredible local hospice. 

£11 could fund a nurse's time speaking on our telephone Advice Line - reassuring, advising, and guiding patients, families, and health care professionals.

£78 could fund an expert counsellor to run a support group session for young adults with a life-limiting illness, helping them feel less alone.

£218 could fund a compassionate, skilled and experienced Hospice at Home Carer to provide care overnight, enabling a patient to stay at home at the end of their life.

I just applied sustainability lens to this famous chart by Anthropic. Let's break it down.

The gap between capability and adoption is massive.

22 activities. Based on what I'm actually seeing in enterprise programs, not what vendors are pitching at conferences.

Here is what the data shows.

The operational layer is already being transformed:
ESG data collection and aggregation
Carbon accounting and GHG reporting
Sustainability report generation
Compliance monitoring
Energy management

Data-heavy, rule-based, repetitive. 

But then you look at the strategic layer and it's a completely different picture:

ESG strategy and materiality assessment
Sustainability governance and accountability
Just transition planning
Biodiversity and nature assessment
Impact measurement and valuation
Sustainability culture and change management

Close to zero adoption.
And this is not because AI can't do it.

The models are already capable. The technology is there.

What's missing is organizational readiness.

Because moving into these layers means:

redesigning who makes sustainability decisions and how → embedding AI into governance and board oversight → connecting sustainability KPIs to real accountability → leading cultural transformation, not deploying another tool.

S&P Global found only 30% of companies use AI for sustainability. Just 21% measure its impact.

BSR interviewed sustainability teams last year. Most leaders expect AI to change everything. Very few feel they have the skills to make it happen.
And here is what makes it even more striking.

Anthropic's research shows that business and finance (exactly where corporate sustainability sits) have 94% theoretical AI task coverage.

The next wave of AI in sustainability won't come from better models.

It will come from leaders willing to rethink how sustainability actually works.

So here is my question: Is AI transforming the operational side of your sustainability work while the strategic layer stays untouched?
