But today, technology isn’t just a support—it’s become an essential part of running a successful winery. It helps automate everyday tasks so you have more time to focus on what matters most: creating great wine. 

Here’s how you can start:

	1.	Think about where you’re spending the most time: Is it manually writing down orders, 
                 organizing customer contacts, or checking your stock levels? That’s a good place to start.

	2.	Pick user-friendly tools: Look for tools that don’t need a lot of training, like simple software to 
                manage sales or apps to track your barrels.

	3.	Experiment with one task: Start with just one thing—maybe a digital order system—and see how 
                it improves your day.

	4.	Get your team involved: Let them try the new tools at their own pace and show them how it 
                 makes their job easier.

You don’t need to overhaul everything. A few small changes can make a big difference, without losing the heart of your winery.

Off the back of my success on social media, in early 2023, I initiated my newsletter on Substack, establishing an online platform offering curated recommendations, valuable tips, insightful knowledge, and more. Monetisation is driven by paid subscribers who gain access to premium content behind the paywall. Within one year, we've amassed 17k free subscribers and 200 paid subscribers. Our goal over the next three years is to significantly expand our reach, aiming to establish ourselves as a globally recognised community in the world of wine.

Working through the Trainee Management scheme my final position was Senior Store Manager with a turnover of £2.4 million.
My responsibilities of the warehouse were to monitor and control the operational budget. Meeting monthly sales targets through controlling stock levels and organising high amounts of deliveries.

I managed  a portfolio of 15 accounts and seeked to establishing new business opportunities and gain regular custom, through organising and presenting external and internal wine tastings.

Liaising with the senior management team I had direct input into new company initiatives rolled out nationwide. I also was responsible for recruiting externally. I also had the responsibility of health and safety procedures.

During my time at Jet Chill I was responsible in generating new business and creating regular accounts through warm and cold leads.
One way was at trade events, I would lead the sales teams at high profile shows. At those shows I would run sales presentations and demonstrations, and then also to individual businesses at their sites.
I had freedom to contribute to the online marketing schemes using the feedback from the trade shows.
Other responsibilities were general ad hoc including chasing payments due from existing clients and keeping track of personal sales targets.

I left Majestic Wine in 2017 after five years working my way up the trainee management scheme.

The plan?

To start my own online wine business and develop my reputation and knowledge in the wine industry. 

The result?

Flunder Wines: has grown slowly but surely. Navigating Covid we supply to predominantly bespoke trade venues in Suffolk, host events and online retail. 

Personal brand: in 2020 I jumped on TikTok and my content was well received. As it stands I have over 200k followers on there, 130k followers on Instagrams while growing on all other major social platforms.

In 2023 I set up on Substack and I have 19k subscribers.
