I help people with the copyediting and proofreading they need to polish and refine their writing. I bring to the table 40+ years as an information publisher, writer, editor, and proofreader. 

During my years in the field, I founded, built, and sold a specialty publishing business, Personnel Policy Service, Inc., focusing on employment law compliance.  
. 
We developed and kept up-to-date a comprehensive 800-page manual (print and digital) of model human resources policies. Each of the 60+ policy models was meticulously annotated for management insights and rationale plus all the laws, regulations, and court cases impacting the policy. 

In addition, we had an 8-page monthly newsletter and a weekly ezine. 

We were the leading experts in the practical day-to-day impact of complicated employment laws like the ADA, FMLA, and FLSA. Our guiding focus was to provide simple explanations to business owners, HR professionals, and lawyers on timely and difficult issues such as harassment, discipline, leaves of absence, and working from home (even before the pandemic).   

Our subscribers ranged in size from small businesses to industry giants like Monsanto and Cisco. 

In building the business, I gained extensive publishing, editing, and proofreading knowledge and experience by actively participating in the Specialized Publishing Industry Association (SIPA) programs in Washington. I served on its Board of Directors for eight years.

More recently, I sold our publishing assets to BLR/Simplify Compliance and then took time off to enjoy travel and devote time to local volunteer interests. 

However, I quickly realized how much I missed the writing and publishing world, and I am now helping others perfect their writing skills. So, if you’re looking for an experienced copyeditor and proofreader, I’m ready to help!

I have been a published writer since 1965. In 2020 I created BookWritersPublishing to help good writers get published too. I author books of my own and as a ghost writer and editor for others. I am available to write copy and or books. I like writing biographies of successful and interesting people or businesses. I am capable of writing as an expert in almost any field due to my research acumen.

In 2004 I founded the 501c3 Patriotic Hearts. It was the result of a US Marine knocking on my door and asking if I had any chores he could do to earn enough to pay his young family’s utility bill. That inspired me to create a free local One Day/ Off Duty job board for residents and businesses to employ them temporarily to assist with any chores around their homes, yards, and businesses, HirePatriots.com. That site also provides a worldwide job board for the employment of US Veterans and their spouses. In addition, we began hosting multiple large job fairs on San Diego military bases. And in 2017 we began a business startup program for US Veterans, US Military Maintenance/ US Military Clean. (US Veterans who own businesses employ other US Veterans.) We have locations in 42 states, so far. 
Our employment efforts have resulted in many thousands of US Military, Veterans, and their spouses being employed. Our efforts have received prestigious awards, including medals from US Presidents, National TV News exposure, being featured in People Magazine, and San Diego’s “Visionary Award” for stimulating its local economies. 
Too, in 2011 when we learn that US Marine combat veterans had a “90% divorce rate from Private to Sergeant,” we began hosting free, 3 -day Military Marriage Retreats at a 4-star hotel in Oceanside Harbor, across from Camp Pendleton Marine Base. This has saved dozens of marriages and families. 
Patriotic Hearts has several other programs to assist US veterans and the employers that hire them too. 
In order to engage as many US Veterans, Employers, and US Citizens as is possible that support them, we create fresh content daily, posts, articles, and videos. Our goal is to elevate the lives of as many people as possible. Our efforts and endeavors are unending. – Mark Baird
