I hear about this event called Slush that’s founded by students that’s now the biggest gathering of Venture Capital in the world

(Let that sink in) 

And it was right in my “backyard”, in Helsinki. 

I applied to volunteer there. Sustainability team.

During the event:

— I met cool new people & made new friends

— Learned that volunteering is hella fun

— Fell in love with Slush Magic (iykyk) ✨

and all without spending thousands of €€€ 

(I was a broke student 🤷🏻‍♂️)

I left wanting more. 

2021: I went to Slush again. Became a Group Lead. 

2022: I volunteered at Slush again.

And this year, I rose up to be a Team Lead.

(yay me)

Perfectly aligned with my ghostwriting ambitions. 

I now have a team of 4 legends. 

All are hungry ambitious young people like me that want to make a difference.

Just 1 week before I quit my job, Andreas, CEO of Shield, said 3 sweetest words a young guy like me could only wish for:

“Check your inbox :)”

There was a contract to sign.

You see, I’ve been following SHIELD and using their tool for 2 years then. 

They had a vibe and functionality. Their team was top-class. 

I wanted in. 

3 months of negotiations. I finally quit my job. They were open for business.   

When I finally got the role of Content Writer, I was tasked with one thing — keep the community engaged and build the brand’s authority further through their Company Page and part of the newsletter. 

Results?

I was able to:

- Cut down 1 hour of newsletter research
- Cut down 1 hour of newsletter writing (1,5 sections)

This freed up 2 hours for my teammate, Jaziel, to:

- Strategically place a fitting theme every week
- Focus on making sure the newsletter was headed where SHIELD wanted it to go. (time to reflect, and make more normative decisions moving forward)

We were able to keep a consistent opening rate between (50-57%) with a click rate of around 5-8%.

More than that, we were getting weekly newsletter love mentions.

Often from creators and profiles that would normally get unnoticed. 

Now, I apply the same mentality with my clients. 

I put them in the spotlight through the right stories and content. 

So they too can receive love mentions from their community (and make that $$$).

In 2021, I FINALLY landed a marketing role after being laid off 3 times from my bar job

Learned how to build systems, distribute & connect multiple channels.

Only about 200+ job applications in, I was referred to a Growth Manager, Rémy, that worked there.

From the start, I was thrown into the deep end. I had to conduct 5-10 growth experiments simultaneously for multiple marketing channels.

Our goal? Understanding where our resources were best spent.

My biggest problem was streamlining the entire process:

- Multiple social media channels
- New website & email automations
- Analyzing data & reporting it back to the team

I felt lost…

“What do I focus on?”

This was the wrong question to ask. The right one was:

“What experiment will bring the most result for our main objectives?”

See, I was afraid I lacked expertise. And I didn’t know yet how to use every system that was already in place.

Here’s what I did in the next 5 days:

- Analyzed what has and hasn’t worked before
- Checked which of the current experiments would bring the best results
- Laid out the step-by-step execution plan & time blocked it in my calendar

What’s the worst that could happen?

(Spoiler: As I was still an intern, I wouldn’t be promoted to my full-time role)

But as a result, I was praised for my proactiveness and we managed to gather valuable data on what channels to abandon entirely.

My biggest achievement was learning how to build systems, distribute & connect multiple channels.

Because of that I now always take a data-driven structured approach to solving complex problems. 

Juggling multiple elements at the same time felt challenging & chaotic but weirdly satisfying. 

Even though I had to constantly check in with the team.

About 1,5 years later, I felt that I reached my maximum potential in that role:

And eventually, I quit to start my current Ghostwriting business.

Before I found my 1st paid marketing role in 2021, I decided to volunteer. 

Instead of volunteering anywhere, I picked a local university’s Entrepreneurship Society.

(which explains my current entrepreneurial ambitions so well btw)

One of my biggest responsibilities as the Head of Marketing for me was running our events.

That meant:

- Finding speakers & partners for the events
- Creating content to promote the events
- Hosting the events

There was a week before the summer break, when we accelerated all the event production.

I ended up hosting 3 back-to-back webinars & workshops in a single week.

Main challenges?

→ Cross-promoting 3 events for 4-5 weeks prior across FB, IG, LinkedIn, and email

→ Dealing with last-minute delays, changes, and people not responding

The promotion was done in the priority approach, accelerating the volume of content the closer the events got.

