I find myself using the word "baffled" a lot lately.

It's a fun word to say. Try it! Also, it encompasses my perpetual state of bemused confusion quite well.

I went to graduate school just as AI was on the rise, so I got the opportunity to deeply study how it was impacting human-to-human communication. For three years now, I've watched the research and reports roll out -- on what AI can do well and what companies are choosing to use it for.

When you look at those reports side by side ... well, you would use the word "baffled" too.

Why would you pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for technology that costs your company millions in lost revenue? (Not to mention a terrible Glassdoor rating.) But then shrug your shoulders at AI that costs a fraction of that, and enables your sales team to sell twice the product?

I'm baffled. 

So when I talked to Meridian recently about their AI-powered CRM for private markets, I got excited. Automatically enriched company and contact data? Now THAT is a use case I can get behind. 

Other founders I've recently talked to doing work I think will actually HELP companies? Question Base turns your Slack into a searchable knowledge base. Emergent Methods products help you find news sources *and vet them* so you're publishing valid information in your content. Bast AI is proving that AI can and should be explainable and traceable; and improving healthcare outcomes by augmenting provider expertise and giving patients a better experience.

Along with all of the negative disruption, there is some really cool stuff happening in AI. My hope is, now that the revenue hit has happened, companies will turn away from replacing humans and toward *enabling employees*.
