Mais tu prononces "focus" comme "f*ck us."

Félicitations.
T'es une encyclopédie que personne comprend.

Pendant que tu collectionnes du vocabulaire comme des Pokemon, ton concurrent close des deals avec ses 500 mots bien prononcés.

La différence?

Lui, on le comprend. 
Il est à l'aise et semble bien s'exprimer.

Toi, on fait semblant.
"Pourquoi il dit 'nevertheless' quand il dit encore 'elo awarre iou' "

Arrête de courir après des mots que tu utiliseras jamais.
Apprends à dire correctement ceux que tu utilises tous les jours.

Parce que "I sink zé should f*ck us on ze bellonce sh*t" ça passe pas.
Même avec 60,000 mots en réserve.

Ça sert à quoi d'avoir le vocabulaire de Shakespeare
Si tu passes pour un guignol dès que tu ouvres la bouche?

You can have perfect grammar and vocabulary,
but people still won't understand you correctly.
Why is that?

If people correct you when you speak English,
and all you can think is: 
"That's what I said!"

The issue probably isn't your sentence structure.
(Especially if this never happens when you write an email)

Instead, ask yourself what you actually sound like when you talk.

Are you accidentally saying something different?

Take this example:
My client used to always confuse the TH and F sounds, because the TH doesn't exist in his language (French).

So,
Whenever he wanted to say "three", he said "free".
If he wanted to say "thirst", he said "first"

You can see how that could get confusing.

So next time you think about improving your English with more vocabulary and grammar, ask yourself first:

𝐷𝑜 𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑐𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑙𝑦 𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝐼 𝑎𝑙𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑦 𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤?

If not, studying more vocabulary and grammar will be a waste of time until you fix the real issue.

It doesn't take much to sound like a pro.
Just like it doesn't take much to make foolish mistakes.

It's time to rethink your approach.

Il dit qu'on passe trop de temps à travailler fort sur les mauvais trucs.

Il en parle dans un contexte business, mais c'est tout aussi pertinent ici.

"Ce sur quoi vous travaillez est plus important qu'à quel point vous travaillez."

Mes clients en sont la preuve vivante.

Ils ont passé 15 ans à mémoriser des règles de grammaire.
Ils ont mis investi des fortunes en cours particuliers.
Ils ont un streak de 560 jours sur Duolingo.

Et pourtant? 
Ils disent toujours "sheet" au lieu de "sh*t."
Et leurs interlocuteurs leur demandent toujours de répéter.

Pendant ce temps, ils auraient pu avoir l'air d'un pro en quelques heures.

Tout comme un bon consultant peut rapidement épargner des millions à une entreprise.

Naval a raison.
La stratégie bat l'effort.

Tu peux courir très vite dans la mauvaise direction.
Ou marcher tranquillement vers le bon endroit.

En anglais, le bon endroit c'est pas une liste de verbes au subjonctif.
C'est de connaître ses lacunes et travailler vers un objectif spécifique.

En a beau travailler comme un fou pendant des heures, 
Mais on n'ira pas loin si on essaie de tout apprendre en même temps.

Je le sais bien - j'ai appris 6 langues en 3-4 mois à chaque fois,
Alors que la plupart des gens savent dire "hola" après 5 ans d'étude.

Les bons choix stratégiques font l'écart.
Pas les heures interminables.

❌ Tu veux passer le TOEIC? 𝐃𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐞.
✔️ Tu veux être clair et compétent à l'oral pour ton prochain panel/pitch/podcast en anglais? 𝐓𝐮 𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐮 𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐭.

Why does speaking a language seem easy for some people, but a real struggle for others?

The answer isn't talent, but technique.

We're all born with the ability to speak any language perfectly 
(with some exceptions in the case of physical or mental disabilities).

The better you apply the techniques, the more skilled you become.

The more skilled you become, the better results you get.

The better results you get, the more you enjoy the process,
And the more you believe you will succeed.

Of course, the opposite is also true.

If everyone around you says it's impossible and speaks only 1 language, 
Why should you believe otherwise?

Perhaps you take classes, get no results, and then lose confidence in your ability to learn another language.

You silently give up, 

And unless you can get some sort of measurable method that will prove you're improving, you will continue to believe you can't do it.

So if you have a genuine interest and a big enough reason to learn a language, make sure you find an approach that suits your learning style.

There's no reason at all you can't sound and feel completely comfortable in a 2nd, 3rd, or 15th language.

The only factor is how much you care, and whether you're using a strategy that actually works.

In other words, 

Does learning the skill mean enough to you that you'll invest the time and energy to make it a reality?

If not, 
I guarantee you will never learn.

And it doesn't only apply to languages!

On the flip side, 

If it 𝑑𝑜𝑒𝑠 mean enough to you that you'll invest to make it happen, 
All you need to do is figure out ℎ𝑜𝑤.

How I became fluent in Korean. Master English the same way.

When I finished my degree in linguistics, I had a theory:

That no matter your skin color, 
Anyone can pass for a native speaker of an other language.

So I went to a place I knew nothing about.
With a language completely different than anything I knew.

And I applied the exact method I teach today,
To see if I could pass for a native speaker
(over the phone 😉)

4 months later, I succeeded.

La plupart de mes clients ne visent pas de perdre leur accent.

Et c'est très bien comme ça.

Ce qu'ils veulent vraiment ?
Être compris la première fois, sans qu'on doute de leur compétence.
Se sentir à l'aise, avec la même fluidité qu'en français (ou presque).

En chiffres, ils visent un 8 ou 9 sur 10.
Pas la perfection, mais 𝒍'𝒆𝒙𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆.

Pourquoi c'est important ?

Parce que même avec tout le vocabulaire du monde, si tu parles anglais comme une vache espagnole, c'est ce qu'on retiendra.

Alors qu'avec un anglais scolaire rendu fluide et naturel, la barrière perçue devient zéro.
Les gens se concentrent 100% sur ton message, pas sur l'effort qu'il faut pour te comprendre.

Mais voilà la réalité pour la plupart des dirigeants :

Longs silences après qu'ils parlent.
Replay de visio qui fait presque honte.
Interlocuteurs trop polis pour offrir du feedback.

Pendant ce temps, tu continues d'accumuler du vocabulaire, de la grammaire, des heures de cours...

Mais ta prononciation reste la même.
Donc la perception de ton anglais reste médiocre.

Résultat : 
Une charge mentale énorme pour toi et tes interlocuteurs, avec toujours l'impression que ton niveau est faible.

J'ai appris 6 langues avec l'approche inverse :
Commence par la prononciation et l'expression.
Maîtrise le contexte spécifique à tes objectifs.

Tu peux ainsi paraître très avancé, très rapidement.
Pendant que tes collègues ont toujours l'air d'avoir un anglais débutant.

C'est cette méthode que j'enseigne depuis 2017.

Environ une heure par semaine pendant quelques mois suffit pour transformer ton anglais scolaire en communication qui inspire la confiance.

Oui, ton accent français peut être charmant - mais seulement quand ce n'est pas la seule chose qu'on entend.