The last-minute events required me to juggle both team, speaker, and partner communication pretty much 24/7.

I thought I was gonna lose it. Thankfully, our Community Manager was there to remind me that “We got it”.

….

How did I get through the week?

Simple. I just f*ckin did. 

Sometimes there are no fancy hero endings.

I did learn that event marketing is tough if you have no idea what you’re doing.

And I learned a whole lotta stress management techniques when things get hot.

When my 1-year term was done, I knew that the team was in the right hands.

(I may have hired specific people for the next HoM to avoid the headaches I had)

The Old Irish Pub

In 2020, I hit rock bottom:

→ No job
→ Ran out of savings
→ Stuck in a small town (Vaasa)

Then I accidentally saw a job ad:

“Looking for a bartender. The Old Irish Pub.”

I thought it was the pub in Vaasa as it just opened.

Sent my application & resume

Got the response back:

“We’d love to interview you!”

Only the email address was from The Old Irish Pub Helsinki

“Helsinki?! It’s 4,5h away from us”

3 days later, I went to Helsinki, aced the interview, and moved there completely within 2 weeks.

And oh boy, what a job it was:

→ Constant night shifts
→ Lifestyle that drained my health
→ Dealing with less desirable customers we had to call ‘guests’

There were of course good moments too: met some of my best friends there & the love of my life. 

But in the 2nd month, sh*t really hit the fan. 

We called it the ‘Copenhagen Night’ as everything you could imagine happening at a bar, happened that night:

- Broken glass & me getting cut
- Rude guests & me getting screamed at
- More drink orders we could handle & me chugging Red Bulls

And I had to train 2 new runners

Looking back, I always ask myself “How the hell did I manage to get through the night?”

My honest answer?

The adrenaline I had + the caffeine I drank made me feel like a machine.

In a single night I:

- Got glass cuts 6 times
- Drank 3 Red Bull cans
- Served 100+ drinks & cocktails
- Served at least twice no. of shots
- Managed at least 5 very drunk guests
- Taught the runners how to thrive on busy nights
- Ruled the kitchen with my teammate constantly supplying the bar with glasses

It was chaos. I hated the cuts. But I loved the adrenaline rush.

Now, whenever things get intense, I look back at my bar job.

And I always remind myself:

“You could’ve been doing it at night, exhausted, and getting multiple cuts all over your hands. Keep going.”

As I completed my 6-month internship at Recright and switched to a full-time role, there was no space or energy left in me to work at the pub.

This week was the toughest week of 2025 for me.

On Tuesday, Linda and I made a gut-wrenching decision to euthanise Pedro, our adopted cat of 5 years.

He’s been suffering from bladder cancer, chronic kidney disease, heart arrhythmia, and bad teeth.

We got him to the vet way too late and couldn’t fix any of it without making some other part worse. So, for 6 months we hoped he’d hold on…

…but his time had come.

Pedro was by my side for every part of my LinkedIn and business journeys:

→ When I just started posting on LinkedIn
→ When I had the best revenue months
→ When I closed my biggest clients
→ When I had my first speaking gig
→ When I made my first $$$ online
→ When I made my first $10,000
→ When I made my first $5,000
→ When I was at my lowest
→ When I doubted myself
→ When I lost clients
→ When I quit my job

All of it.

He was the first proper pet I’ve ever owned. And he’s the first one I’ve ever had to euthanize.

And god damn that hurts.

Knowing that our house is quiet now. Or that stinging guilt for not getting him checked sooner. Or regret for every time I yelled at him cuz he’d puke on the carpet for the 1,000th time.

He was a very gentle lap cat, quite a bit of a clinger, and always demanded food. He annoyed the crap out of my at times with his meowling. But he was my companion regardless.

Linda and I miss him every minute of every day.

And if you’ve followed me for over a year, you’ve seen him around.
Which is why I wanted to share this with you.

If there’s any lesson here at all it’s this - get your pets regularly checked with the vet. Losing them is heartbreaking.

Today is my 27th birthday 🎂

A daughter and her father were walking on a beach covered in washed-up algae.

She asked him one simple question.

That question turned into a patented technology that's now saving the world's oceans.

Meet Sina and Dr. Guido Albanese, the father-daughter duo behind Koralo.

