Joe McBreen

I am a passionate educator and certified Project Management Professional who believes in reimagining what's possible in education. With over 15 years of experience teaching English and leading innovative programs, I've cultivated expertise in project-based learning, educational technology, and curriculum development while maintaining a focus on student agency and growth.

My teaching philosophy centers on the belief that every student, regardless of their background or prior experiences, deserves an education that empowers them to excel. Through culturally responsive curricula and data-driven instruction, I create learning environments where students develop both academic abilities and personal confidence. By embracing a growth mindset and focusing on making learning visible, I help students find hope and pride in their achievements while developing the skills needed to become engaged global citizens in our evolving world.

My journey began teaching English in Japan, which sparked my passion for working with diverse learners. As an International Baccalaureate graduate, experienced MYP teacher, and world traveler, I bring a unique global perspective to education. I've taught MYP 9th and 10th grade English Language Arts, US Literature, and cutting-edge Audio Video Productions, creating curricula that promotes critical thinking and authentic collaboration. I craft unique learning experiences that combine academic rigor with service-learning, including training students as Youth Participatory Action Researchers to investigate and address local societal challenges, empowering them to create meaningful change in their communities.

As a servant leader, I direct TEDxMountain Ave, Northern Colorado's largest TEDx event, uniquely operated by students and educators from six high schools and two colleges. Under my leadership, our talks consistently rank in the top 20% of TEDx presentations globally. I train students to become project managers, handling everything from communications to event planning, proving that when we trust young adults with real responsibility, they exceed expectations.

Beyond the classroom, I'm a founding member of the Human Intelligence Movement, working with global education leaders to ensure human creativity and critical thinking remain central as we navigate the integration of AI in education. I've led numerous professional development initiatives in Educational Technology and regularly mentor colleagues in implementing innovative practices.

When I'm not teaching, I paddleboard, write books I never publish, and travel the world.
