Bark is a London-based online marketplace that uses technology to simplify the interactions between service providers and buyers in the service marketplace.

In my role at Bark, I redefined our sales process, led the integration of our tech stack with HubSpot, and developed our entire HubSpot CRM environment. I implemented all sales automation processes and managed a 95-member sales team, which greatly contributed to Bark's revenue growth.

Additionally, I oversaw a smaller outbound sales Account Executive team that consistently outperformed their initial monthly target of £60,000. In their first quarter, this team generated over £1.4 million, an average attainment of 155%. I also personally contributed to the company's sales figures, bringing in over £600,000 in May 2023.

My strategic negotiations led to an annual tech stack savings of £100,000, adding further value to the company.

One key accomplishment was the development of new processes, training, and automation that led to doubling Bark's SME market revenue in less than nine months. This initiative significantly accelerated Bark's financial growth and market standing.

Responsible for leading a team to successfully overachieve on a new business target of £225,000 monthly – target exceeded by 50% three months in a row (over £1,000,000 in new business this quarter in a site open less than a year) while contributing to the growth of company-wide membership EBITDA of £172.9 million. 

Lead site to hit target for the first time since opening within one month in position, then hit goal every single month - brought site from bottom of region to top three in under six months. 

Overachieved on personal sales target by over 100% while leading sales ops and upskilling team.

Reimagined the sales process, increasing site KPI attainment by over 150% compared to past performance.

Introduced new systems increasing prospect conversion rate by 25%, inbound prospects by 100%, and social media following by 100% in under three months.

I can’t believe Nooks just turned 5 🎉

21-year-old Dan would never have imagined the journey ahead when we first started this thing

We’ve come a long way from sleeping on air mattresses in Rohan’s family’s basement — self-isolating through COVID, writing code at absurd hours, and praying someone… anyone… would care about what we were building.

I don’t often stop to reflect, but looking back on the last 5 years:

🏃‍➡️ We escaped pivot hell. From virtual classroom → virtual office → virtual salesfloor → human-AI OS for sales teams

📈 Nooks has grown to become the largest company I’ve ever worked at

🧠 We’ve hired nearly 200 incredible customer-obssessed, high-agency, low-ego people. Each one smarter than me in a different way

💰 We’ve raised $70M from world-class investors (and built some thick skin from the dozens of “no’s” along the way)

🚀 Our customers have generated billions of dollars in pipeline through Nooks

💜 We’ve built a product thousands of reps say they can’t live without — reimagining how humans work with AI

Meet Etienne — the man behind some of our most widely-used ML models

He’s been building the superhuman audio intelligence that powers our AI dialer

It's an interesting technical challenge that comes with human-in-the-loop AI: we need to react to audio faster AND more accurately than humans

One cool strategy he shares. We actually train two different models

An async model that cares only about accuracy, not latency. This model is easier to train because it can use longer audio samples and leverage more compute. We use this model to scale a high quality dataset.

Plus a realtime model that optimizes for both accuracy & latency. This realtime model is what we actually use in production.

I've been impressed to see this system scale across the millions of calls that Nooks users make every day

Besides shipping models & captaining ships, Etienne is a true Renaissance man:

- Before Nooks, he bootstrapped an AI video startup 🎥
- He published graph representation learning papers at ICML and ICLR based on research he did at McGill 🕸️
- His many hobbies include windsurfing, sailing, and mushroom foraging 🍄
- He once made his own bamboo raft to get out of the jungle in Jamaica 🛶

I hope our engineers don’t look too deeply at those early GitHub commits 😂

And I definitely found more embarrassing pictures of me, Rohan, and Nikhil hanging in our virtual office than I’d like to admit 😅

Remembering the email from Stanford offering to pay us $2 per student for our early virtual classroom tool was a trip down memory lane… and looking back now, it’s wild how differently Nooks could’ve turned out.

Whether you’ve known us since the beginning or you’re just tuning in to the journey now, this timeline is a testament to our team’s hard work, agility, and resilience

Reflecting and seeing it all in one place makes me even more excited to think about what comes next.
