This is by far my best-performing cold email subject line.

It also gets the most responses.

Via {Name}.

When I sold into HR, I didn’t start with people at the top.

I started with the ones doing the work.

During those conversations, I’d ask,
“Would it be okay if I mentioned your name when I reach out to {Scott}?”

If they said yes, I’d include their name in the subject line:

Via Kim.

And my first sentence was simple:
“Kim suggested I contact you regarding FSA participation.”

Doors at the top open more easily
when someone below has already welcomed you in.

I never planned to ghostwrite for B2B tech leaders.

15 months ago, I was still finding my voice on here, testing my offer, learning prompts, and shipping GTM automations.

Now I spend most of my days helping offshore leaders tell their story to U.S. buyers.

Living between both worlds made one thing clear:

Most of us in the B2B service game know what’s broken in our GTM — but we still cling to it.

You can see it everywhere.

It’s Q4-25, and we’re still clinging to playbooks that died in the U.S. years ago.

We love to say we’re “client-obsessed.”

But too often, our offers sound generic, our timelines blur, and our content stays surface-level.

Here's a quick test:

If a buyer read your last few posts, would they feel you were talking to them?

What hard, useful, ungated thing do you give them?

That's why when I write for founders, I ignore impressions and opt-ins.

I ask one thing:

Did this piece give my buyer something they can use or think about today?

A shortcut that feels like a cheat code.
A tool that helps them move faster or look sharper.
A process breakdown. A hard lesson. A take.

That’s the bar.

And in the U.S. market, where even a “casual catchup” means biz talk, your words matter.

So stop hiding behind weak lines like "cultural affinity", "timezone overlap", "top 1% talent", or "battle-tested processes"— seriously, what does that even mean? 🙄

Those are not differentiators.

It's what you do for your buyers that sets you apart.

Share what you would use yourself.

Two months to 2026, and SDRs in offshore engineering services still chase volume — for the sake of it.

Canned automations.
Large contact lists.
Pricey app trials.

They look good on a slide, yet they distract from what matters.

A couple of months ago, I joined a focus group with a team of SDRs.

The topic? Infrastructure review — data cleanup, enrichment, signals, scoring.

In other words, a 2026 wishlist.

Why?

Because to them, the reason for tanked conversions lay in: fragmented data, duplicates, messy normalization, weak account intel, disconnected databases.

So the answer naturally drifted toward “more integrated software.”

But here’s the thing.

More tools won’t fix a fuzzy niche or an irrelevant story.

That’s the real issue.

Take LinkedIn Sales Navigator, for example. It lets you get specific.

Think of a dartboard: stand closer and your odds go up.

And since inboxes are flooded, smaller and sharper wins.

Tight filters:

- mutual ties
- recent hires
- geo-proximity
- shared interests
- latest activity
- sub-niches
- job tenure

They all give you real talking points, not surface-level lines.

That’s why being super-selective is the play.

Not: “CTOs in auto insurance.”

This: “CTOs in usage-based insurance balancing cyber risk, compliance, and AI model governance across telematics.”

The goal is focus → a shortlist with clear common ground.

Small lists change how you work:

- You sound more human.
- You research deeper.
- You nail your offer.
- You DM way less.

And your follow-ups feel natural, not lazy or robotic.

Here’s a simple two-week test:

1- Pick one tight segment you know you can help. Clarify the offer. Back your claim.

2- Build 50–75 names a week with a clear reason to contact each person.

3- Write short, specific outreach that shows you did the reading. Trim the fluff. Name the problem. Share a grounded opinion.

4- Ask a thoughtful question or toss a hypothesis grounded in research. Use soft language to suggest a next step.

If you’re wrong, they’ll correct you.
If you’re right, you earn credibility.

Either way, you learn.
And that’s the win.

Big numbers impress bosses. Small lists impress buyers.

Which matters more in the AI age: slick tools or stronger sales roots?

Thursday night reflection—after clearing heaps of noise in my LinkedIn inbox.

Same painfully obvious pattern, over and over.

Fellow sellers → if you won’t spend 5-10 minutes learning about someone who can actually greenlight a high-value deal, don’t expect five seconds on your message.

As overused as it sounds, this is about them. So protect their time.

Do the basics:

- Read their profile.
- Scan their latest activity.
- Guess what they might be after.

Then write one clear line that ties your point to their world.

And end with one thoughtful question.

Nobody cares about your proof if you can’t connect the dots.

Short. Human. Specific. Easy to reply.

That’s the bar.

Wild how many sellers in B2B still miss the basics.

Here's a quick test...

- Pull your last three 1st DMs to prospects.
- If you were on the receiving end, would you bother replying? Be honest.

Slow down, give a sh*t, keep it real.

And watch replies bounce back.
