Two weeks in Rio & São Paulo and I’m leaving Brazil with a head full of ideas (and about 10 Portuguese words… all badly pronounced).

My best achievement? I can now confidently say “dois cerveja, por favor” — apparently more effective than any deck proposals I brought with me!

What struck me most is how huge the digital and fintech opportunity in LATAM is, and why Transact Media Group (TMG) is investing time on the ground.

As a BRIC nation humming with growth, Brazil is full of potential yet often overlooked by larger Western companies.

At TMG, our mission is to bring outcomes-based programmatic and banking-level data products to brands who want precision, transparency and real accountability.

 Being here made something clear: this region is bursting with innovation but missing the kind of data-led approach we build for clients.

Once you immerse yourself in the market, the tech takeaways hit fast:

🇧🇷 PIX is a phenomenon.
 150M+ Brazilians use Pix monthly, accounting for over 30% of all payments. Instant, free, universal — and a blueprint Europe will follow in 2026. It’s not just a payment system; it’s a rewiring of how money moves.

📱 UGC is an obsession (yes, dancing included).
 LIVE Video adoption is wild. Brazil is top five globally. I started a random LIVE, spoke broken English for 90 seconds minute, and nearly 1,100 LIVE watchers appeared. The appetite for real-time interaction is enormous.

🚗 China has quietly taken over.
BYD is now the biggest EV seller, and Chinese apps dominate delivery, logistics and fintech rails. Western incumbents like Uber feel somewhat sidelined — a preview of what Western markets may face within the decade.

💰 250M people = billions flowing through tech, with surprisingly little emotional affinity for it.
  Brazil has the world’s 5th-largest digital ad market, but trust is fragile. A decade of bad pricing left brands burned. The opportunity is huge, but unlocking it requires transparency and genuine partnership. Not quick wins.

As TMG expands globally, LATAM has become one of the most exciting (and complex) regions on our map. Our newest hire will be key in opening this market properly - and, crucially, speaking Portuguese.

Our long-term success is still TBC, but the opportunity in the next 3–5 years is undeniable. And if Western companies don’t take their shot, you can be sure China will as it powers much of the digital, engineering and financial ecosystem here within the decade.

Challenges ahead but incredibly energised by what’s taking shape.
