I co-founded Zero Procure back in 2020 because I knew procurement could be done differently.

I’d already been working in the hospitality industry for…well my whole life. But I’d previously run a cleaning business for 11 years before I sold it in 2017.

And there’s something I noticed about procurement:

- You either did it yourself…taking time away from your core job
- You could hire someone to do it…but they only have so much buying power
- You could hire a procurement company…that will charge you a percentage of your savings
- Or you could go with option 4…paying just the supplier for your goods, but also getting the best prices

Here’s our cue to come in.

Zero Procure works the exact same as any other procurement company…but you, the customer, don’t pay a thing!

Honestly, it’s as simple as that (we get our cuts from the supplier, not you).

What I learned standing up procurement from scratch.

3 big, yet simplified themes:

1. Storytelling

Everything starts here. Put on your marketing and sales hats. Share your vision through relatable stories that capture your audience’s attention & be relatable in ways they won’t ignore. Partner with them to build the story.

2. Design

Tech is leverage. Build easy to use systems, workflows, and functional teams that are so user-friendly that a first-timer wouldn’t need any help. And because they're already part of story (see 1), simple always wins.

3. Customer Service

Human first, always. Provide the highest level of service and support for colleagues so they keep coming back to have their problems solved and to be treated well. They should think of you when they need help, with anything.

From the day you walk in to the day you leave, focus on these daily. They should be so ingrained in the way you do business, they feel like they're on autopilot. 

Train your team, hold the same high bar of aptitude. 
Support them, help them grow. 

Realize that while this sounds easy, it's hard work that takes consistent effort and can't be ignored.

People fail because it's so easy to fall back to the status quo and complacency... what we've always done. 

That ain't it. 

This reminds me of a quote: “How you do anything is how you do everything.”
