What the heck does it mean to be fearless?

And what should your philosophical bedrock be?

I love it. The name calls to me.

Not that I'm sure how to be fearless.

But I know what you need to arm yourself with in order to try.

And it's the trying that really matters.

I’m 5’4 on a good day.
Small man syndrome? Never heard of it.

When you’re the smallest guy in the room, you learn early:
you can disappear,
or grow teeth.

I chose the latter. Let's just say the elementary school bullies did not enjoy me.

Twelve years ago I spent a summer in Estevan, Saskatchewan working overhaul at a coal power plant.

12 hour days.
12 on, 2 off, repeat.

Most of the BC snowboard crowd got "observation".
Easy summer cash to fund the season.
Sit, read, count boilermakers in and out.

Someone saw my construction and concrete resume.
They put me on "heavy maintenance" instead.

Turbine casing top half removed.
Half joint gets descaled by hand. No machines.
That was me, honing steel for 12 hours a day.

I slept in my RV.
In the trailer park.
Posted up in front of my friends trailer.

The days off land on Canada Day.

Big dance at the community center.
Then a trailer park after party.
Across the street from my RV.

Around 2 AM, a posse of local boilermakers rolls in.
Big guys. Home turf.

Well known they weren't thrilled about the BC crew making summer cash in their town.

As they arrive, the hosts start a wet towel fight in their underwear.

Hilarious.

The ringleader doesn’t think so.

So he starts:
“Homos.”
“Some kind of gay thing?”
“Faggots.”

That’s when the teeth show up.
5'4" or 6'3", doesn't matter.
The wiring trips.

Like a breaker.

So I let it carry.
All the way to the back of the trailer.

I diagnose the motive for the tease…
...likely repressed sexual tendencies.

In an instant,
the towels didn’t matter.
Crosshairs on me.

We chirped a while.
Kitchen to deck. Deck to railing.
Him puffing up. Me barely looking up,
while sliding razors under his nails.

Finally:
“Cut it out, you’re going to get punched.”

I guess I didn’t cut it out.

Haymaker to the dome.

I stumble back. Deck goes quiet.
Rub my jaw, look up at him and say,
“Did you just throw a muffin at me?”

Like a match to a jerry can.

Tackles me into the railing.
Knees on my shoulders. 
Fist like a hammer on my forehead.
Expecting blood. Tears...

...Instead, I start laughing. Hysterically.

Not because it didn’t hurt.
Because the outcome he sought was simply not available.

He jumps off and storms to the kitchen.
Drawers flying. Metal clanking.
We all knew what he was looking for.

That was my cue. Outtie 9000.

I disappear into the trailer park and let the night cool off.

Next morning, proper shiner.

I ask around who he is.
Everyone thinks I’m hunting.

I’m not. I want to apologize.

Later that day, smoke break.
He walks out. We lock eyes.

“Yo.”

He comes over.
“Yeah, I heard you were looking for me.”

We sit.

I apologize for egging him on.
He apologizes for being so aggressive.
Turns out he’s from Brandon. My home province.

We chat. Finish the smokes.

“Alright. Back to work."

Teeth matter.

So does knowing when to sit on the bench the next day.

I imagine the future and then create it.

Early in 2025, we were days away from closing our first major investment. Then our lead investor pulled out. I felt the ground drop beneath me 😔 

We were low on cash, other investors were watching, my team was looking to me for answers, and I didn’t know my next move, that’s when I called David Kurkjian

David was already one of the earliest believers in me and what we’re building at OutreachGenius, and he already joined as our Fractional Chief Revenue Officer

But in that moment, he became something more than a senior leader; he became an anchor ⚓ 

I was frustrated, emotionally charged, feeling like the world was against me, thinking fast, but not clearly

In one phone call, he helped me separate emotion from logic and walked me through the situation calmly, strategically, step by step  

And he didn’t stop there, he took initiative

He reached out to the investor who pulled out directly and helped mend the communication gaps 😊 

He reframed the narrative and stabilized the relationship when I couldn’t

That investor eventually came back in with a significant investment that made a massive difference, and today, they’re one of the best partners and advisors we could have brought on - deeply involved, aligned and supportive 🎯

