I guess snarky social media managers can't save this fast food chain. 

It takes a lot more than a gimmicky, off-brand social media voice. 

The Wendy's Company missed the mark in a lot of ways...but the shift in social media voice just felt like it was trying too hard.

If they had built a business strategy and then used the newfound social media love to align with that strategy, that’s a win.

But they didn’t. There was no strategy. An impressions grab with no change to the actually business strategy.

Cracker Barrel failed where Dunkin' succeeded. 

Rebranding a beloved brand with a long history is challenging (to say the least). 

No shortage of outrage over multiple prominent brands trying to rebrand lately…

I’m sure the posts filled your feed like they filled mine. 

Dunkin' had a plan, though, and it worked. They avoided becoming a LinkedIn hot topic. 

It started quietly when the "Donuts" was removed from the brand name. 

No one noticed. Did you notice? I think I did, but honestly, I can’t remember because it was such a slick move. 

Next, they shifted from mostly orange, fast-food vibe color-scheme on their buildings to more of a coffee shop or cafe vibe, with orange now really only used in the logo. 

They kept it authentic (or comedically authentic anyway), hiring Ben Affleck and friends to represent the old school donut side.

But, this time they catered to a new audience. 

They made coffee a focus instead of an afterthought, and they seriously enhanced the food and beverage options. 

It’s not gourmet. It’s not your local cafe. But it’s attracting some serious business.

Revenue rose from nearly $8 billion in 2020 to over $16 billion in 2025. 

Rebranding isn't easy, but now and then, a brand does an amazing job. Those numbers aren’t an accident. 

If you're looking to rebrand, look to Dunkin' for inspiration. Don’t rush it. Get it right.
