AI will kill the messy middle, not all SaaS.

I got tired of Webflow and used Codex to replace it.

AI won’t kill the SaaS model. OpenAI itself famously runs on Slack. There’s simply no point in rebuilding key apps your entire workflow depends on with vibe coding. You will be just wasting resources. 

But not all apps are essential. I believe two sides of the spectrum are safe:
— Simple tools that solve a specific problem and don’t cost much
— Expensive tools that act as your system of record (chats, CRM, ERP, etc)

It’s the messy middle that has to be worried.

I loved Webflow so much when an agency built our new website in it. Before this, I managed a WordPress website. Cheap to run. Easy to change the content that was designed to be changeable. But as soon as you want to adjust anything else you have to spend days or hire that agency again (great business model for them, honestly).

Webflow changed everything. It was simple and visual, but far more open and functional than tools like Squarespace. Not only was it easy to add content, but I was able to create a blog, change multiple pages, and embed a sign-up form myself.  

But over the past year, I had grown increasingly annoyed with it. Webflow is expensive and getting even more expensive. The editor is quick enough, but the CMS part is extremely slow and laggy. The website was missing the latest content from us because it just didn't feel good to admin. 

So this weekend I fired up Codex and asked it to download our entire Webflow instance content and rebuild it on a modern and portable tech stack. 

After an hour of polishing, our new website is now built on Astro and running on Vercel. And if I want to change anything or add content, I can just ask the agent.

Webflow has become that messy middle. If you want a quick website, there are fully managed platforms that suffice: Substack, Beehiiv, Ghost, Shopify, etc. 

And if you want your own thing, you can just build it with AI. Who’s going to be technical enough to use Webflow and build entire pages from scratch, but not technical enough to use Claude Code or Codex?

That market will probably shrink into nothing.
