There’s a lot of news and uncertainty about the Middle East right now.

Naturally, friends and colleagues have been checking in asking if things feel tense here in Dubai.

Honestly? From where I’m sitting, the atmosphere feels different from the headlines. Of course people are somewhat scared, we're human but.....

What has stood out most is the level of organisation and calm.

Authorities, hotels and services have clearly worked together to make sure people who are temporarily stranded have somewhere to stay, food available, and support if needed.

In uncertain moments, how a place looks after people says a lot.

And I have to say, seeing the level of coordination here has been impressive.

We all have THOSE days, you know the ones...


Where you should have stayed in bed.
☔ It’s raining.
🚂 The train’s delayed.
🚗 You accidentally nudge the car in front of you… hello insurance claim (yep that was my start 😞 ).... 

Nothing catastrophic.
Just… everything slightly off, they test you but somehow you ADAPT

Because in sales and in business, adaptation is everything.
😱 Deals fall through.
🌪️ Buyers go quiet.
📉 Budgets get pulled.
That “certain” close suddenly isn’t.

The people who last aren’t the ones who avoid bad days.
They’re the ones who adjust quickly.

✅ Reset the tone.
✅ Control what they can.
🏃 Keep moving.

Adaptability is a crucial sales skill. One many talk about but struggle to master.

Because it’s easy to perform when momentum is on your side.

It’s much harder when everything feels slightly against you.

Those were the words said to me by someone when I decided to join forces with an ex-colleague and “go alone.”

You might just surprise the people who told you that you couldn’t.

Founders are you hiring your first CRO? You may want to read this.... 


A CRO won’t fix a broken go to market.
They WILL expose it.

Too many founders think hiring a CRO means:
“Great that's the revenue sorted.”
It's not.

Your first CRO isn’t there to “motivate the team.”
They’re there to build a revenue engine.
That means:
– Pressure testing your ICP
– Rebuilding forecasting discipline
– Fixing compensation plans
– Aligning sales, marketing and CS
– Saying uncomfortable things in board meetings

If you’re pre product market fit, a CRO won’t save you.

If your founder led sales motion isn’t documented, they’ll struggle.

If you want growth without structural change, you’ll clash.

The right first CRO is an operator.

Commercially sharp. Financially literate. Politically mature.
And founders need to be ready to let go.... properly.

Because once you hire a real CRO, revenue becomes a system.
Not a personality.

So founder, what stage were you at when you hired your first CRO?

“We want someone with a black book”


Do you? Or do you want someone who can actually sell?

The mythical black book gets mentioned on so many briefs.

As if revenue is sitting in someone’s phone, ready to transfer companies.

It isn’t.

Relationships are built in context.
💥 With a product.
💥 With a brand.
💥 With timing, budget and internal politics aligned.

Buyers don’t “move” because a salesperson changes email signature.

And if they do… I’d question how strong that relationship really was.

What you should be asking is:
✅ Can you build trust from zero?
✅ Can you open doors without history?
✅ Can you create demand — not just inherit it?

A black book is comforting. But capability is scalable.

Are we overvaluing network and undervaluing skill in hiring?

Interview etiquette: 3 mistakes that will kill your chances



1️⃣ Cancel last minute… then ghost the reschedule.

Life happens. Things genuinely go wrong.

If you cancel a first interview for something out of your control and ask to rearrange, fair enough.
But confirming the second date with “I’m good to go” and then not turning up?

That doesn’t just look bad. It tells a recruiter and a business exactly how you manage commitments.

And yes you will likely lose the opportunity to work with that company again.

Reputation travels faster than you think.

2️⃣ Turn up late.

You knew the time. You likely knew it days in advance.
Plan your day.
If “time management” is on your CV, PLEASE demonstrate it.

Treat an interview like a client meeting. Would you show up late to that?

I didn’t think so....

3️⃣ Obsess over previous relationships.

It’s fine to explain why you’re leaving.
It’s not okay to spend 15 minutes detailing why you didn’t like your previous line manager.

Your experience is subjective. Not everyone in that organisation shares your view.

Criticism without accountability doesn’t land well. Reflection does.

Interviews in 2026 aren’t just about skills.
✅ They’re about judgement.
✅ Professionalism.
✅ Self awareness.

And those are noticed long before an offer is made.
