Hi, I'm John, Chief Creative Officer at Herman-Scheer, a strategic and creative brand consultancy. We believe the businesses that prioritize connection over transaction are the ones that succeed. 

Since 2010, Herman-Scheer has helped change the way businesses make people feel. We have big heart and daring instincts. A sunny disposition and assertive gait. 

I consider myself a people-people kind of person, enamored by how brands connect to people and how people connect to brands. I love working with businesses that—put simply—keep people healthy and happy.

My career journey has been about embracing the idea that friction makes fire. 

I believe in mixing the intuitive and familiar with the audacious and novel, creating a healthy tension to captivate and engage. This friction, this interplay of ideas, is where I believe brands find their true voice and distinctive edge.

Alongside Chapin, (The Herman to my Scheer), we’ve built an agency with a strong POV: great health and self-care brands create narratives and identities aimed at changing behaviors—experiences so compelling that customers stick with a product or service even before they see the tangible benefits.

John Scheer

For over 10 years, Randall has managed product development and established supply chains for some of the world’s most innovative, design-focused products. 

Currently, Randall is the Head of Operations at Orion, where he leads operations, manufacturing, hardware engineering, global supply chain development, product support, and organizational growth. 

Orion is building next-generation sleep technology that uses intelligent thermal control and advanced sensing to help people improve sleep quality, support longevity, and enhance overall wellbeing. The company’s system is designed to regulate sleep temperature, reduce wake-ups, and promote deeper, more restorative rest — all at the intersection of wellness, technology, and thoughtful design.

Previously, Randall was a GSM at Apple, where he managed the global supply chain of Apple's displays from early design and development through mass production. His work focused on technical convergence, supply, and cost efficiencies. He supported multiple ramps including for Apple Watch Ultra, Apple Watch Series, and Apple Watch SE. During his time at Apple, he also worked on the consumer packaging team, working to advance Apple’s 2025 plastic-free goals across hardware lines including AirPods, iPad, AirTag, and Vision Pro.

Before joining Apple, Randall managed the global supply chain of artificial leather (PUR) for Tesla, overseeing early design and development through mass production. His work supported factories in Fremont (SX3Y), Gigafactory Austin, Shanghai, Berlin, Monterrey, and future sites. During this time, he contributed to programs including Cybertruck, Model S, Model X, Model 3 (2017), the refreshed Model 3 (2023), the refreshed Model Y (2025), Tesla Semi, Cybercab, and Robovan.

Randall was also the Co-Founder &amp; CEO of Miravel, a Los Angeles–based technology startup focused on helping people lead healthier, more sustainable lives through easier access to fresh food. He is a named inventor on Miravel’s Wall Garden patent and led the company through product development, fundraising, and early market traction.

Randall earned a B.S.B. from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, where he received the 2018 Kelley Coin, and also studied abroad at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Randall is a strong believer that a diverse range of experiences creates a more informed perspective on the world we live in. He loves working with people who are bright, determined, and crazy enough to think they can change the world. They are the ones who usually do.

Exciting news! Orion won the 2026 iF Design Award in Product Design 🥂

For those who are unfamiliar, the iF Design Award is one of the most renowned design competitions in the world, with thousands of entries reviewed each year by an independent global jury of design professionals across criteria including idea, form, function, and impact. 

This recognition reflects the strength of our product’s industrial design, including material selection, proportions, and usability, specifically within the bedroom environment. 

For the Orion team, this is a hugely meaningful accomplishment. 

Establishing a strong design-focused foundation from day one has been a core principle for us, and the team has worked incredibly hard over the last year to create a product that fits naturally into your space. We are incredibly grateful to see that effort recognized. This award strengthens our conviction in prioritizing beautiful design and a fantastic overall product experience. We believe technology is only as powerful as its ability to integrate seamlessly into everyday life, and we are excited to continue refining and elevating the experience for all of you!