That moment could have gone very differently 

It didn’t - largely because I had someone experienced, steady and battle-tested in my corner

Over the last year, David has become much more than our Chief Revenue Officer, he’s become one of the first people I call when something goes right and more importantly when something goes wrong

We’ve spent many weeks travelling together - trade shows, client meetings, long airport conversations, late evening debriefs 😎

In my second year as a young entrepreneur, running a College Pro Painting franchise, a customer reduced me to the color of my skin in front of my team. That moment changed me 👇🏾 

It started as a normal service issue

A bit of rain hit near the end of an exterior painting job, the homeowner was frustrated and my crew called me and I drove across the city to fix it - like I always did 💨 

At first, the customer was yelling, then it shifted: 

“Go back to your country”
“People like you aren’t wanted here”

My team was standing behind me and heard everything 👀 

I remember my heart pounding, my face felt hot

There was this surge of anger - and honestly, humiliation - that I wasn’t prepared for 😤 

Up until then, I hadn’t experienced racism that direct, that unapologetic 

And in that split second, I had a choice - React or lead 

Part of me wanted to explode, to match the hostility, to defend myself 😑 

But I looked at my team, they weren’t just watching how I handled a customer, they were watching how I handled myself

So I paused 😶 

We refunded the project and walked away

Not because I was weak, but because I refused to let someone else’s prejudice dictate my character 😒 

It’s Black History month, and while this month celebrates Black excellence and contribution, it’s also about telling the full story of our lived experience

Entrepreneurship is hard for anyone

But there’s an extra layer many Black founders carry - being judged before we speak, being underestimated before we perform, being reduced before we’re understood

That day forced me to grow up fast and I learned 3 things that I still carry today:

1️⃣ Awareness: I had to recognize what I was feeling - anger, shame, disbelief. Labelling was the first step in not letting it drive me blindly

2️⃣ Control: I asked myself, “what action aligns with my long-term goals?” Not my ego or pride - but my future

3️⃣ Empathy: Not to excuse what happened- but to remind myself that I don’t have to become what I’m fighting

That moment didn’t harden me, it refined me 💪🏾 

It strengthened my composure, leadership and focus on the long game

Black History Month is a reminder that our stories are layered

Yes, there is progress

Yes, there is innovation and impact

And yes, there are still moments that test us

But what defines us isn’t the prejudice or bias

It’s the response and ability to rise without losing ourselves

That day changed me, not because of what was said, but because of who I decided to become

Last month, we generated 15 paying customers from 2 trade shows - not leads, not booked calls, not “interested”, actual paying customers. Here’s the playbook we use to turn trade shows into revenue: 👇🏾 

1️⃣ Start with the outcome (Not the Event):

Most people ask: “which trade show should we attend?” Wrong question

Start with: What outcome are we optimizing for? 

Revenue? Partnerships? Market feedback? Brand awareness?

For us, it’s simple: Paying customers

When you begin with the end in mind, everything else becomes clearer

2️⃣ Choose the Right Event:

The fastest way to waste money is to show up to the wrong audience

Do your research: Who’s attending? What roles? Do they control the budget? Are decision makers present?

There are hundreds of trade shows, only a handful will actually move your business forward, be selective

3️⃣ Nail Your Positioning:

Your positioning must match the room

Don’t show up with your standard pitch, create something designed for commitment 

We optimize for payment on-site - at our booth, people can scan a QR code, complete a short form, and pay right there 🤯 

Not everyone does, but the ones who start the process show real intent - and many complete it

The best signal of interest isn’t a business card, it’s a transaction

5️⃣ Build the Funnel Before the Show: 

Trade show ROI starts 1 - 2 weeks before the event, most shows provide attendee lists, use them!

