• Helped accrue insights drawn from consumer behaviour by carrying out keyword research;
• Research and wrote original copy;
• Optimised websites and content;

• Analysed the performance of content marketing campaigns, and much more.

I left after 4 months because it simply was not the right fit for me (nothing against the company or the people). I'm now looking for a role with more creative freedom and writing responsibilities.

The role consisted of:
- Promoting the benefits of placement and study abroad;

- Presenting to stage one and two students in-person and online.

I spent my year in the industry with IBM, where I was responsible for external relations, IBMer communications and executive communications in the UK and Ireland to achieve our business objectives. 

Some achievements included:
- Coordinated social media content for the UKI IBM Twitter page.
- Founded LinkMe 'Mini' (an internal newsletter) for the IBM Slack channels.
- Mentored a handful of trainees in their short times at IBM.
- Authored press releases for our external UK Newsroom (linked below is one example).
- Pitched IBM stories to the biggest global news websites.

I achieved three 'Exceeds' out of  five dimensions in my 12-month-review; Business Results, Client Success, and Skills.

The one non-negotiable for career success:

Being easy to work with.

Reading the quote back, it actually sounds counterintuitive.

Shouldn't you just focus on your own growth to succeed?
Be a little selfish so-and-so?

Alas, I've learned that the opposite is true.
When you help other people, they help you.

Especially if that person is one or two steps ahead of you!

I started applying this principle by:

→ Sharing value publicly on LinkedIn.
→ Offering help for free in my network.
→ Doing my utmost to help my colleagues.

The results of that have been genuinely outsized.

Especially that first point. 

I help others publicly, and in return, I have built trust.

The great part is, it doesn't need to be grand gestures!

Small (but consistent) acts of generosity is the key:

✅ Comment on someone's post when it deserves more eyes
✅ Make that warm intro without financial compensation
✅ Give credit loudly and critical feedback in private
✅ Teach what you know without gatekeeping

The compound effect is extraordinary.

It's built me almost 86k followers and a world-class network.
(All in 18 months, starting from scratch)

Start thinking of other people's success as your success.

It creates a beautiful flywheel of growth.

7 Japanese Concepts That Will Transform How You Work:

(And how you can implement them)

If you didn't know already, I'm a big fan of Japanese culture.
Their way of thinking completely contrasts with the west.

I personally have learnt a lot from it, and I think you can too.

These 7 concepts will change/improve the way you work:

1. Ikigai (生きがい) i.e. "your reason for being"
↳ What you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for.

(Find that intersection and chase after it!)

2. Kaizen (改善)
↳ The concept of becoming 1% better each day.
↳ Set small goals that add up over time.

3. Shoshin (初心)
↳ See every day as an opportunity to learn something new.
↳ Challenge established processes with new thinking.

4. Wabi-Sabi (侘寂)
↳ Accept that beauty is found in the imperfections.
↳ Don't hold onto the idea of perfection. Embrace mistakes.

5. Gaman (我慢)
↳ Keep calm in moments of distress and use total clarity.
↳ Take a moment to yourself before reacting to anything.

6. Oubaitori (桜梅桃李)
↳ Not comparing yourself to others.
↳ Realise that progress and careers are not linear.

7. Omotenashi (おもてなし)
↳ Treat everyone the way you want to be treated.
↳ Commit daily acts of genuine kindness.

Most of these, I'm sure, feel like common sense.
Even so, I don't think we stick to those principles enough.

For me personally, an Ikigai had a profound impact.
On my life and on my career.

It took me down a path to copywriting, and led me to where I am today!

There's a set of life rules that we never get taught. 

But winners use them every day...

It's quite easy in our careers to follow bad habits.
And not spend time investing in some of the good ones.

Alas, those who win in life - they play by a different ruleset.

Whether they realise it or not, they live by certain laws.

These are the ones that the top 1% follow ruthlessly:

1. The North Star Principle
↳ First and foremost, know where you're going.
↳ It's easier to achieve your goals with a clear vision.

2. Parkinson's Law
↳ "Work expands to fill the time available for its completion."
↳ Therefore, you need to set aggressive deadlines.

3. The Law Of Diminishing Returns
↳ More effort sometimes means even less returns.
↳ Learn to stop when effort no longer means reward.

4. The Peter Principle
↳ "In a hierarchy, people rise to their level of incompetence."
↳ Keep learning. Titles do not equal capability.

5. Pareto Principle (80/20 Rule)
↳ 80% of outcomes come from 20% of inputs.
↳ Focus on the 20% of actions that create the most value.

6. Gall's Law
↳ Complexity comes needlessly from simplicity.
↳ Start simple and embrace MVP-first thinking.

7. The Principle Of Least Effort (Zipf's Law)
↳ People will choose the path of least resistance.
↳ Design things that have little to no friction.

8. Goodhart's Law
↳ Don't simply chase after a KPI.
↳ Focus on the real value add behind them.

People don't shout about these laws.
But successful people follow them to a tee!
