What's up! I'm Josh 👋

I've been a builder my whole life. In grade school, I made board games to play with my friends. In high school, I wrote short stories and a novel. I've drawn and painted since before I can remember.

14 years ago, I founded my first startup, raised funding, hired engineers, and brought my vision to market. This ignited my passion for tech.

Next, I managed a team of 36 engineers at a publicly traded SaaS company. 

Since then, I've started 3 other companies and led teams in product management, enterprise customer success, and sales. I built 3 GTM motions from the ground up and led Lavender to $1 million ARR + their series A before striking out on my own as a fractional operator and advisor.

I dream of creating new technology that changes the world, together with my friends and network.

Really smart take by Adam. I've been saying for at least 3 years and will firmly stand by this: The whole internet is going to a voice interface (aside from gaming and one other thing that people do online...). Voice is the primary way humans communicate with each other. It's the natural fit for us. We will command AI agents verbally, and they will do the tasks. This goes for our personal lives and work lives.

After that will be neural interfaces. Yes, they're inevitable. 

As voice interfaces get better at making workflows, then GTMEs will feel the same squeeze from AI that every other role is feeling. The great GTMEs will be paid way more, and the rest will lose their jobs. That's also inevitable. 

I talk a lot about AI SDRs and GTM engineering (when used for outbound) being the same thing, except one is done by AI and the other is done by humans. And I say a lot that they're in the process of converging. That'll eventually happen across all applications of GTM engineering. The first mainstream applications of GTME are the first to go (outbound, enrichment, etc), and the rest will follow. It's all part of the same AI trend.

On Clay’s $100M milestone.

I’ve worked in GTM tech for 15+ years. Never seen such a unique and disruptive company. 

Every other GTM vendor pitch is now met with a response like: 

“Ok, but can’t we build this in Clay?”

It’s a different verb. 

We *build* in Clay. We *use* our other GTM tech tools. 

As a founder, I'm watching their community flywheel. They created a movement around "GTM Engineering" that feeds itself.

As Keyplay CEO, I'm navigating the frenemy line. We integrate. They could displace us. We must be excellent in our niche.

As they run toward $500M, here's what I'm curious to follow:

1.) How does ZoomInfo respond?
-- Clay is broadly disruptive, but especially to ZI. 
-- Opposite approaches. ZI owns data. Clay orchestrates a network.
-- ZI takes the blame if 1 field out of 100M is wrong. Clay's off the hook.
-- But ZI has control. They can invest $ to make data reliable.
-- If ZI makes data ownership an undeniable advantage (instead of a liability) for the AI era, that's a counterpunch.
-- This is a battle for mindshare. Clay is winning today.

2.) Beyond Enrichment? 
-- Clay is loved for enrichment. Now they do signals, sequencing, audience management. 
-- It's getting more "solution-y" vs the core. 
-- Smart for Enterprise consolidation. But high bar.
-- The friendly people from Brooklyn now look hyper aggressive vs Gong, Outreach, 6sense, and probably more coming.
-- Will customers love Clay as the ultimate consolidator?

3.) GTM Engineers or AI Agents? 
-- The GTM Engineering movement is a good bet right now. AI and GTM data is too complex for business users.
 -- But easy to see a world where business users work with AI Agents instead of GTM Engineers.
-- Clay's "Sculptor" does this. Workflows with a prompt.
-- If the UX becomes "talk to an agent," how do GTMEs shift?
-- Do business users adopt? Do power users move to n8n, Claude Code, whatever comes next?

I won't try to predict anything.

I wish something like Superhuman mail existed for managing my LinkedIn message inbox.

It's gotten kind of crazy and the experience is so cumbersome, I don't even read all my messages anymore. It's become impossible.

Technically, I don't think it's even *possible* for someone to build such an app, because LinkedIn doesn't have APIs for that. [sad face]. 

Yes, I know there are some tools implemented as a Chrome Extension, but I find that approach to be brittle and has its own risks if LinkedIn detects "automated activity".

My latest toxic opinion is that AI started using the em dash so much because the em dash is a uniquely superior punctuation mark—the best at conveying complex thoughts-within-thoughts—and the only reason the em dash has a stigma now is because most of you aren’t good enough writers to have recognized its value and used it before AI did. So now you see it as new, superfluous, and annoying—just another symbol of AI frivolousness—instead of the useful literary tool that it is.

I spent Christmas in Ukraine.

So they lit a computer on fire and chugged hot sauce before making a cold call.

Sellers and leaders are desperate for warmer leads, but there are better ways to do that than being so literal.

Your network is full of warm leads and warm intros that you're most likely unaware of and underutilizing. Low hanging fruit, right there for the taking.
