State of Alaska

I was elected to serve House District 16 in November 2022. I am currently the only mom in the legislature with an infant or toddler and care deeply about being a voice for families and the challenges they face. 

My legislation centers on LGBTQ+ equality, paid family leave, and mental health. I served on the Resources, State Affairs, Energy, Arctic Policy, and Tribal Affairs committees over the course of my two legislative sessions.

Accomplishments include: 

🍄 Passing a bill to establish a Psychedelic Medicine Task Force. I spent a year and a half working to educate people across the state about the coming medicalization of MDMA & psilocybin & the profound impact it can have on our state.

💰 One of four people to pass a budget amendment (out of 130+!) to expand the free lunch program in Alaska. 

🙅🏻‍♀️ Led a 17-hour filibuster against a harmful anti-trans bill

🏳️‍🌈 Made huge strides on paid family leave and LGBTQ+ equality. I always made sure that working families & those who are marginalized have a voice & a seat at the table. I held the first-ever LGBTQ+ fly-in, which included our Governor meeting with 7 LGBTQ+ Veterans & 2 trans kids and their parents. We also recorded a video with Portugal, The Man for my bill, HB99.

💅🏼 I told a dad joke during a special order, read two Rilke poems for an invocation, and rocked sequin cowboy boots (and played with the power of fashion in other ways).

🗞️ I am perhaps most proud of the work done behind the scenes, often led by my incredible staff, to stop bad legislation from advancing and change narratives in the media.

Borealis is a two-month community-centered experience for 16 remote workers to live, work, and play in Alaska. 

Living together in downtown Anchorage, participants will find instant community as they experience a uniquely sub-Arctic and urban way of life. During the workweek (or any other time), Borealis cohorts will have access to a local coworking space so that their professional lives don’t skip a beat. 

And during nights and weekends, Borealis will connect cohorts with Anchorage community events and facilitate excursions into Alaska’s world-class backcountry.

Our first book was How To Survive Today by poet Tonya Ingram. Part-journal, part-illustrated book of poetry, all a love letter to those on a journey of self-discovery. This intentionally crafted book was designed to support people in finding healing, self-love, and joy. 

We are proud to have launched the Support Black Poetry campaign and 30 Days of Self-Care program in conjunction with the release of this book.
