A guy with zero biology background just designed a custom cancer vaccine for his dying dog.

Cost him $3,000.

The pharmaceutical industry spends billions doing the same thing.

Here's what happened:

Paul Conyngham is a tech entrepreneur in Sydney. In 2024, his rescue dog 

Rosie was diagnosed with aggressive mast cell cancer. Vets gave her months to live.

Chemo didn't work. Surgery didn't work. The tumors kept growing.

So he opened ChatGPT and started asking questions.

Not as a doctor. As a data engineer who refused to watch his dog die.

ChatGPT pointed him toward genomic sequencing. He paid $3,000 to have Rosie's tumor DNA sequenced at the University of New South Wales. Then he ran that data through AlphaFold (the Google DeepMind tool that won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry) to model the 3D structure of her mutated proteins.

From those models, he identified the exact targets for a potential immune response.

Months of analysis. Compressed into half a page of formulas.

When a pharma company refused to supply an existing drug for his dog, he pivoted. He worked with UNSW's RNA Institute to manufacture a custom mRNA vaccine from scratch.

The whole process from sequence to syringe? Less than two months.

Rosie got her first injection in December 2025. By January, the tennis ball-sized tumor on her leg had shrunk 75%.

She went from barely being able to walk to jumping a fence at the dog park to chase a rabbit.

The researcher's reaction: "Holy crap, it worked."

What actually matters, the thing most people overlook, is whether your job has purpose.
