Here is how I'd pitch influencers to a B2B company whose senior team doesn't get it...

📍  Call them evangelists
📍  Don't call it social media. Call it channels.
📍 Refer to them as megaphones for company messages, but with built in content.

Removes:
❌  biases that influencer aren't authentic or are just for B2C
❌  gives them a pathway to new audiences 
❌  any bias about social media not being a real place for marketing when you say channels (podcast, radio, mag & social media are all channels.) 

It's not trickery. 
It's the truth, just repackaged. 
Afterall, that's what marketing is...

A year ago, we had a new client (an old school media agency) who sold in influencers as part of the plan...and put a 15x return on each influencers.

No content, no rationale, no paid support.

Hold the phone, folks. It's not that simple.

If those returns were guaranteed all money would immediately move to influencers and marketing departments would shut down.

Effective marketing involves strategy. Influencers are part of it.

Luxury isn’t dying. It’s being re-coded. Gen Z isn’t rejecting premium goods, they’re rejecting the old mechanisms of how luxury signaled value.

Two shifts are driving the recalibration:
1️⃣ Scarcity sits in the room, not the scroll
2️⃣ Status sits in the long run, not the haul
Together, they’re changing how people shop, own, flex, and sustain.

1. The Store Returns as a Cultural Stage
Physical retail now feels more luxurious than digital. Not because online is bad, but because digital flattened access. IRL brings back:
✨ hierarchy
✨ taste
✨ discovery

Hence the rise of: queue culture, “only in-store” drops, RSVP retail, speakeasy storefronts, membership shopping and proof-of-attendance posting.

For younger luxury consumers, showing up is the flex.

Traditional funnels assume a clean journey (awareness → purchase). But Gen Z doesn’t progress — they circulatethrough fields: sneakers, beauty, art, nightlife, luxury, wellness.

Retail becomes the entry point, not the endpoint.

2. Durable Value & the Rise of Care as Status
Luxury is also renegotiating time. Value is shifting from “newest” to longest lasting — across materials, design, relationships, and story.

Signals of this shift are everywhere: repair culture, resale, archival fashion, anti-dupe sentiment, certified pre-owned programs and heirloom positioning.

Durability has become a taste marker. Stewardship a flex.

Progress isn’t only upgrade culture, it’s continuity culture.
In a disposable world, what endures feels luxurious.