Here's what I learned from their story that every climate founder should know:

1/ The best innovations start with childlike curiosity about what nature shows us.

During that beach walk, Sina looked at the algae covering the shore and asked her father: "Can't we create something amazingly delicious and nutritious with this?"

That one question sparked Koralo - a company developing vegan seafood alternatives that mimic nature's own food chain.

Don't overlook what's right in front of you. Nature has already solved most of our problems. We just need to ask better questions.

2/ Pair complementary expertise, not identical backgrounds.

Sina brought:

• Serial entrepreneurship (started her first company in high school, a reusable notebook to combat paper waste)
• 2 more startups in fashion and AgTech
• Global Project and Change Management training from the Netherlands

Guido brought:

• 25+ years leading R&D, operations, and sales for FMCG multinationals
• Deep food industry expertise across startups and scale-ups worldwide

One had the vision and hustle. The other had the execution and industry knowledge. Together, they filled each other's gaps perfectly.

3/ Mimic nature's processes, not just the end product.

They developed the world's first patented co-fermentation technology combining microalgae and mycelium (mushroom roots) to create New F!sh.

It replicates the ocean's food chain (small fish eat algae, bigger fish eat them) but replaces the fish with fermentation. The result keeps all the nutrients (omega-3s, complete protein, vitamins B2 and B12) and flaky texture while leaving actual fish in the ocean.

4/ Real impact is measured in what you eliminate, not just what you create.

Their production process compared to conventional fish farming:

• 96% less CO2 emissions
• 98% less water usage
• 94% less land required
• 100% of fish left in the ocean

They've already won 1st prize at the Korea Startup Grand Challenge, hit 5,000L production, launched in Seoul restaurants, and expanded to both Europe and Asia.

As Sina puts it: "We're enriching the choice of seafood we eat and with that, the life in our oceans."

I’ve been posting on LinkedIn every single day for the last 200+ days.

It’s not my first time. But it feels different.

Here are 3 interesting observations I never noticed before:

1/ It takes me 5-30min to write a post.

Ironically, the most time-consuming part is pairing a post with the right visual. Can’t slap my pretty face to every post anymore.

2/ I don’t batch for more than a week.

Every week, I publish 7x LinkedIn posts and send 1-3 emails to my list. Pair that with 6 retainer clients who need 22x posts per week and i simply don’t have the capacity to think longer.

3/ I look forward to posting again.

If you didn’t know, I actually fell out of love with LinkedIn for a while. But I signed up for Typeshare and the daily streak system made me…addicted. I like it as it keeps me accountable.

And if you’re thinking to yourself:

“Damn, I want to post daily too!”

You don’t have to. Seriously.

I do it because:

→ It’s part of my job
→ It’s my business’ main channel
→ I’ve been doing this LinkedIn thing for almost 5 years

If you want to give it a go, be my guest.

But you can totally win on LinkedIn by posting 3-5x per week instead.

In fact, I have some founders I work with get the best results by posting just 3x/week. Enough to stay present and share in-depth thought leadership content. And enough not to overwhelm them and their network.

How often do you post now?

PS. When I say daily I mean weekends and holidays too.

PPS. Pedro (my older cat) is no longer with us, so Hugo (chunky boy to the right) is my new full-time content supervisor.

99% of networking events in Helsinki are not worth my time. Why?

For context: I'm a 26yo immigrant dude from Russia who's lived in Finland for now 9 years.

I run my own 1-person agency. I'm into climate, philosophy, and gaming (nerd alert).

When you fly solo, there's one resource you can't just spend left and right.

Time.

For that reason, most events in Helsinki just don't do it for me:

- Wrong energy (i.e. too corporate)
- Wrong crowd (i.e. only in-house marketers)
- Wrong ROI (i.e. a few nice greetings, but that's it)

Meridian was the exception.

It had exactly what I needed:

- Tons of foreigners
- All around the same age as me
- Small founders & entrepreneurs
- Organisers who weren't afraid to be unserious

I genuinely feel like Helsinki is missing more of that.

Does Helsinki need fresher, more international entrepreneur-aligned events?

PS. I also welcome any and all recommendations on events and folks who organize them that I might not be aware of. I've mostly been working from home for the past 2.5 years and haven't been much out in the 'wild' lol.

