In July 2024, a guy called Guy pitched me an idea.

A community for founders, business owners and exited entrepreneurs — with wellbeing at its core.

At the time, it landed perfectly.

I’d already started making some positive lifestyle changes personally. Training more. Looking after my head. Saying no to things that no longer served me.

At the same time, I was going through a big professional shift.
I’d started SocialTap with the support of three experienced entrepreneurs, but I’d decided it was time to buy them out and go it alone.

Both of those decisions created gaps.

My lifestyle changes created a void in my social circle.
The buyout created a gap in terms of professional support.

I’d been to plenty of “traditional” networking events before.
If I’m honest, I hated them. They always felt like something I should do as a business owner, not something I wanted to do.

Function turned out to be exactly what I needed — at exactly the right time.

If you’re currently exploring Meta as a new marketing channel, one of the first questions you’ll be asking is:

“How much budget do I actually need to start?”

The honest answer?
It’s less about daily spend and more about how quickly you can get through the learning phase.

Meta needs data.
You need data.
And that only really starts to become meaningful once you’re hitting ~50 conversions in a short period of time. 

That volume gives:

You enough performance signal to judge what’s working
Meta enough signal to optimise delivery properly

Where it gets tricky is high-ticket businesses. It may be easy to get 50 leads in a week, but what about 50 converted sales?

If a sale costs £500 to acquire, you’re looking at £25,000 just to reach 50 sales.
That’s not always realistic early on.

You must understand what you can afford to pay per converted client — and how that looks at volume, not just one-off wins.

Meta doesn’t reward impatience.
It rewards clear economics, good signals, and enough data to learn.

When Meta ads get expensive, most people fix the wrong thing.

Rising costs aren’t random — they’re a signal that something in the system has changed.

But instead of diagnosing that change, most advertisers panic and start “doing stuff”:

👉 blaming the algorithm

The reality? There are only a handful of things that usually drive cost inflation:

• Web design - this was for a number of websites including both brochure and ecommerce.

• Email marketing - using the mailchimp platform, I created a suite of email templates/campaigns to target both domestic and international client base.

• Brand Design - Logo, brochure and poster design for a group of companies.

• Social Media - help create a social media presence for a group of companies.

• other marketing activities - SEO, banner design, presentation creation, PPC, Google analytical reporting, content population and blogging.

Joined the Pama in 2009 as a Junior Web Designer, progressed through the company to Marketing & E-Commerce assistant, then Marketing & E-Commerce Executive (both onlines and offline),  then onto being the Marketing Manager for the groups Office Supplies division.

Offline Marketing:

Writing, creating and producing the groups marketing material, including product sheets, presentations, poster and adverts.

Creating and implementing a successful marketing structure within the domestic wholesale department which saw an increase in marketing revenue of over 30% on the previous year.

Analysing and reporting through KPIs on the success of the marketing campaigns produced.

Liaising with brands on marketing their products, keeping inline with brand guidelines etc.

Liaising with written media on adverts and advertorials.


Online Marketing:
Implement a successful email marketing and reporting structure within the group.

Create using html, email campaigns from marketing material created for offline campaigns.

Sending out up to six campaigns per week to both prospects and clients, with an average of 34% opens (an increase of 14%)  and 20% click through rate (an increase of 12%)
SEO for the groups five websites, in which I managed to raise two of the websites to a page one ranking in Google on a number of keywords, which in turn brought a 20% increase in enquiries.

Content managing Pama Wholesale website, where duties include updating the website with new content including images, and written content.

Designing, coding and testing three of the groups websites using HTML, CSS and some Javascript to W3C standards.

PPC management where I achieved a 3,000% ROI on one of groups B2C websites.

Social Media campaigns for Linked In, which brought in enquiries on key brands and products aimed at the business person, which in turn brought on an increase in sales on struggling products.

I helped develop a brochure website on one of Paton Browns services.

The rest of the time I helped set up letters for direct mailing using data cleansing and specialised software.  Main duties include cleansing of data which is sent in by clients and the setting up of letters to be sent out to the clients customers. I was in charge of e-mail marketing (which mainly consists of developing the e-mail templates using html) and web development within the company. 

I also kept an eye on the performance of the website using Google Analytics. I was in charge of cleansing data for a major gas company and calculating the distribution figures that came with it. Other day to day duties included running industrial printers and liaising with clients gathering their requirements.
