I grew up around medicine. My parents built one of the largest cancer and OB/GYN research centers in the country, Meridian, which they later sold after years of groundbreaking work. From them, I learned two things early on: the value of relentless dedication to a mission, and the reality that even the most accomplished physicians often struggle to create financial security once they retire.

The best lessons in my career did not come from books.

I have been thinking a lot about the inches in life.

Not the miles people celebrate.
Not the milestones that get applause.
The inches no one ever sees.

The inch between wanting to quit
and choosing to try again.

The inch between a closed door
and the courage to knock one more time.

The inch between being misunderstood
and standing your ground anyway.

That is where the real battle happens.

Life does not break you all at once.
It breaks you slowly.
An inch here.
An inch there.
Until you hardly recognize the person you wanted to become.

And then one day something inside says,
“Not like this.”

So you start crawling.
Through fatigue.
Through doubt.
Through fear that feels heavier than your own body.

You fight for one inch of light.
Then another.
And another.

And without noticing, you eventually rise on the same ground
that once felt impossible to escape.

That is growth.
Not motivation.
Not luck.
Just someone refusing to surrender the inches no one else pays attention to.

If you’re in that place now — tired, stretched thin, unsure —
stop looking at the miles.

Look for the inch in front of you.

And it reminded me of something I learned the hard way in commercial real estate.

Early in my career, I believed deals were won by spreadsheets, underwriting, and negotiation.

I thought the smartest person in the room always ended up leading it.

I was wrong.

Investors follow the operator who remains calm when everything is moving.
Partners follow the person who can create safety when numbers shift.

Brokers return to the buyer who listens before reacting.

Real estate is not just about assets.
It is about atmosphere.

It is about the environment you create around you.

When a deal gets messy, people watch how you behave.
When timelines slip, they watch how you speak.
When markets change, they watch how you think.

That is when trust is built.
Not during the wins.
But in the quiet moments in between.

That is how you attract long term partners.
That is how you earn repeat investors.
