"Labor market impacts of AI: A new measure and early evidence" (Massenkoff & McCrory, March 5, 2026)

The headline findings everyone will talk about: 
→ Computer programmers: 74.5% observed AI exposure 
→ Customer service reps: 70.1% 
→ Sales reps (wholesale/manufacturing): 62.8% 
→ Market research & marketing specialists: 64.8%

The finding most people will miss: 

There's a massive gap between what AI CAN theoretically do to a job and what it's ACTUALLY doing. The "observed exposure" is a fraction of the theoretical capability.

Translation: We're still early. The wave hasn't crested.

This report looks at broad BLS occupational categories. It doesn't break down what's happening inside GTM specifically.

So I did it.

I took the same logic, theoretical vs. observed exposure, task-level analysis, automation vs. augmentation weighting—and mapped it across 7 GTM roles:
🔹 Revenue Leaders 
🔹 Customer Success 
🔹 RevOps 
🔹 Enablement 
🔹 Sales 
🔹 Business Development 
🔹 Marketing

The results are... uncomfortable in the best way.

Some roles are seeing 60-70%+ task coverage RIGHT NOW. Others have massive theoretical exposure but almost zero observed deployment.

That gap? That's your window.

Yesterday’s announcement is a clear 'signal' that the next battleground isn’t CRM data…
…it’s conversation-derived operational intelligence.

"I got off our board meeting and I burst into tears"....

This is how the conversation started with a senior leader I have been working with.

This client has been struggling with hormonal imbalances in the menopause and is too embarrassed to talk about how she is struggling to her peers.

Emotionally and physically she is close to burn out, as she continues to feel unsupported.

The one thing that I heard was missing from the board meeting was emotional intelligence.

This remains (IMO) one of the most critical capabilities in leadership and often I still observe this as the biggest gap.

Being aware of others around you, enables you to offer meaningful support, empathy, or just human kindness.

What happened during this board meeting, was this woman was undermined and patronized in front of her peers.  

No support, but the silence from her remaining peers filled the room much more than noise!

The pace of AI makes our human skills even more crucial than ever before.  Those leaders who continue to flex and work on their Emotional intelligence, will be the ones left standing....

Women don’t fail because they lack ambition.

They stall because they try to do it alone.

At every stage of my career, I would have loved to have a community of women who just got it!

Who helped me think more clearly, move faster, and encouraged me to back myself when I wasn’t sure I should.

Not always someone in my function. Not always someone more senior.

Sometimes the most valuable perspective in the room comes from someone who has nothing to do with your world. A different lens. A different set of scars.

That’s what cross-functional community actually looks like. Not a networking event. Not a panel of speakers you’ll forget by Tuesday.

A room where people are doing real work, together. Thinking out loud. Sharing what’s actually hard right now.

So this International Women’s Day, aligned to the theme, I’m hosting a free group working session for women in leadership (or aspiring), across functions, industries, and career stages.

Meta just made AI usage part of every employee's performance review.
Not encouraged, or suggested, they went straight up scoring system.

70,000+ people are now being formally evaluated on their "AI-driven impact", from engineers to marketers to operations.

Microsoft's message to managers was even more blunt: using AI is "no longer optional."

Before you dismiss this as Big Tech theatre, think about what's coming for revenue teams.

If you lead a GTM org, it might look something like this..

"Can your reps demonstrate AI-driven impact in their next review?"

Most can't and it's understandable why!

The problem isn't that people won't use AI, ask anyone in IT about their ghost AI tech nightmares.

It's that most organisations have rolled out AI tools without coaching people through what changes, what stays, and what "good" looks like in an AI-assisted workflow.

It's like handing someone ski poles for the first time, pointing at a Black Run, and saying "off you go, we'll score you at the bottom."

People adopt change when they feel supported, not surveilled.

No new take, that I am little obsessed with the developments in AI, which is why I loved this discussion on the podcast with Guy Rubin, Alan Morton and Jonny Adams

So many topics I could have dived deeper into, as I've observed the wave of new problems not only for sellers, but also buyers.  

One in particular was around 'AI flooding your funnel'.  

@Guy Rubin explains how AI-generated lead volume is overwhelming sellers with poorfit opportunities, lowering win rates and lengthening cycles. 

The answer isn't “more”. It’s smarter ICP discipline, and using AI to remove distraction, not create it.   

When the same tactic is used at mass, buyers become skeptical and you're back to the same problem of cutting through the 'AI' noise.

The noise around "AI for sales" is getting louder, but the signal matters more, especially if you're trying to figure out what's real versus what's just another tech pitch deck.

These are the real changes happening;

• AI agents moved from pilot to production (54% of sales orgs are now deploying AI agents across the full sales cycle, not just for email drafts). 

High performers are 1.7x more likely to use them for prospecting. The gap between early adopters and laggards is widening fast.

• Productivity isn't enough anymore.  Saving time sounds great until your board asks about revenue impact. 

Enterprise buyers are shifting from "efficiency metrics" to direct financial outcomes. If your AI can't connect to pipeline or retention, it's just expensive automation.


Data quality and integration aren't sexy, but they're the difference between AI that helps and AI that halts. 

No surprise that if your CRM is a mess, your agents will be too. And if your team doesn't trust the outputs, adoption dies soon after.

Monday Data drop incoming....

88% of organisations now use AI.
Only 24% of GTM teams say it's actually making a difference.
53% say it's done nothing.

The interesting part is the gap between the two has almost nothing to do with technology.

The 24% who are seeing real results aren't using some secret tool the rest of us don't have access to.