Send teaser emails, invite them to your booth, build curiosity (not a full pitch), then automate everything

We use GoHighLevel to manage forms, follow up sequences, Email + SMS nurturing and post-show recap campaigns

Manual follow up kills momentum; systems win

💡 Bonus: If there’s an opportunity to speak - take it! Even if you have to pay

Stage authority is leverage, it multiplies trust, partnerships and conversions

If you’re a founder with ADHD like me, you probably know the feeling. It’s like driving a Ferrari with bicycle brakes 😅 

You’ve got horsepower, ideas and energy

But your control system doesn’t always keep up 😤 

If you operate from organized chaos, the ideas aren’t the problem - containment is

On any given month, I generate more ideas than I could execute in a quarter

Some are strong, some fade, and what’s frustrating isn’t that ideas come and go 

It’s that great ones get lost - not because they weren’t viable, but because there wasn’t enough structure around them 😒 

For years, I tried to fix this the normal way with better task tools, virtual assistants, weekly priority lists and more checklists

That helped, but there was still a gap

The tools were good at storing information, but they didn’t understand relationships

And if you’re wired like this, you know relationships are everything

Every idea touches:

👉🏾 A long-term goal, a quarterly rock, a key hire, a hidden tradeoff, a packed calendar, a fluctuating energy level 

Most systems don’t see that web, they just collect inputs 👀 

So using OpenClaw, I built what I call a LifeOS - an AI system with access to my health data, goals, email, notes, meeting transcripts, and calendar - unified through a graph (shoutout to Sajjad Heydari for building the graph layer)

Something interesting happened at the International Franchise Association convention in Vegas last week. The booth next to ours was another AI voice company 😆 

Instead of treating that corner as competitive territory, something unexpected happened 👇🏾 

That corner of the floor started drawing attention, conversations overlapped, franchise operators gathered, people leaned in, listened, compared notes and asked questions

It organically became the “AI Voice” corner of the conference 👌🏾 

And because of that proximity, we actually had more conversations - not fewer

More dialogue, more curiosity, more exploration around what AI voice can and should look like for franchise brands

It became proof that a new category is forming 💡 

👉🏾 Voice AI for home services is no longer experimental, it’s becoming operational infrastructure

And infrastructure requires leadership

The real opportunity in this space isn’t just building better voice models, It’s building trust

At the International Franchise Association convention last week, I didn’t hear, “Should we use AI?”

I heard franchise executives asking, “How do we deploy AI without compromising the brand we’ve spent decades building?” 👀 

That distinction matters

👉🏾 The urgency around AI is real; competitors are moving, franchisees are experimenting, boards are asking questions

But inside franchise systems, automation without governance isn’t innovation; it’s brand risk at scale

Across dozens of conversations we had in Las Vegas with franchisors, three themes surfaced repeatedly

1️⃣ Context

Franchise systems are finely tuned operating environments

They run on defined SOPs, brand standards, escalation paths, customer experience expectations and unit-level operational realities

AI layered on top of that - without understanding it - creates inconsistency

Executives aren’t looking for generic automation, they want AI that ingests their existing operating model and behaves within it

2️⃣ Trust

At the system level, trust is non-negotiable

If AI books an appointment, it must follow business rules exactly

If it answers a customer question, it must be accurate

If it represents the brand, it must reflect tone and standards

No overbooking, no hallucinated answers, no compliance gaps

In a franchise network, one operational flaw doesn’t stay isolated, it multiplies across locations

3️⃣ Scale

Even when context and trust are solved in one market, the real test is replication

Can you deploy across 100+ units quickly? 
Can you maintain consistency while respecting local nuances? 
Can you roll out without operational disruption?

This is where most AI initiatives stall

What changed the tone of our conversations at IFA was this:

We didn’t talk about features. We talked about engineering context, trust, and scale into the system from day one

2️⃣ Behavioral Emulation: AI adopts a consistent persona, models communication style, maintains personality over time, and operates in defined roles - like a Chief of Staff

3️⃣ Cognitive Emulation: AI understands strategic context, maintains long-term memory, applies decision frameworks and improves through structured feedback loops

🎯 Level 3 is where the true “digital employee” becomes real

For example, it can see I’ll be in Toronto in three weeks, monitor flights, track weather, suggest activities, and flag scheduling conflicts - proactively, not because I prompted, but because it understands context

We’re still early, but the direction is clear, the future of AI isn’t just smarter tools, it’s digital operators and when digital humans become real inside companies, the economic map changes!
