This week had some miles on it.

Charleston, WV — cheering on Harry.
A drive to London to get Bridget settled back at school.
Client meetings stacked at the tail end of RRSP season.
A late-night airport pickup in Buffalo for Jack, home for a few days.

A lot of driving.
A lot of responsibility.
A lot of “be where you need to be.”

But right in the middle of it all…

Raptors vs. Spurs.

Midweek.
Unexpected.
Exactly what I needed.

Met up with an old friend I’ve known for years.
No agenda.

The Raptors may have lost,
but the night was still a win.

But there’s another piece people quietly neglect.

You.

The friendships that existed before the titles.

• My mom
Although she’s no longer with us, she was the definition of resilience and unconditional love and was the rock of our family.

• My mother-in-law – Sheila
A pillar of strength and kindness whose love and wisdom have influenced so many people in her life and continue to guide and shape our family… and me.

• My colleagues, clients, and friends
Too many to name — women who do amazing things and are breaking barriers while paving the way for themselves and the next generation.

Women juggle more than we’ll ever fully see.

And somehow…
they make it look effortless.

So today I just want to say:

I see you.

Today would have been my mom’s 76th birthday.

She passed on July 14, 2019.

The last seven months of her life, she lived with us.

Having a parent back under your roof... with the roles subtly shifting,
changes how you see everything.

It’s humbling.
And clarifying.

But something else happened in those months.

She got extra time with her three grandkids.

Ordinary days that turned into closer moments.
Conversations that wouldn’t have happened otherwise.
Memories they’ll carry long after the details fade.

More time.
More proximity.
More connection.

Her last few years weren't easy.

She wasn’t loud about what she carried.
She just carried it.

Family. Responsibility. Hard seasons.
All of it.

Living together in those final months wasn’t always easy.
But I wouldn’t trade that time for anything.

Quiet conversations.
Shared meals.
Moments I didn’t know were the last of their kind.

Back in 2012, I was interviewed about my daily routine and some of the habits that shaped my days.

Some of those habits have stayed with me.

Some drifted as life and business got busier.

And some of them…

I’m now working my way back to.

The funny thing about routines is that when they’re working, everything feels steadier.

Clearer.

Not perfect.

Just… better.

I thought it might be fun to share that old interview here as a carousel.

Not because the routine is perfect.

But because sometimes the things that worked once…

are still worth returning to.

My Morning Routine 2012

You’ll make $47 million in your career.

But your family may never actually feel it.

Met a 42-year-old partner recently.
Earning $1.45M today.

We ran the numbers.
Over the next 23 years,
even if his income grows 3% a year,
he’ll earn about $47 million.

On paper, that’s a very impressive sum.

In real life?

It depends on what those years quietly cost you.

There will always be:
Another push.
Another file.
Another year to lock in.
Another reason to keep going.

And, for a long time, that will feel responsible.
Disciplined.
Driven.

And it is.

Until one day you look up…

The kids are grown.
The house is quieter.
And you realize the income scaled…
but the margin didn’t.

Not because you failed.

Because no one ever showed you how to structure it differently.

No one sets out intending to trade time for income forever.

It just happens gradually.
Year by year.
Raise by raise.
Expectation by expectation.

And by the time it really hits you…

I see this all the time with partners five to ten years into equity.

It sneaks up on them.

Income grew.

as you worked for it.

You’re not hoping things hold together.

You know they will.

That’s control.

Here’s how to show up with confidence when it matters most 👇

🎯 1️⃣ Focus on serving, not performing

When you’re in front of senior leaders, it’s easy to fall into “please like me” mode

But your job isn’t to impress — it’s to inform, guide, and create clarity

Shift your mindset from 

“How do I sound?” 
to 
“How can I help them make better decisions?”

When you focus on service, the pressure fades and your confidence rises

🧠 2️⃣ Anticipate tough questions

Executives will challenge you — not to trip you up, but to test the strength of your ideas

Anticipate it before you step in

Ask yourself:

If I were in their seat, what would I question or push back on?

Practice answering those out loud — the goal isn’t to script, but to strengthen your thinking

Preparation turns tough questions into opportunities to build credibility

🥊 3️⃣ Use AI as your sparring partner

Don’t just rehearse — pressure-test

Upload your deck to an AI tool and ask:

“What are the toughest questions or weakest assumptions in this presentation?”

AI can notice blind spots, challenge your logic, and help you refine your message before it's game time

It’s like having a truth-teller on your prep team

🧩 4️⃣ Think and speak in frameworks

The fastest way to sound clear and credible? Structure your ideas

Try this: What → Why → So What

What is the point

Why it matters

So what does it mean for the business

Frameworks stop rambling, keep your story tight, and make it easy for busy execs to follow your thinking

✨ True confidence isn’t about flawless delivery
It’s about clarity, structure, and serving your audience with purpose
