The Thinking Jew Podcast

The Thinking Jew Podcast opens your eyes to a deeper side of Jewish learning.  Many people are familiar with certain traditions, practices or holidays but don't really know much about WHY we do them?  The Thinking Jew Podcast provides those answers.

Each episode is 10-15 minutes and starts with analyzing the source in the Torah.  I then explain the practical elements of the topic and provide a philosphical or kabbalistic understanding as well.  The sources quoted in each episode are linked in the episode details.

DATA of Richardson (Dor L'Dor)

The Jewish community in Richardson (DATA of Richardson or Dor L’Dor) was founded provide an affordable community to all Jewish families.   

As real estate prices kept rising in the existent Jewish community, many of our couples could not afford a home and were buying elsewhere.  

To provide them with the opportunity to raise a family in a Jewish community, we opened a new community in a more affordable part of DFW, where Jews of all backgrounds can feel comfortable raising a family.

Responsibilities:
• Led vision, strategy, and execution in all aspects of setting up a new Jewish community in Richardson, TX.  
• Engaged with members of the Richardson city council and Oncor to create necessary communal infrastructure (zoning the synagogue and building an eruv).  
• Created and ran meaningful Jewish programming to engage all members of the community.  
• Led the community of YJCs in their spiritual and life journey as a communal Rabbi, including counseling, life-cycle events, public speaking and leading services.  
• Developed and balanced organizational budget.

Founder

Young Jewish Couples (YJC)

YJC is a social network of Young Jewish Couples from diverse backgrounds and affiliations that got together to enhance their Jewish journey.  Through engaging programming, such as weekend relationship-building retreats, couples game nights, Torah study, counseling and more, along with the warm and accepting leadership, many couples have found their Jewish home in YJC.

Responsibilities:
• Creating, developing and running programming, including: game nights, getaway shabbatons, classes, social events, holiday parties etc.
• Research and setup of ideal platform for fundraising
• Creating promotional videos, flyers, email templates for fundraisers and general events 
• Wrote songs for organizational dinners and weekend retreats 
• Developing relationships with YJCs to guide couples in this important stage of life and to build the greater YJC community

Director and Rabbi

Dallas Area Torah Association (DATA) 

I studied in the mornings and afternoons with peers to uncover the theoretical and practical side of the ancient Jewish wisdom in the Talmud and its commentaries.  During lunches, evening and weekends, I engaged with Jews of all backgrounds and affiliations to deepen their connection with their Jewish heritage through a combination of studying, programs, shabbos meals and more.

I helped out with any tech issues that arose internally.  Specifically, fixing the website when there were issues, upgrading the website to allow for continued donations and updating organizational information.  I also assisted in general operations, specifically: seating, scheduling and various parts of entertainment at DATA's dinner and weekend retreats.

Jewish Medical Ethics Dallas (JMED)

JMED is a social network of doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals that got together monthly to discuss the Jewish perspective on various bioethical dilemmas.

I created JMED to inspire medical professionals to share ideas and to explore the Torah's perspective in their field.  

Responsibilities:
• Organized monthly meetups, including finding a host, arranging food and recruiting attendees. 
• Researched modern medical ethics topics extensively in both Jewish and secular sources, and then presented it and led a conversation of the Torah’s viewpoints with the participant doctors. 
•Followed up with attendees, developing a relationship and continuing learning with them beyond the monthly meeting

Topic included: Abortion, Alternative Medicine, Artificial Insemination, Decision Making For Minors, Forcing Life Saving Therapy, Quarantine, Risk-Taking In Saving Lives, Physician Assisted Suicide, Vaccination and more
