I love starting businesses but I'm not good at running them, so I find partners who love running and growing businesses but don't love the risk of starting them. This allowed me to create Pando Partners, a holding company where I can do what I truly love, which is to start businesses, see them succeed, and see individuals learn and grow within those businesses as they maximize their potential. Right now, my primary project is MWI, the marketing agency I started in 1999. I recently bought out my partners there after 10 years and find myself back in the driver seat. However, there are a lot of other projects up and running or in early stages.

Originally from LA, I lived in Utah from '98-'13, then moved to Hong Kong, and then to Shenzhen, China in 2016. In Jan, 2019, I moved to Boston, where my family and I lived on a farm with 21 horses, 3 guinea pigs, and 1 dog, before moving to Arizona in 2021, without the horses. 😥

This position is open to U.S.-based candidates only. 

The role is dedicated to a single client, a psychiatric hospital group with over a dozen locations. Each location is a separate client, with a separate contact, but they all do the same things. 

This matters: You've done actual digital marketing work. SEO, paid search, web development, social, something hands-on. You know what the work requires because you've done it. 

Must have: We don't wait for clients to ask us for things. The right AM builds a plan, drives it forward, and makes the client feel like everything is always in motion. If your default is to wait for direction, this is not the right fit.

Nice to have: Experience in healthcare, psychiatric, or related space. Account management for multi-location clients. Marketing agency background.

What you will do: Serve as the primary client contact. Manage projects and timelines across SEO, PPC, dev, and social teams. Own reporting, QA, and client communication. Build plans with the client and execute them.

Working at MWI: Remote (work from home). 4-day work week, Mon-Thu. 10 days paid vacation, plus all the normal holidays, plus Dec 24-Jan 01. We work hard but we're also super flexible. 401K matching. Health/vision/dental. Small team where everyone pulls their weight and gets along well together. International exposure (we have an office in Hong Kong). Salary competitive, based on experience/fit.

Jason Alba and I have been talking about business books lately, recording conversations for his new HR platform, and he keeps asking the same question: how do you help your team actually implement what these books teach?

Every time he asks, I try to come up with something clever. I always land on the same answer. Just talk to them.

We spend enormous time on employee manuals, training programs, and presentations when a 15-minute conversation might accomplish more. And we'd probably learn as much as we'd teach.

This morning I got a newsletter from 📈Ben Ward about being passionate about your team members' goals, not your own. I realized I had only a vague idea of what most of my team members actually want. So I sent each of them a quick, individualized email asking about their goals. About a minute apiece to write.
Worst case, nothing changes but they know I care. Best case, what I learn shifts how I run things.

Some questions worth sitting with:

- How well do I actually know my team members? 
- What are their goals, and do they align with where we're headed? 
- How motivated are they to achieve what we're working toward?

Only you can find the answers to those. But "how beneficial would it be to know?" and "how do I find out?" are easy: very, and just ask them.
