Like many of us do, I've been thinking about my diet in January - less sugar, more protein.

Which made me realise this is how smart creators should think about video vs audio.

Video is the sugar rush: Quick discovery, instant dopamine, high stimulation. YouTube's "Creative Maximalism" - a high-speed, visually chaotic aesthetic designed to arrest attention that grabs eyeballs fast.

Audio is the protein: Deep retention, sustained engagement, conversion fuel. When someone gives you 45 minutes of attention, that intimacy translates to commercial trust.

Oxford Road's data backs this up: audio-only ads convert 25% better than YouTube video ads.

And before that Acast's "Podcast Pulse 2025" report found that 85% of listeners switch between audio and video, but audio remains the space where they build the "strongest connection" and deep trust.  

Additionally, the Signal Hill Insights/Cumulus Media report confirmed that YouTube is the #1 platform for discovery (44% of new US audiences start there).

The strategy isn't either/or. It's both, strategically:
→ Use video for discovery (the sugar that gets people to try you)
→ Use audio for loyalty (the protein that builds lasting relationships)

Your 2026 content diet should include both. Just know which does what.