Here's what I expect they're doing:
They're embedding AI into actual workflows, not running it as a side experiment no one checks on.

Leadership owns the outcomes, not IT, not a "transformation taskforce" that meets every other Thursday.

They don't wait for perfect before they start. They iterate.

They measure what AI is doing. Not in theory, in pipeline, in conversion, in cycle time.

Meanwhile, the PwC Global CEO Survey this month found that only 12% of CEOs can point to both cost AND revenue benefits from their AI investments.

And yet, companies are planning to double their AI spend this year.
More money won't fix this. Better leadership will.

The leaders pulling ahead right now aren't the ones with the biggest tech stack. 

They're the ones who treat AI adoption the same way they'd treat any major change programme, with accountability, with coaching, with honest measurement, and with humans at the centre of it.

This is a people problem dressed up as a tech problem

Gong just launched AI that coaches your sales team from their own conversations.

That's not the interesting part.

The interesting part is what happens when the AI spots the problem 
better than the manager does.

The data is getting smarter. The humans are struggling to keep up.

Gong's Mission Andromeda can now reveal so much data, like the moment the deal started to slip three weeks before the forecast showed it.

All of it. Timestamped. Ready for a manager to act on.

And that's exactly where most organisations are about to hit a wall.

Surfacing the insight is the easy part. What happens next depends entirely on the human receiving it.

Does the manager use that data to develop their rep, or to manage 
them out?

Does the team trust that the AI feedback is fair, or does it create 
a culture of surveillance?

Does the CRO embed this into coaching conversations, or does it become another dashboard nobody opens?

AI can now see your sales team more clearly than they can see themselves.

The question isn't whether the technology works.

It's whether your leaders are emotionally equipped to do something useful with what it shows them.

That gap between the insight and the response is where behaviour changes.

NVIDIA just surveyed 3,200+ enterprises and the data is unambiguous:

88% report AI grew annual revenue (30% saw a >10% lift)
87% report AI cut costs
64% are actively using AI,  up from ~50% in 2025
86% are increasing AI budgets in 2026

And the #1 barrier holding organisations back?

38% say their biggest blocker is still a lack of AI expertise.

So we have a situation where the ROI case is overwhelming, the budgets are moving, and the main thing standing between organisations and results is... people.
Not the technology. The humans.

Which means if you're leading a GTM team, the real question isn't "should we invest in AI?" It's "do we have the right people to actually use it?"

The laggard window is closing faster than most leaders realise.

Perplexity just launched something called "Computer."
Not a chatbot upgrade. An autonomous agent that orchestrates 19 different AI models, research, design, code, deployment all from a single prompt.

You describe the outcome. Computer builds the task graph, assigns each piece to the right model, runs them in parallel, and pauses before doing anything sensitive.

This is like having a safe version of 'OpenClaw' without needing the tech know  how or security risks.

The CEO said: "It finally feels like I have a swarm of agents working for me." 

Your sales team is already doing this manually. Pulling data from one tool, insights from another, drafting in a third.

Multi-agent AI can now easily exist in your organisation.

The problem is most organisations don't have a clean enough workflow to hand to one agent, let alone nineteen.

First, OpenAI dropped GPT-5.4. "Their most capable model yet", built for professional work. 

This is a model designed to do the actual work your team spends hours on. Not chat. Work.

Then three days later, Microsoft unveiled Copilot Cowork.  As a Claude Cowork fan, I am most excited about this...

Here's the bit that made me stop scrolling. Microsoft built it on Anthropic's Claude technology. Not OpenAI. 
The company that poured $13 billion into OpenAI, chose its competitor's engine for the agentic feature in M365.

What does Copilot Cowork actually do? You describe an outcome. It builds a plan. It pulls from your emails, meetings, files, and Teams data. Then it executes across Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and the rest of your M365 stack. 

Not a single prompt-and-response. A long-running, multi-step workflow that keeps going while you do something else.

Meeting prep? It assembles the briefing doc, builds the deck, schedules the prep time, and drafts the follow-up email. From one request.

Microsoft is signalling that no single model provider wins everything. They're picking the best engine for each job. Your AI strategy should do the same.
The gap between "AI assistant" and "AI that executes" just closed. 

The companies that figure out how to delegate real work to AI agents won't just be more productive. They'll be structurally different organisations.

And that's the conversation your leadership team should be having right now.

The overwhelm of where to focus next, is a reoccurring theme for most people I speak with.

"I've just learnt how to prompt and now the technology has shifted to AI autonomous colleagues".

Here are three trends from this week that actually matter for Sales, Marketing, and RevOps:

→ LinkedIn became your new SEO battleground.
Citation frequency for LinkedIn content in AI chatbot responses doubled in recent months, making it the top domain for professional queries. When prospects ask ChatGPT or Claude about business problems, your thoughtful posts now outrank your website. This isn't "maybe" anymore, it's measurable influence.

→ AI agents are going from experiment to execution
40% of enterprise apps will embed task-specific AI agents by year-end (Gartner). These aren't glorified chatbots, they're systems that research accounts, score leads, write outreach, and update forecasts without you asking. 

The agentic AI market hits $11.79B this year. Your reps will soon have digital teammates handling the busywork that currently eats 60% of their day.

→ Your broken processes just became visible
85% of companies want to "go agentic" but 76% admit their operations aren't ready. AI doesn't fix messy data or unclear ownership, it amplifies it at scale. The gap is widening fast between teams who cleaned up their GTM foundation and those still running on duct tape and spreadsheets.

What to pay attention to:
