WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT: 1st Clay Table to get an old dog ADOPTED.

Two things happened yesterday: 1. I saw a few Clay World Records and... 

2. Crissy was messaging me about adopting a dog from Mutville (a dog rescue for old dogs in San Francisco). 

With two young kids and a 13 year old dog in the house we can't take on any more. Unfortunately. 

So we had an idea.... Can we create a Clay table to help get Strength (a 16 year old Shih Tzu at Muttville) adopted?

The table:

• Finds people in the local area who are into fostering and adopting dogs
• Builds a Google maps link to give them directions on how to get to Muttville from where they are located 
• Uses AI to draft an email based on their Linkedin profile and Strength's profile, and includes the link they can click to drive right there

And because Clay can almost do anything... it WORKED.

And if you are into adopting dogs Strength is still available. And a good boy.

I still need convincing that mailbox rotation for outbound email is a good thing. 

I get the supposed benefits. But call me old-fashioned: if you have to constantly switch the email domain you are sending from to send mass unsolicited emails and avoid being sent to spam......

.....aren't you by definition spamming people?

And isn't spamming people... bad? 

Now, to be clear, I am not against smart outbound. But does truly smart outbound need mailbox rotation to be successful? 

Surely part of smart outbound is sending messages so good people are ok receiving them. Therefore the recipient doesn't mark as spam, they reply, and therefore the sending domain reputation is good so you don't need burner domains to kill off after the domain gets blocked by Gmail. 

Smartlead literally says on their website:

"Scale your cold outreach without worrying about daily limits or email reputation." 

But isn't the whole point of "daily limits and email reputation" is to protect  users from being drowned in spam?

Isn't this like is like saying: 

"Drive to work quicker without worrying about speeding limits through school zones and driving intoxicated." 

Yes, great... you are getting to work quicker, but that is only good for you, it's ruining the experience for other people, and you'll probably get burned eventually. 

All that said, I am open minded enough to change my opinion here if there is a honest reason why you'd do this. So let me know where I am wrong.

I talk a lot about "fixing your GTM foundation" BEFORE going deep with AI. 

That's vague. So here's 3 things to get sorted now to be AI ready:

(1) Inbound / Hand Raiser Process  

The handrasier data flowing through your tools (signals, Leads/Contacts/Accounts, etc) needs to go through certain steps in a certain order. 

Data collection (signals, forms fills, etc) > enrichment > tagging (e.g. source data, attribution data, etc) > data cleaning (i.e. normalization) > scoring > sales hand off > routing 

If the order is wrong or pieces are missing, you end up with crappy data, buyers not getting to sales in time, sales not knowing what the hell to do, no data for reporting, etc. 

(2) Sales process & stages 

An obvious one, but you'd be surprised at how many companies have an adhoc sales process. No definitions, people going rogue, no SLAs, etc. 

Sales have 100 tabs open and no idea what to do next. 

Get the process and stages locked in. Don't forget pre-opportunity stages (happens all the time). 

Build a repeatable process to get buyers/signals into the hands of sales > sales start working them > creating opportunities the right way > moving through opp stages > won. 

(3) Track your GTM buying stages properly

Some call this lifecycle reporting, funnel reporting, sales stage reporting. We call it the Unified GTM Data model. 

Whatever you call it, it's tracking:

• The buyers sent to sales or signals sales are outbounding to

• Where the buyers came from (channels, campaigns, gtm motions)

• What happened since (recycled, DQ, progressed into Opps, won, etc)

• Conversation, velocity, and volume for all the stages 

• For ALL GTM motions (inbound, outbound, partner, PLG, account-based, customer expansion)

Preferably track this on a custom object in your CRM and not on Leads/Contacts so you get reliable data and make reporting plug and play. Also track the Account stages, not just Contacts. 

Do all this and your AI work will be much, much easier and have a higher likelihood of working out. 

Don't do it and you'll carry on living in chaos with or without AI.
