I've spent most of my career in content marketing, but have been going hard on product marketing these last few months at Reforge. Our PMs, designers and engineers are incredible and it's been so cool to see this happening behind the scenes. It's an insane amount of work and focus to bring a new product to life and iterate on it so quickly.

A pattern I keep seeing with AI prototyping. One early adopter in the org gets it. Then there's a canyon to get the next 10 people to adopt. The problem?

Too much friction. Every new person has to rebuild design patterns, gather company context, set up project details, and create starting templates. That's way too much activation energy to go through every single time.

Now when one person goes through the work to enable prototyping for part of the product, everyone else uses that as their starting point. The team gets faster and better at prototyping with every use.

The big picture I've been thinking about lately...Product execution has accelerated dramatically with Claude Code, Cursor, and others. If we don't accelerate Product Discovery to similar speeds, we'll end up drowning in product debt—lots of features, barely used by customers, creating massive maintenance costs.

I've been using AI iteratively — like an editor working with a writer — and I didn't realize that's not how most people work with it at all.

This came up in my conversation with Matan-Paul Shetrit in our latest episode of Humans of AI, and it opened up something I haven't heard anyone else talking about: the feedback culture gap.

I come from writing and theatre — both fields grounded in giving notes, taking direction, iterating toward a bigger vision. 

That's why I naturally treat AI like a collaborator, not a vending machine. But here's what struck me: even within creative fields, not everyone knows how to give good direction. Not all writers can provide editorial guidance that actually improves a piece. Not all actors know how to steer a performance toward the larger narrative.

That's why we have editors, directors, and managers. Specialized roles with specialized training.

And right now? We're about to make everyone a manager of AI agents — without teaching them any of those skills.
Matan reframed the entire AI conversation for me. He said if you deploy 10,000 agents into a 1,000-person company, you haven't automated tasks — you've created an 11,000-employee organization overnight. And most of us have never managed before.

The conversation went to some unexpected places:

→ Why his experience with dyslexia changed how he thinks about what AI is actually teaching us
 → The double standard we're applying to AI accuracy vs. human performance (this one stopped me cold)
 → What it means to supervise AI, not just observe it
 → Why accountability doesn't decrease with AI — it amplifies

But the thread that kept coming back was this: we're not just missing technical skills. We're missing the feedback culture required to manage effectively at scale. We're not teaching people how to direct, refine, and iterate — skills that creative fields have been developing for centuries.

If you're thinking about AI transformation or building hybrid teams, this conversation will reframe how you see the challenge. It certainly did for me.

Chicago was an experiment. Minnesota is a pilot program. What comes next is deployment at scale.

I live in a suburban Minnesota area with a high immigrant population. I meet the same profile as Renee Good — a queer, formerly married-to-a-man white woman with a blended family. Federal agents with full immunity are operating blocks from my home.

And the silence from the content marketing community is deafening.

Here's what I keep thinking about: we've spent years learning how to organize information, build coherent narratives from fragments, and make complex data accessible. We do this for product launches and quarterly reports.

Those exact same skills are what's needed right now to document what's actually happening — to organize witness testimony, create timelines from scattered accounts, identify patterns across incidents, preserve evidence that might be scrubbed.

This isn't about becoming an activist. This isn't about being on the front lines. This is about recognizing that the work you already know how to do matters beyond marketing campaigns.

My latest Neural Nuggets is about using AI as a documentation tool when official narratives can't be trusted. It's practical, it's tactical, and it includes a menu of options based on your bandwidth and risk tolerance.

Because you don't need to quit your job or transform your identity. You just need to be willing to redirect skills you already have.