These Finnish researchers met at a supercomputing center and started making food from thin air.

Now they've opened the world's 1st commercial air-protein factory.

Meet Dr. Pasi Vainikka and Dr. Juha-Pekka Pitkänen, Co-Founders of Solar Foods.

The perfect scientific partnership:

Pasi brought expertise in renewable energy systems, understanding how to make future energy carbon neutral.

Juha-Pekka brought his PhD in bioprocess engineering, mastering how microorganisms convert resources into valuable products.

While working at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland in 2014, they had a sobering moment:

Making energy carbon-neutral wasn't enough.

One-quarter of humanity's carbon footprint comes from food production. Agriculture occupies 40% of habitable land. Livestock farming drives deforestation.

What if we could disconnect food production from agriculture entirely?

The solution:

In 2017, they spun out Solar Foods with a radical idea: produce protein using only CO2, water, electricity, and a proprietary microorganism.

No farms.
No rain.
No arable land.

Only air and renewable energy.

Their product, Solein, is a complete protein powder that works in everything from pasta to meat alternatives to dairy-free yogurt.

Today, Solar Foods has:

→ Opened Factory 01, the world's first commercial-scale air-protein facility (April 2024)
→ Producing 160 tons of Solein annually
→ Raised €43M+ in equity and secured €110M in EU grants
→ Won NASA's Deep Space Food Challenge (feeding astronauts)
→ Achieved regulatory approval in Singapore
→ Planning IPO on Helsinki Stock Exchange

Their impact is staggering:

🌍 10x more land-efficient than soy protein
🌍 100-300x more sustainable than meat production
🌍 Factory produces same daily protein as 300-cow dairy farm
🌍 Works in deserts, Arctic regions, even space

One quote that captures their vision:

"Just like with quantum computers, it's no longer a question of will cellular agriculture become a thing: it's evident that it will. The question is more about who leads the charge."

I’ve talked to 1,000+ founders this year and 99% have the same problem:

LinkedIn headline that’s written ‘clever’, not clear.

What this means:

→ Someone sees your post
→ Clicks on your profile
→ They read your headline
→ And then leave

Because they have no idea what you actually do.

And they got more important things to do.

(translation = you failed to keep their attention)

Here are 3 headline elements every tech founder needs to have:

1/ Call out WHO you help in the first 47 characters.

Noticed how not the whole headline is shown when you see someone’s post or comment? That’s your 47 characters.

If you want to attract, for example, solar installers making $20m+ ARR, then guess what? Call them out!

2/ Be clear on WHAT problem you’re solving.

The key here is to be tangible and specific.

Poor WHAT = we help you grow your business.
Better WHAT = we help diversify your solar business with service revenue so you survive beyond the ITC.

3/ Add credibility as to why anyone should listen to you.

This one’s often undervalued because not everyone is an award-winning founder of a unicorn startup. You have no credibility otherwise, right?

WRONG

Credibility comes in many forms:

→ Hours spent studying/working/building
→ Awards you’ve won or got nominated for
→ Business & revenue milestones
→ Number of clients you’ve served
→ Impact numbers, i.e. X tons of textile waste diverted

You’re just too shy to share it, aren’t you?

And here’s a simple formula you can use and tweak to your own style:

“Helping [target customer] achieve [desired outcome] without [common headache] | [credibility] | [Title]”

If you’re a more established brand, you can move the title to the front.

By 2050, climate change will wipe out 50% of the world's coffee farmland. Yet demand will triple.

These two founders are making coffee without coffee beans.

Meet Jake Berber and Ding Jie Tan, Co-Founders of Prefer.

The perfect founder pairing:

Jake, a former neuroscientist turned food tech VC, came to Singapore in 2022 for an MBA exchange program. He planned to stay one semester.

Ding Jie, known in Singapore circles as the "Prince of Fermentation," was already running a consultancy creating fermented products for Michelin-starred restaurants like Labyrinth and top cocktail bars.

They met at the Entrepreneur First accelerator and immediately connected over fermentation technology.

The problem they saw:

Coffee has the 6th-highest carbon footprint of any crop globally. Climate change is destroying coffee farms. Yet demand is expected to triple by 2050, especially in China and India.

Traditional coffee won't survive. So they built an alternative.

Their idea?

