After bouncing around from retail to retail, being promised better rates over and over again, and continually seeing just slight variations of the same business, I finally caved and gave the broker route a try. 

It’s been the best decision of my career. I almost never lose deals to competitors anymore. I have full control over every pricing scenario. I have way more products than I ever had, even when the retail companies were telling me I had hundreds of options. My applications have tripled, going from 10 a month to 30.

Most importantly, my confidence is back. I’m no longer anxious with every rate shopper. I’m not nervous talking to industry partners. I don’t have to worry about my company changing my margins on me. I have full control now, total transparency, and know exactly what rates are available in the marketplace. Shoot, half the lenders I used to work for have wholesale departments and I can still broker to them. 

I know recruiters and sales managers can promise the world.  I promise I’ll keep it real with you. Brokering is not all a cake walk. I have 20 different lender portals I’m currently using, and still haven’t researched all 150+ lenders we have. Having numerous systems is the price you pay for being able to have flexibility if you want to use one for low FICO FHA, another lender for investment cash out, another for down payment assistance, and the various non QM options. Definitely not for everyone. 

But if you generate your own leads. Have your own referral partners. Do more than just one type of loan. Want to grow your business and don’t mind learning new systems. I promise you, the retail lies of brokers “having less control” and “not being able to talk to underwriters” will be so obvious you’ll realize it’s just what every branch manager tells you to keep you from jumping ship so they can retain your overrides. Cut them out, make more bps while selling better rates. I promise it’s not too good to be true. Give me a shout and I’ll prove it.

I know it sounds cheesy, but real estate changed my life. I was house hacking the first home I bought, renting out two spare rooms (sometimes the third), having my mortgage mostly covered, and selling the home two years later for 40k profit. 

Everything changed for me after that... 

It allowed me to buy a way nicer home in West Plaza, that I'm now able to Airbnb at $300+ a night on the weekends! I call this House Hacking 2.0. I pull anywhere from 3-4k a month with some longer weekend stays, or sometimes they book for the full month at $4k+. 

If I wanted to, I could retire in another country and live off $300 a month lol. But I have some bigger goals I want to hit. And I got way too bored when I was just sitting at home playing video games while running my Airbnb. I want to build a mortgage business that will change the way people view the industry.

Did you know there is only 1 loan officer for every 8 realtors nationwide? This stat may actually be a bit outdated, with so many new realtors these days, that ratio is probably even higher! And the average age of a loan officer is 50+! The industry is facing a talent cliff, where there will be a major shortage in the years to come. So many companies don't want to hire new folks. I'm going to change that.

People don't realize how good of a career this can be. Build up your network. Set your own hours. Make unlimited income. Work from the beach. Buy real estate. Put yourself on a different path!!
