The main goal of copywriting is conversion and sales. Knowing the fundamentals is important to do that,  and not just slapping words onto a screen because they "feel right". There's methods out there. Studies. Psychology at work, tons of templates, structures, and methods, that work time and time again. Especially in B2B and SaaS.

I didn't go in half arsed. I wanted to make sure I GOT this, to not be a fraud who thinks they're God's next gift in the copywriting world. I needed to know the rules, what worked, and have it told by people that bring in millions in their lifetime. 

And that's what I did. I understand that the first time might not work. But I understand that with a bit more refining. A bit more optimization. Some A/B testing. Incredibly deep research that almost seems obvious...

It all amounts to your money being made back, or I'll eat my hat.

Unique Prototypes

Ken, the founder and CEO, hired an agency to build his website. However, the agency couldn't build anything without copy. So Ken found me.

He had a tight deadline, but was a nice guy, so I accommodated. Within 2 weeks, I came up with copy for his entire website, making sure the fundamentals were there, being multiple CTAs, contact details in the header, and including everything he wanted to include. 

Check the home page document below for an example of how I pulled this off. His site isn't live right now, but once it is, I'll update this experience.

Not many bells and whistles here. Simple 500 word piece, expectations were met.

One of my first jobs on Upwork, I approached Teresa to write landing page copy for a tool called Share2Get, for upto11.

Applying all copywriting fundamentals, I aimed for simplicity and clear messaging, due to this tool being quite the unknown in this industry. Not entirely unknown as similar tools have been made in the past, but this tool was a more modern approach to previous efforts.

The goal was not to confuse the prospect, and to avoid confusing jargon. Things that are viewed as a relative unknown, invite more risk assessments, so it was my aim to make the copy as clear as possible to alleviate that. 

The final landing page copy was changed from my original submission and I had no opportunity to A/B test, but if what's currently up is getting them results, then I wish them well.

Kudiwave

Kudiwave was an interesting one. Different country entirely, different financial restrictions, it was unfamiliar ground, and a lot of important research was needed...

It's a damn good thing I don't stray away from difficult topics, ey?

The research was in-depth, and it was a challenge to understand the why's and the how's of the countries national restrictions on spending abroad. But I did it, and I understood why Kudiwave was incredibly important in what it is.

Sessions

Sessions just seemed like the next step up in terms of video-conferencing, so crawling through their SaaS service only made me think...

"Ok, why has this taken so long to be made?"

It's a UX friendly platform. It makes sense for internal communications, it HAS everything you think you'd need to make the working process easier and more fluid. 

They're going places. Just give it a few years, you'll see.

It's quite difficult to bring out the features and benefits of an online file conversion service. What's the USP? Why do people need convincing to use this tool, when it should be an after-thought in the users' mind...

Turns out, yeah. They kinda DO need an explanation. Because when most people use a tool for one purpose, they don't realise there's other tools. And they might not know why those tools should be used, so it might be your best interest to explain them.

And that's what I did.