Prefer makes Asia's first bean-free coffee by fermenting upcycled food waste:

🍞 Day-old bread from Gardenia
🌱 Soy pulp from Mr Bean
🌾 Spent barley from local breweries

Their 48-hour fermentation process creates aromatic compounds identical to traditional coffee beans.

Compare that to 5 years for coffee plants to bear fruit.

The impact:

→ 85% lower CO2 emissions than traditional coffee
→ 50% more affordable than current Arabica prices
→ Zero reliance on climate-vulnerable coffee farms
→ Transforms food waste into high-value products

In just 3 years, they've:

→ Raised $6.2M total funding (including $4.2M oversubscribed pre-Series A)
→ Expanded to 14+ F&B outlets across Singapore
→ Secured partnerships in Thailand (Ajinomoto) and Australia (The Coffee Ferm)
→ Pivoted to B2B, now supplying FMCG brands and food manufacturers
→ Developing cocoa-free chocolate next

"We're not asking people to abandon traditional coffee, but to expand their horizons and participate in shaping a more sustainable future for coffee culture."

Most people think climate solutions must be massive infrastructure projects. Jake and Ding Jie are rethinking everyday products that can have an extraordinary impact.

They're now expanding their portfolio to other climate-threatened crops: cocoa, vanilla, and hazelnut.

How often should you post on LinkedIn?

The answer is actually simple:

The more you post = the faster you grow.

"But but but Roman, what if I post 1x/week?"

→ Better than not posting
→ You'll get buried quickly though
→ Don't expect much in terms of results

"But but but Roman, what if I post rarely and my content goes viral?"

→ It happens here and there
→ But it's not a common practice
→ Don't use an outlier example to build your content strategy

"But but but Roman, I don't want to be spammy!"

→ Not everyone reads every post of yours
→ It's not spammy if you share helpful content
→ You just binged your fav show in one weekend, how is this different?

My rule of thumb for clients I work with:

Want to see results within 3-6 months?
→ 5x/week is your go-to cadence

Don't care about metrics & just want to be present?
→ 3x/ week is more than enough

How often would you be comfortable posting?

PS. You could also post daily, 7x/week, Mon-Sun, but none of my clients have ever needed that.

My 7 rules for staying calm when life gets uncertain (these are my non-negotiables):

1/ When I feel panic rising, I open a Notes app and write out every variable I can control.

2/ I train 5–7x per week. Lifting clears mental fog and redirects my emotions.

3/ I study Stoicism daily. Usually one short passage from Meditations or The Daily Stoic, then apply it to whatever pissed me off that day.

4/ I write every day. Great practice to reflect, articulate my thoughts, and beat Carolene Meli in Typeshare streak.

5/ I'm strict on boundaries. Whether that means saying 'no' to an invite, a client, or a voice in my head saying 'I'm supposed to work 14h/day'.

6/ I plan my days and weeks ahead. If it's not in my calendar the day before, it doesn't exist or get done.

5 employer brand storytelling tactics for climate brands

Reporting news on LinkedIn is easy. But creating content that gets you remembered? Few can do it.

Here’s a framework I use for a client who raised $110m+ in 4 years:

Timely vs. Timeless Content.

Timely content:

→ Gets you likes
→ Can't be reused ever again
→ Make you relevant for a week
→ Forces you to think of new ideas all the time

Timeless content:

→ Still uses industry updates & news
→ But it's not the main focus
→ It's the main points inside
→ Easy to repurpose forever

So, how do you turn Timely content into Timeless?

1/ Use the industry update as a hook.

For example:

"A new report by EAT Lancet shows 50% of coffee farmland will be gone by 2050..."

2/ Add evergreen main points.

For example:

"3 reasons major investors across ASEAN are betting on bean-free coffee alternatives:

Reason 1
Reason 2
Reason 3"

3/ Ask yourself, "Can I repurpose it in 6, 12, 24 months for it to still be relevant?"

If not, then you're putting too much emphasis on the news.

I'm tired of seeing the same recycled viral videos OTHER people's innovation. Sure, curated content like that gets likes. Who does't like to see the Ocean Cleanup or Notpla or those co-founders making bricks out of textile waste?
But this content doesn't get you remembered.

You're just another account reusing the same content everyone does chasing vanity and spotlight.

You can do better.

I've been practicing Stoicism for 2+ years, and most of my problems are just stories I tell myself.

Here are 3 ways I use Stoicism to grow my small business:

1/ Control what I can, ignore what I can't.

Epictetus said: "We cannot choose our external circumstances, but we can always choose how we respond to them."

Prospect ghosted after 3 follow-ups?
Maybe they’re busy. Don’t freak out.

Client didn’t show for a call?
Maybe they’re stuck in traffic.

Client lost 50% of their revenue due a large industry shift?

Try to downsell. I can’t control their business.

This mindset shift freed up 5+ hours per week I used to spend overthinking rejections.

2/ Focus on systems over outcomes.

Seneca wrote: "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity."

This leads to:

→ Prioritising quality in client fulfilment daily (controllable)
→ Posting 7x per week regardless of engagement (controllable)
→ Refining my outreach every month based on feedback (controllable)

Revenue became a byproduct, not the goal.

3/ Treat setbacks as data.

Marcus Aurelius once wrote: "Choose not to be harmed—and you won't feel harmed. Don't feel harmed—and you haven't been."

Worst case, a client churns and I learn exactly what not to offer next time.

Best case, I spot the pattern early and pivot my positioning before it tanks my pipeline.

Either way, I'm building a better business.

What happens when a packaging engineer and an architect meet at design school?

They quit to create packaging that disappears and wins Prince William's £1M Earthshot Prize.

Meet Pierre-Yves Paslier and Rodrigo García González, Co-Founders and Co-CEOs of Notpla.

→ Two different paths, one shared frustration:

Pierre-Yves started as a packaging engineer at L'Oréal in Paris. One project haunted him: redesigning glass face cream jars into plastic to achieve a "premium feel." The redesign created 30 tonnes of extra plastic waste per year.

Rodrigo came from architecture with an early focus on plastic waste and material reuse.

In 2014, they met while studying Innovation Design Engineering at Imperial College London and the Royal College of Art.

→ The kitchen experiment:

That same year, they made an edible water bubble in Rodrigo's kitchen with a membrane made entirely from seaweed.

They posted a video. It went viral.

The student project became their mission: make packaging disappear.

They noticed that fruit peels biodegrade in weeks. They wanted all packaging to do the same.

In 2014, they founded Notpla (short for "not plastic").

→ The idea:

Seaweed-based packaging that biodegrades naturally in 4-6 weeks with no composting facility required.

Scaling from kitchen to industrial production took years of trial and error.
"I think it's hugely complex to take those natural innovations outside of the lab and commercialize them at scale," Pierre-Yves admits. "We're very proud of having shown that it worked."

The persistence paid off.

Today, Notpla has:

→ Raised £47M+ in total funding (including £20M Series A+ in September 2024)
→ Won Prince William's £1M Earthshot Prize (2022) and Tom Ford Plastic Innovation Prize (2023)
→ Replaced 16 million single-use plastic items across Europe
→ Secured partnerships with Just Eat, Compass Group, Decathlon, and Heinz
→ Became the first company certified "plastic-free" under EU Single-Use Plastics Directive
→ Targeting 100M+ units annually within 2 years

Their product line now includes seaweed-coated takeaway boxes, edible liquid bubbles (Ooho), flexible films, and seaweed paper.

7 Steps to Articulate Your Climate Mission Across LinkedIn

Google just dropped the biggest AI update that will change the way you create organic content.

Over the weekend, I was going over the industry reports - and I found something juicy.

You know that nice AI summary Google puts together for you whenever you search for any information?

Well, most of the time they’re so good, you don’t need to click on anything to get an answer.

And if you don’t click on any webpage it doesn’t get that traffic.

That means if you’re investing in:

→ SEO content (blogs, guides, etc.)
→ Paid ads to your page
→ Fancy new website

Hoping someone clicks won’t work anymore. Expect an up to 50% drop in organic traffic.

So, what CAN you do?

Build a funnel you can control.

A beginner version is:

→ Organic LinkedIn content 3-5x/week
→ Link to your sales pages in the comments

An intermediate version:

→ Organic LI content
→ Link to a lead magnet
→ Nurture via a newsletter

An advanced version is the above, plus:

→ A book-a-call sequence
→ A newsletter welcome sequence
